We love Charlie. But we want Adam and Ian to get married. What will happen in Ambridge in the pre-Christmas thread?

Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

To be fair - with the SWs having very carefully established that nothing precious had been left in the house and Ed skyping/facetiming the damage after the burglary, so they could see what state the rooms were in, it would have been verging on pointless for the Sterlings to race back because of a relatively minor break-in. There's nothing practical that couldn't be done remotely. The theft of poor Ed's cows was a far more traumatic loss.

Train journey Gruach? What train journey Confused?

I loved how Robert came to Lynda's aid last night by inventing an urgent need to discuss something. He's such a sweetheart. (Sounded exactly like the usual Robert to me.)

Gruach · 18/12/2015 12:09

Ms Bron, upon being asked how it was to join such a well established show, first used the past tense, then corrected herself, then said that one of the best things was that she got to enjoy looking at nature during the train journeys to recordings.

She then gave what seemed like a well rehearsed politician's answer about what a valuable institution TA is and how nice for the little people listening in their kitchens ... Absolutely nothing on what she thought about Carol or whether she enjoyed playing her.

It was deafening.

JessieMcJessie · 18/12/2015 12:23

Oh, I see, thanks.

I thought that I had missed an episode where Ruth had taken a train trip in NZ or something.

I never thought that she fitted in very well to be honest, either as a character or in acting style. My favourites are the ones whom you never hear or see elsewhere, who clearly just do their Archers character rather than being actors in general and probably just see it as a sort of nice part time job - Susan, Jennifer, the aforementioned Robert, Neil, Eddie etc.

AskingForAPal · 18/12/2015 12:51

I loved that too, Jessie. Just the sort of thing that loving family members do for each other

Dipankrispaneven · 18/12/2015 13:24

So does that mean Glebe Cottage could be on the market? Space for Ursula, maybe?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/12/2015 13:35

Adding two and two together and making 50 or so:

The Dower House is surely too big for Lilian now that she's on her own. She doesn't seem keen to get back to it and of course she is supposed to have money problems. Why doesn't she sell it to Justin Elliott?

She can either stay at Home Farm (in yet another holiday cottage, perhaps) or buy/rent Glebe Cottage, which is not big.

Gruach · 18/12/2015 14:06

When are James and Leonie going to realise Mungo belongs in Ambridge??

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 18/12/2015 14:50

Surely the Grundys could hot back to being tenant farmers? They already rent/use land from Oliver. The only reason they couldn't remt the house was O and C were living in it.
It's a bit implausible though that means nothing these days that they might end up owning GF but perfectly possibke that they might remt for lt future. Generates an income for O and C to pay mortgage. Sorts out issues of insurance/theft and maintenance.

Gruach · 18/12/2015 15:10

That's all very well in real life SmallLegs - but if you were the poetically inclined editor of a long running radio soap, very keen on revivifying the original, ancient stories - to the extent that you keep bringing back characters or descendants of characters long gone with varying degrees of success - wouldn't you want, more than anything, to redress a terrible wrong done to a beloved and unfortunate family? Wouldn't you want to put them, within the lifetime of the oldest member, in a better position than they could ever have dreamt of, never having to doff another cap or scrabble for money for Lady Day?

Gruach · 18/12/2015 15:13

And now I've reminded myself of Joe saying "thank you" to Ed last week.

Was just too wrenching.

Freeriver · 18/12/2015 17:24

Just popping in.

Anyone listen to "Feedback" this afternoon ?
I believe I heard mention of Knob and falling off roofs mentioned in the same sentence (just wishing on a star probably)?
Is something brewing for an Xmas disaster ?

R4 · 18/12/2015 17:54

Mr Bolton was having great fun with Ruth / Rob / ruthless / roof, falling thereoff.

is thereoff a word? 'Tis now. Expect to see it in next year's dictionary.Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/12/2015 18:03

It's a big anniversary on New Year's Day (65 years since the first broadcast). Five years since the last big landmark, which the then editor, Vanessa Whitburn, saw fit to celebrate by throwing Nigel off the roof. I'm still very, very bitter. Sad

SOC has been hinting that there may be another big event to come. No idea what it is (so I hope this isn't taken as a spoiler) but it's nice timing for them having 1st January fall on a Friday.

BYOSnowman · 18/12/2015 18:06

I don't think 65 is worth celebrating after having done it for 60. 75 is the next big one afaic! He's already given us the epic flood and potential deArchering of Brookfield. We really don't need something else 'big'

Freeriver · 18/12/2015 18:23

BYOSnowman - Myself I think every year after reaching 65 is worth celebrating (personal opinion of course).

R4 · 18/12/2015 18:24

I'm still very, very bitter.

Me too.

ItchyArmpits · 18/12/2015 18:25

Can a parallel be drawn between Ian's ramming-head-into-the-sand re: Adam's infidelities and Helen's doing a similar thing with the early signs of Knob's knobness? (if that makes sense Xmas Confused

Maybe something Helen and Ian will be able to bond over when they reconcile in 2027

NorthernLurker · 18/12/2015 19:13

Maybe Dr Locke will spot the domestic abuse?

NorthernLurker · 18/12/2015 19:16

If I was married to Ruth and she had declared unilaterally that she would be away from me and our kids at Christmas I think I would be telling her to stay in fecking New Zealand and never bother coming back.

LyndaNotLinda · 18/12/2015 19:18

Oh FFS that is ridiculous! There is no way that Ruth would stay in NZ over Xmas.

I'd be emailing her divorce papers too

Toomuchtea · 18/12/2015 19:19

I would not be impressed either - and it doesn't sound as if she's been busy keeping in touch with Pip.

Toomuchtea · 18/12/2015 19:20

What was it that upset Helen at the nativity? Was it the thought of her terrible situation stretching on and on and on, brought on by Shula saying it didn't seem long since Dan had been in the nativity? Or something like that... sounds even less likely when I write it down.

ItchyArmpits · 18/12/2015 19:22

Did Doc Locke recognise Rob from the paternity test?

Ruth's behaviour is unreal... in so many different senses.

Helenluvsrob · 18/12/2015 19:23

Dr Locke ...... My saviour or too busy shagging st Shula to notice ? You decide!
