We love Charlie. But we want Adam and Ian to get married. What will happen in Ambridge in the pre-Christmas thread?

Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

So is anyone having goose this year under the influence of the fairbretheren?.

Or are most posters sticking with the Grundies?

Does Tom have sausages?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/12/2015 03:19

Fpund the thread in chat.

I see there is some speculation as to the identity of brendaandeddie based on posting style.

My guess based on posting style would be that she is Hazel Woolley on MNWink

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/12/2015 03:21

So here is a threadfiller

Based on posting style which TA character would you be?

I guess I am Joe Grundy cos I tends to muddles my words up and I like a drop of cider.

Either that or Susan because I do like a good speculate.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/12/2015 03:23

All the lurkers pleaae delurk to say which silent characyer you are, Frilly or Tilly

Dumdedumdedum · 23/12/2015 04:13

SmallLegs, we're having goose again this year because I hate turkey so have cooked my own goose every Christmas I could when I have hosted at home. When visiting the Greek in-laws, I used to be royally pissed off at having turkey not once, but twice in the space of a week (Christmas Day and New Year's Eve) Grin
So, none of this influenced by listening (or, currently, not really listening) to "The Archers". If it's any help, I can remember my mother stuffing the turkey and swearing whilst listening to "The Archers" on Christmas Eve. [where do you get the Santa emoticon from?] Aha Xmas Grin

Eastpoint · 23/12/2015 04:25

Turkey here. Sometimes we had chicken in the past, when there was just the 2 of us. This year DH is cooking as I'm delivering meals with dd for those who are housebound.

ApplesinmyPocket · 23/12/2015 06:36

I'm probably Jill. Annoyingly always talking about cake no matter what disaster's going on. In a slightly fey, ever so understanding voice.

I listened to Blythe Spirit last year too, BOOP. It was rather stranger than I was expecting. But I had newly fallen in love with TA then and was greedily gobbling up every morsel I could.

Mind you, I was hoping for a pantomime. Every year I used to think 'I'm going to start listening to the Archers this year. It has summer fetes and rehearsals of pantomimes at Christmas!' and then blow me I do start listening and Lynda decides to go off piste with BS Sad

PseudoBadger · 23/12/2015 06:39

We have chicken, a massive chicken. My DM doesn't like turkey. We used to have Capon but I think it's cruel.

PseudoBadger · 23/12/2015 06:41

Oh God. I'm probably Pip Hmm

LyndaNotLinda · 23/12/2015 07:07

We have turkey. My mother wouldn't countenance anything else.

Oh yes, what has happened to Carol? Is Eleanor Bron in panto or something? This new diva person they've rustled up to fill her part in calendar girls is all a bit odd.

Agree with all the finances being utterly ludicrous.

FernieB · 23/12/2015 07:33

Definitely turkey. DH wanted goose but out of loyalty to the Grundys I couldn't countenance it.

Gruach · 23/12/2015 07:36

Carol is very busy acting in a well received West End play. Think it's been mentioned up-thread/past thread.

I have thought about it. And come to the sad realisation that, across MN, my posting style reveals me as Kate.Xmas Blush One or two specialist subjects where I can offer knowledgeable advice based on relatively unusual experience - but total inability to resist spouting opinions on things I really know nothing about. Not enough patience to explain things thoroughly. Somewhat selective memory. Genuinely perplexed when others cannot see my point of view - since I am invariably right.

Footle · 23/12/2015 07:45

Delurking to help fill the thread.

  1. I listen with hand poised over Off switch at the mo because of Knob. Is there any reason to hope that he will explode in a puff of smoke in the very near future ?
  2. The Fairbrethren are just kind of unnecessary - I can't work up
any interest.
  1. I like Charlie and he can have Adam but please can Ian win Masterchef and shack up with someone who appreciates him ?
HTH.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/12/2015 07:56

Gruach, does Kate know anything about anything? I'd say that sounds more like Lynda.

Three things about me:

  1. My favourite character ever was Nelson Gabriel, so I'm now trying to work out how to find NelsonsWineBar to claim my free drink!
  1. I really love the way Emma increasingly sounds like Susan. That's the kind of attention to detail and long-term character development that marks TA out when it's at its best.
  1. As to which TA character I most resemble, I hope it's not Ruth or Pip or Helen or Kate, or most of the women, frankly. I'd settle for Robert Snell.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/12/2015 07:59

FernieB - Xmas Grin

Me too. I don't think I've ever had goose. Mr W0nderD0g has and says it's greasy. Whether he's right or wrong about that, I wouldn't want to serve him something he wouldn't enjoy* so turkey it is, as we all like it. If there were just the two of us, I would probably settle for a really good chicken, but a good big one. I do love the leftovers.

*Hope this doesn't make me sound like Helen

BrendaandEddie · 23/12/2015 08:00

As a newbie can old timers tell me how it goes over Xmas. Normal scheduling?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/12/2015 08:09

Yes, absolutely normal scheduling. The Christmas Day episode is normally pretty sugary. You get a bit of a service at St Stephen's complete with a recording of a church congregation singing carols (I like this) and a lot of talk about turkey and pudding. Not sure if we can be so sure of all that this year, though. Bound to be a bit subdued at Brookfield and I'm expecting a very forced air of jollity at Rob and Helen's.

FernieB · 23/12/2015 08:11

Like Lynda, I've not yet got over the disappearance of Scruff, but given the levels of teen angst in the Fernie household recently, I'm tempted to do a Ruth and escape to NZ.

Dipankrispaneven · 23/12/2015 08:12

I saw David on University Challenge. I'm afraid his team bombed.

But they'd have done even worse without him. IIRC, he seemed to be the only one answering starter questions.

Gruach · 23/12/2015 08:13

Three things about me?

I still miss Listen With Mother.

For someone without a TV I spend an inordinate amount of time on TV threads - even though (excepting Masterchef Prof. season) I probably average about an hour and a half of iplayer per week.

I could easily fill up this (and all the previous TA threads) by myself and often have to restrain myself from doing so. But it's utterly brilliant seeing what other people think as well.Flowers

NelsonsWineBar · 23/12/2015 08:13

Brenda Here the R4 schedule

Gasp Clues to the whereabouts can be found in and around Honeysuckle Cottage & my wine bar.

Dipankrispaneven · 23/12/2015 08:14

If we're restricted to female characters, I'm probably closest to Lill. I'd like to think it was Usha, except that if I were in her position I'd have told Ruth to stop being so stupid by now. In fact, I'd probably have fallen out with her irreparably already, by having that conversation at the time of the Prudhoe move-that-wasn't.

BrendaandEddie · 23/12/2015 08:18

Gah sorry. Should have done that.

BrendaandEddie · 23/12/2015 08:19

So it's all year round. Excellent

FernieB · 23/12/2015 08:21

In the interests of thread filling, three things about me:

  1. I'm from a family of TA listeners. My Nan listened from the start, my DM grew up listening and I think she still does. I only started this year properly although I must have heard it a lot as a kid.
  1. I'm a total convert to R4 and am forcing it upon my DDsWink
  1. I hate the Fairbrothers. I trust Jill completely and she doesn't like them, so that's good enough for me.

Off to have a cup of teaGrin
