Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

I think they need to bin the characters who disappear like flipping Ruth and the Italian duo. They need more younger people surely.

I harbour secret desire for the bad fairbrother.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 19/12/2015 16:45

The Italian duo??? Confused

FinestGrundyTurkey · 19/12/2015 16:46

Ohhhhh - Oliver & Caroline - sorry, I was trying to remember some Italian characters Grin

elpth · 19/12/2015 16:56

Thanks for all the explanation re Alan and Amy. I've been listening on and off since I was born on but the first story line I remember noticing was Pip being born. So I would have been vaguely listening when Amy and Alan arrived but not enough. I'd obviously subconsciously picked up that Amy was mixed race but added that to thinking Alan was black and so it made sense without me wondering why! Thanks everyone Smile

I take your point SmallLeggs but if she did run to Bridge Farm would they believe her? I think she was verging on telling Pat at the cricket match just after the rape but Pat raved about how marvellous he is and Helen kept quiet.
Now Pat's backing him up with the don't drive and get plenty of rest malarky.

CuttedUpPear · 19/12/2015 17:19

BrendaandEddie you've made it clear on other threads that you have a low opinion of this series of threads.

Now you have come here and are making personal comments in an offensive way about how we are used to doing things here.

It's not on really. This is not AIBU and there are lifelong listeners here who give the benefit of their knowledge.

I've never seen anyone be so rude on 40,000 (IIRC DDD) posts. Please don't.

Freeriver · 19/12/2015 17:50

Hellin is behaving as an emotionally and mentally abused/controlled wife does behave. It's all her fault not Knob's. How can she tell anyone else, especially as he seems like an ideal hubby to others in her family. Her self confidence is at zero, she is convinced she is inadequate and how lucky she is to be married to such a caring bloke after all.
Something unpleasant has to happen to Knob surely. Something that totally takes the wind out of his sails, pulls the carpet from under him, and all those other appropriate maxims (that I cannot recall)
I look forward to Knob's downfall with gleeful anticipation.
BTW - I am also still bitter about Nigel's passing.

PseudoBadger · 19/12/2015 17:59

Oh come on everyone, we are being a bit rude.
Let's change things, just for Brenda, who hates the programme, and the thread, and the posters.
Oh no, let's not Smile

Balls to all of you. Grin

Dipankrispaneven · 19/12/2015 18:18

Brenda, no-one is stopping you from saying "That's a good point" instead of BOOP, and no-one will object in the least if you do. But it is a basic MN principle that we don't try to police how other people express themselves.

BrendaandEddie · 19/12/2015 18:20

It's really common that abusers groom the whole family. Very. When thrown out by the victim they often get the family to Allow them back.

What I can't see is whT he gets out of it. Power I suppose but he had responsibility etc in his job before. Although saying that his abuse did increase when he cocked up his quotas

Dipankrispaneven · 19/12/2015 18:21

Isn't the whole point about emotional abuse that the victims are brought to the point whereby they can't take seemingly obvious avenues of escape? How many times do we see people on the relationship threads saying they know they should have LTB years before but he made them feel so worthless that they didn't feel they'd cope on their own? That is almost certainly the process that is happening with Helen.

PseudoBadger · 19/12/2015 18:22

Nobody puts BOOP in the corner

Even I ,who only started listening in July, do you think at Helens decline from a normal woman seems to have been very rapid indeed. Occasionally I do want to shout at it for gods sake just say no (about Christmas)

BrendaandEddie · 19/12/2015 18:25

"Do think"

BrendaandEddie · 19/12/2015 18:26

I remember when they got back from holiday Rob was really nasty (quietly) to Henry but now he seems to really love Henry -why do you never hear him making silly comments anymore? We're there a lot more egs of that?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 19/12/2015 18:33

I didn't mean that I think it is easy for H to.eacape. i just meant that when she does decide to eacape she has somewhere to go. She isn't miles from her family and they aren't abusive twunts. However if sh3 dies rum to them she will have to say Rob isn't who you think he is and he's not who I said he was. He is a nasty, controlling, manipulative, cheatimg bastard who doesn't even believe in organic farming.

BYOSnowman · 19/12/2015 19:09

But her mother has had a personality transplant - might put her off escaping there!!

Newtom has gone very quiet. And rich

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 19/12/2015 19:14

She can easily have a personality tranplanted back again. anyway Tony will will be happy to have her home and is quite happy to stand up to Nob.

FloraDiesEarly · 19/12/2015 19:15

emsie I heard that dum tee dum with Nigel. Yes, given that he left 5 years ago it does seem quite fresh still, but I suppose he did think he had a job for life and it must be difficult knowing that SOC wouldn't have killed him off.

It made me think about how the actors got paid - do they just get paid per episode they are in?

Freeriver · 19/12/2015 19:16

I am possibly insensitive - but what are peoples' thoughts about why Hellin felt the need to leave the Nativity?
Was it something someone said?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/12/2015 19:19

On my very rare lurking forays into S&B Brenda makes me laugh. I have a vague idea she is a teacher and frankly at this point in the autumn term all teachers (and all parents) are perfectly within their rights to be a bit doolally. This is my considered view. All my cards are in the post, my present-buying is not far off being done, my daughter made us a lovely stollen this week, my husband will be sorting out the tree tomorrow ready to decorate and my son is due home in 48 hours so I am feeling super mellow and full of Christmas cheer! Channelling Olivia, peace and love, folks!

Gruach · 19/12/2015 19:24

Doolally?

You've been reading The Guardian haven't you?Xmas Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/12/2015 19:39

How very dare you, Gruach! I do occasionally look at The Guardian but it's not a paper I feel very comfortable with, and never have done. Xmas Grin

Gruach · 19/12/2015 19:44

Oh ok. Was just that the Archers was mentioned in their radio of the year (or something) under the heading "The Year The Archers Went Doolally".

(Not really worth linking, very few words.)
