We love Charlie. But we want Adam and Ian to get married. What will happen in Ambridge in the pre-Christmas thread?

Just listened to Friday - we are 2 weeks from Christmas and David didn't even ask whether Ruth will be back by then?

I never listen live 'on purpose'. Occasionally I am listening at 7 accidentally, but I am usually a podcast girl, who listens to the film for a Tweetalong. Last night though, I was there, waiting for fireworks.

Very impressed with poor Ian and his quiet rage. He's going to blank Helen now, isn't he? Not impressed with Jenny Darling's CONSTANT gushing over Rob.

Stickerrocks · 15/12/2015 19:14

Oh Joe, you're putting in a storming performance with those city boys tonight. Go for it!

TopOfTheCliff · 15/12/2015 19:19

He is being a fool. They are offering something that would be helpful to the Grundys and he is refusing without listening.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 15/12/2015 20:35

Fool is a bit harsh!

He was very resistant to Oliver for years after he bought Grange Farm, as if he was personally responsible for the Grundys being evicted. He's very set in his ways, old Joe, but he does come round given time (& experience)

Anyway Clarrie was there & she is much more pragmatic Smile

Stickerrocks · 15/12/2015 20:49

He may not be using his common sense, but he's in classic Joe mode. Nothing like a bit of Grundy grumbling to lighten things up, especially now that David's going into decline.

Dipankrispaneven · 15/12/2015 20:53

Typical Toby to dismiss Peep as a prick-teaser just because she's not impressed by his charms.

R4 · 15/12/2015 21:10

Oh dear. When Ruth finally does come back and demands a New Start, which includes being consulted on everything, the first thing David is going to consult her on will be 'getting rid of your beloved herd'. She won't be best pleased.

Have been pondering Jennydarling's reaction to Knob all day. How is it she can remember in detail Adam's affair with Pavel - and recount it to Knob - yet not have her memory jogged about that other migrant worker she and David tracked down who named Knob as the culvert blocker. Her selective amnesia doesn't make sense. This is the woman who was shaping up to be the next Hetty Wainthrop investigating the death of John Tregorran how can she just drop Stefan's accusation of Knob's involvement and not want to investigate it further? How can she not want to follow up Stefan's disappearance? Why isn't she pressing her new favourite Charlie on the matter or even Justin for that matter? I could just about believe that she might have had no further contact with Knob and so let it slip from her mind, but not that she should be gushing all over him and spiking the beans on Adam's darkest secrets. It's really annoying me (can you tell??)

Zippy from Rainbow Jill did some great cooing over Josh's Christmas present tonight. Wonder what she'll get him!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/12/2015 23:40

I loved Jill's reaction tonight.

'We're losing money hand over fist, Mum. We might have to sell off the herd that was Dad's prize and joy.'

'Oh dear! You need a nice cup of tea! I'll go and put the kettle on! I think there's some coffee and walnut cake left!'

You could say anything to Jill and that would be the response.

'Oh Mum, it was just on the radio - World War 3 has been declared and Russian warheads have been fired on Washington.'

'Oh dear! You need a nice cup of tea! I'll go and put the kettle on! I think there's some coffee and walnut cake left, or I suppose there's no point in keeping the Christmas cake now!'

enochroot · 15/12/2015 23:56

My thoughts exactly, Lillian.
JD also knew how desperate Jess was to make a life in Ambridge with Rob. She and David went to the caff to meet Stefan because she was on that flood committee we hear nothing about anymore.

NotdeadyetBOING · 15/12/2015 23:59

Must say, I find the whole Jill cooing over her precious David rather grim. How old is he - 14? What with the suffocating Mummy behaviour from her and the somewhat suspect vibe between Deevid and Pip, it feels as if the family dynamics are distinctly skew-whiff.

iPaid · 16/12/2015 00:10

I don't think there's anything weird about the relationship between David and his mother or his daughter.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 16/12/2015 01:32

I don't think it weird either.

Trying to recall- JD and DA did not say to Charlie that Rob specifically had been implicated did they?
But did Stefan mention Rob by name when talking to D and JD?

And did Knob know

  1. Stefan saw him?
  2. Stefan talked to D and JD?

And if he did know, how did he know?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 16/12/2015 01:34

Also were the initial interviews at Berrow into culvert issue with unknown (to Charlie at least) culprit, Were those interviews not conducted by Knob himself at Xharlie's behest?

Joskar · 16/12/2015 07:17

Woo hoo, Joe! Stick it up your parson's nose!

BYOSnowman · 16/12/2015 07:18

Jd an David were told it was knob

JeffyJeffington · 16/12/2015 07:55

Of course, i meant george from rainbow Blush

FernieB · 16/12/2015 07:57

In defence of Jill, there's not much that doesn't seem better after tea and cakeWink. And I'm sure her cakes are fantastic. I hope Pip does get together with Matthew. From a practical farming perspective he's a much better prospect than the slimy Fairbrothers and he could turn the herd around and back into profit. I may be slightly over invested in the farm.

Imbroglio · 16/12/2015 07:59

I suppose JD thought Charlie had investigated, found the testimony wanting and sacked Stephan - hence his disappearance.

I don't think Jenny thinks very much about other people, and David has just had so much else going on.

ArgyMargy · 16/12/2015 08:06

Deevid could sell the herd while Rooth is still in NZ and not tell her as he doesn't want her to worry (or not come back). Everyone knows dairy cows make a loss unless your farm is owned by Waitrose or whatever - surely Rooth knows their days are numbered?

Loved Joe being typically Joe (BOOP point?!) rather than scared/sad.

BYOSnowman · 16/12/2015 10:00

Maybe her phone went straight to voicemail because she is on a plane, having remembered she has kids

R4 · 16/12/2015 10:44

Or maybe her phone went straight to voicemail because she was asleep.

What time of day did David phone her - if it was late (it was at the end of the episode) then it would have been next day (i.e. no longer anniversary day) in NZ.

PseudoBadger · 16/12/2015 10:47

Maybe it went straight to voicemail because she took out the sim, burnt it, chucked the phone in the bin, and is now wearing a wig - Homeland style.
