We love Charlie. But we want Adam and Ian to get married. What will happen in Ambridge in the pre-Christmas thread?

Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

It was made very clearly Jess that him or being the dad was true. The fact listeners have tried hard to find implausible ways round this isn't really the sw fault (and I'm normally the first to criticise them!!)

Putthetulipsthere · 20/12/2015 11:28

Gruach, just cross posted....so that mean's Richard was referring to the paternity test when he wondered where he'd met Knob.

As has been mentioned before, no medic would ever reveal they recognised someone professionally.

JessieMcJessie · 20/12/2015 11:30

enoch Richard Locke is only coming to live in ambridge, not set up a surgery there, so no reason for Helen to become his patient.

EBearhug · 20/12/2015 12:18

Where is Richard's practice? I think Ambridge residents have had to go into Borchester since the village practice closed. Although he will no doubt be asked to look at ailing offspring and so on just because he's there.

I'very seen a GP at my local practice who was a couple of years below me at school in a town about 90 minutes away. It's a small world and all that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2015 12:42

Indeed. My mum and dad used to have a GP who was in my year at school. That was a bit odd!

When Tim Hathaway left the village and the surgery closed, half the list was transferred to Borchester and the other half to Hollerton.

enochroot · 20/12/2015 12:58

I absolutely accept that the pat test was kosher. I just think that exchange and Rob's embarrassment/desire to avoid contact was very pointed indeed.

enochroot · 20/12/2015 13:01

It could be that he simply doesn't want H socialising with an actual doctor of course. She might get some advice.

CremeBrulee · 20/12/2015 13:10

It would too far fetched for the pat test to be bogus.

But maybe Knob has a medical condition he doesn't want Hellin to know about? Diagnosed as a sociopath perhaps? Or evidence of previous perpetration of domestic abuse somewhere is his medical history?

minininipie · 20/12/2015 13:27

I'd totally forgotten that the Rob / Richard link is the paternity test. Understandable that Rob didn't want to discuss that in front of Shula (and highly implausible that Richard would insist). However I'm very disappointed, after hearing Rob's discomfort I was really hoping Richard would be the instigator of his demise.

As for Helen rushing out of the nativity, it must be as she's not eating. She's only giving Rob more reason to say she should be bedbound so I can't imagine her doing that just out of anger/upset.

I wish Helen would confide in someone. Not looking hopeful though.

And as for Ruth - ridiculous. I can't imagine anyone doing that. Is someone going to speak to her or will just hear nothing more until David says he's had an email and she's never coming back?!

Dipankrispaneven · 20/12/2015 14:30

I doubt DocLocke would know anything about Knob's medical conditions if his sole task was to take the DNA test. I've no idea how online medical records work and I suppose he just might have had access to Knob's records, but really why would a busy doctor bother to read through them all when his sole task is to take a DNA scraping from the inside of his mouth and send it off for testing?

Are we supposed to believe that none of Ruth's children have been in touch with her by email? Surely one of them would get around to mentioning that Dad's arm is in plaster and they've got someone else helping out on the farm? Mind you, at least she won't really be able to whinge again about people who don't talk to others about important decisions.

BrendaandEddie · 20/12/2015 14:42

never mind her kids - why didnt Shula go and email Fucking Ruth,
God i loathe her

iPaid · 20/12/2015 15:27

Flora - with regards the cast's pay; I'm sure I read somewhere (here?) that they get paid £300 for each episode they speak in. Or have I just made that up? Confused

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 20/12/2015 16:16

My x his mum and both my dsc go to a gp who is a lifelong family friend and also an xbf from when I was a teen. That too is odd. Especially as I know my ex, who would give Rob a good run for his money, used to go there to slag me off about how stressful it was for him that I expected him to help out with his own kids.Hmm
Because I call him {firstname} they all call him Dr {firstname} like everyone in TA saying Dr Richard just because Shula knows him.

Freeriver · 20/12/2015 17:30

I'm hoping Doc Richard recognises Knob from some past abominable event (not the DNA).
Was Ricky employed as police doctor on call out? Did Knob ever physically abuse Jess (but Jess would have mentioned that I suppose). Has Knob ever been Sectioned? Idk, surely it has to be important?
AND how do I use smilies in a post please?

Gruach · 20/12/2015 17:54

On the mobile and desktop sites you'll find them beneath the box in which you write your post. Don't know about the app.

Freeriver the problem with your suggestion of some past secret is that it goes against the nature of TA - this was brilliantly discussed by someone a few threads ago. What ought to happen is that we actually hear any significant action or event that will have some bearing on the plot. I'm in two minds even about Rob's culvert operations - though they were speculatively reported to us quite soon afterwards. But it really wouldn't be fair to the audience (imo) if the crucial thing that brings Rob down turns out to be something that has never previously been brought to our attention.

Freeriver · 20/12/2015 17:58

Thank you Gruach. I get too involved and RL considerations take over.

Gruach · 20/12/2015 18:13

I'm actually embarrassed at how seriously I take it all ...

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/12/2015 18:29

Thanks to Brenda, I shall henceforth be referring to Rooth as Fucking Ruth.

Gruach Do you think they dropped the culvert storyline a bit sharpish when they realised it was contrary to that convention?

It happened off air, so to speak, because there's only Stefan's story to support it. The rest is all circumstantial - his absence rowing around, his confidence that Berrow would be OK, the sudden removal of the debris.

A single character stuffing something into a drain doesn't make for good radio.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 20/12/2015 23:52

They have firm recently for digging into things that happen off air. Rob and Jess ONS off air. Wherever Rob went on valentine's - off air.
Paul's death and anything that went on with Matt.
Carol and the demise of John.

And they have had things on air that imo they should not. Deevid's convo with Phil. The weird Heather pet death scene for two.

Gruach · 21/12/2015 02:19

Btw Joskar that was Xmas GrinXmas Grin - though possibly HWMNBN might disagree.

Actually, as other people pointed out months ago, it's weird that with all the re-building work happening in Ambridge this year there was no place for him in the story. Seems such a waste of resources.

And Matt would have been in his element ... (Isn't it strange how we ended up loving him despite his thuggish, only-gangster-in-the-village beginnings. Wonder if in years to come Rob will be a beloved character.)

ArgyMargy I can't think of any other cryptic references designed to flummox new lurkers/listeners. We haven't needed to refer to Rich-Johnny recently (and if Rob has his his way poor Johnny will be thoroughly done out of his inheritance ...)

I dunno about the culvert - tbh I'm still puzzled about the sinkhole; is that a storytelling failure or does the flood somehow explain it?

Minimammoth · 21/12/2015 08:58

Just caught up with film. My money's on Jenny inviting Charlie for xmas, and of course Ian will be working....
