We love Charlie. But we want Adam and Ian to get married. What will happen in Ambridge in the pre-Christmas thread?

Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

OP posts:
Minimammoth · 23/12/2015 14:35

I really don't get the Charlie Adam thing, unless they have been being closer than we have been hearing. Overdramatised I think.
I am passing the crystal ball back to bore cos I haven't a clue. I will occasionally scry in the odd pale of water.
Predictions for 2016 anyone? Lillian and Justin, Ruth David divorce. Joe snuffs it. Phoebe goes to Oxford.
No idea who I would be, I suspect I live in Borsetshire, and am definitely an incomer.
Beef for Christmas din.

Stickerrocks · 23/12/2015 15:53

Henry is going to get over-excited and Knob is going to snarl at him in front of Hellin, but nobody else will be there to overhear.

Gammon tomorrow & chicken for Christmas Day here. Apparently it's a tradition in our house (according to DD) and woe betide anyone who suggests having beef instead.

JessieMcJessie · 23/12/2015 15:55

sian Phillip/Jean Harvey won't speak in TA, only in the play. That's what they did with Julian Rhind- Tutt last year.

Dipankrispaneven · 23/12/2015 16:27

Do they have form for scripting big crises in the Christmas Day episode? I'd have thought they may leave the ambulance for the 65th anniversary episode.

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 16:39

To those who think goose will be horribly greasy - you have to spoon the fat off at regular intervals (and use it to make the most brilliant roast potatoes to go with!), and the meat is delicious, particularly with prune, apricot, apple and port stuffing one end and sausage, sage and chestnut stuffing the other, served with braised red cabbage and apple (not a sprout in sight) and bread and cranberry sauces - fabulous!

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 16:40

Feck, I must be Jill!

Minimammoth · 23/12/2015 17:05

Arghahahah. dumdedum

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/12/2015 17:57

Isn't Justin married?

I think Hellin will have the baby and be unable to cope (with Knob). I think Matthew will get Berrow job and marry Peep.

Adam and Ian will divorce (love Masterchef idea)
Debbie will cop off with Charlie.
Kate's business will be a surprise hit.

Bfield diversify into somekind of petting farm/day out venue. Ruth will return in about March.

toldmywrath · 23/12/2015 18:01

Hello long time no post, but I'm listening almost daily in the Christmas week.

toldmywrath · 23/12/2015 18:24

Just caught up with the thread. I like Seeks post" What an unforgivably awful cow Pat has become!" I think cow Pat should be her new name.

toldmywrath · 23/12/2015 18:24

I mean Pat's new name not Seek's Wink

Mandolinoparadiso · 23/12/2015 18:56

Just discovered this thread...

  1. Have been listening for more than 30 years, probably closer to 40.
  2. I'd like to think that I'm Debbie IRL, but probably closer to Kate.
  3. I predict that Ruth will buy some land in NZ with the money from her mother, which has liberated her from the Archers clan.
SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 23/12/2015 18:59

I didn't even realise about 'cow pat' Blush!
It'd be a great name for her though!

EsmesBees · 23/12/2015 19:33

I've not been giving the Archers my full attention recently so must have missed something- how did Ian find out about Adam and Charlie? Felt sorry for him today.

AnnieNoMouse · 23/12/2015 19:54

Rob told him at the stag do, in the guise of "isn't it wonderful that tou have an open relationship - you do know about PWel and Charlie don't you ? It's common knowledge round the village"
Neither Adam or Charlie know that Ian knows.

EsmesBees · 23/12/2015 19:59

Thanks Annie. Rob is such a turd.

PatrickMcGinty · 23/12/2015 20:31

My three things are:

  1. Grandmother and mother listened, so I've been listening all my life - almost as long as TAs been running.
  1. I've almost stopped listening now, the story lines are so ridiculously unbelievable, to say nothing of the personality transplants. I log onto here instead to see whether sanity has been restored yet.
  1. The farming/dairy finance stuff is just mad!

If I was a character, it would possibly be Shula, but just because of the horse/riding school/vet connection, I think I mostly manage to avoid the smugness. 😱

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 20:49

PatrickMcGinty - My goodness, you would be me if it were not for my character likely being Jill (as established above) rather than Shula!

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 20:53

My efforts at passing my love of The Archers and all things R4 to my family have failed dismally, to a chorus of Baaaaa, baaaa, baaaaa, Kylie (don't ask, my husband and I met when Sharon and Kylie were big, before Jaaahn's death).

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 20:57

When I got married and moved away from England, my brother arrived for our first Christmas in Geneva bearing a purple hula hoop. He looked really funny at the airport. It transpired it was a special aerial which got R4 to transmit when set up close to a transistor radio. It was only intermittent, but it still meant I got the gist of the John and Sharon story and whatever else was happening in Ambridge, pre-internet radio! Life Saver!

Dipankrispaneven · 23/12/2015 21:07

I've been catching up with yesterday's. It seems a bit mean even to suggest that Elizabeth's supposedly tough year is down to two teenagers, considering neither has opened their mouths in months - and in Lily's case, in years.

Dipankrispaneven · 23/12/2015 21:10

Prediction for next year: Charlie goes off to Perth, Knob goes to Berrow, fouls up and gets found out, Charlie is reinstated and comes back with hunky Scottish boyfriend, Adam gets jealous. With any luck Ian gets the hunky Scot in the fallout.

HumphreyCobblers · 23/12/2015 21:31

I have realised that I must be Lynda. I have pet animals on a hobby farm surrounded by real farmers who are somewhat amused at my lifestyle choices.

nippiesweetie · 23/12/2015 21:53

Could Joe's use of Firstname Lastname be related to his nonconformist (Methodist?) upbringing?

I know that Quakers routinely use Christian names only and Firstname Lastname when they are being formal because they don't use honorifics.

GypsyFl0ss · 23/12/2015 22:09

I think it's just an age thing with Joe and perhaps the writers trying to yokel him up. My family are Methodists and although there's plenty of first name- surname stuff it's more to do with trying to get across just which Jane Smith they're talking about rather than anything more serious.
