So many possibilities.... A visit from the Titcheners Snr? Baby of the wrong gender? A ruined wedding? Re-housed Grundys? RuthRex?

The way aye man was particularly inspired

enochroot · 24/11/2015 10:17

I'm neutral about Ruth as a character but I would be consumed with rage if I walked into my own kitchen to find my DH discussing his concerns about me with MIL and daughter. And I do have sympathy with her after what she has gone through lately. If someone were to ask how I felt about similar experiences I would be unable to articulate it right now.
David et al seem to have forgotten that he made a huge decision without consulting her. We thought it was odd at the time that she seemed to accept that but she really hasn't and I can't blame her especially as decisions continue to be made without her.

Lancelottie · 24/11/2015 10:19

Well, only if delightful grace includes gracefully shagging the delightful staff, lljkk...

lljkk · 24/11/2015 10:22

Do folk really have families where folk think it's outrageous to talk about other family members you love away from their presence? Confused TA wouldn't work at all if characters didn't go around gossiping about each other :).

Nobody accuses Brian A. of being irrationally hormonal by both shagging neighbour and begetting child with her... AND getting his actual wife to raise the child as her own.

Dunno, Maybe Jenny is the irrational hormonal one for going along with it.

BertrandRussell · 24/11/2015 10:55

You know, I bet nobody would mind if a woman discussed her concerns about her husband with her mother. And you are all noticing how Jill is straight batting all David's comments.....

EBearhug · 24/11/2015 11:36

I would be annoyed to overhear people talking about me. But also, I think it's an entirely normal thing to do, talk over concerns about family members. Rational thoughts don't always match emotional ones, though, and if you're already feeling that everyone is shutting you out, you're more likely to interpret such a conversation as plotting against you rather than concern about you.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 24/11/2015 11:43

YY Bertrand Jill is behaving impeccably as you say re deadbatting David.

I wouldn't expect not to be talked/whinged about - definitely not, and I am sure DH does sound off to various others!! - but in terms of coming up with a plan of action to speak to me I would expect DH to do that one-to-one, not stage an "intervention" in our relationship with various members of his family alongside him.

enochroot · 24/11/2015 13:11

That's closer to what I meant, Trevor. And Jill is entirely right when she says ask her yourself.

NotdeadyetBOING · 24/11/2015 14:04

Just LA. Hearing Knob's 'good girl' has got me spitting blood again. Not good for blood pressure….

CuttedUpPear · 24/11/2015 14:15

lljkk Yes I accused Brine of menopausal madness when he strayed from the marital bed, I'm sure others did too.

Rooth's actions are the result of her trying to find a solution to her feelings - my comments a few pages ago were that I experienced/am experiencing the same dilemma.

So I don't think any of it is sexist or unlikely. Menopause hits everyone differently, and Shula and Elizabeth are hardly blemish- free.

enochroot · 24/11/2015 14:19

Just listened. Now I know what got you all steamed up last night.

Mind you, Ruth overhearing people talking about her is better than having Pat and Rob talk about what's best for you in front of you as though you're a child.

One minute he's spending money on an unnecessary scan and the next he's turning down a job in order to continue not earning.

BYOSnowman · 24/11/2015 18:51

So can someone explain to me why joe can't move in with ed or will? Or have a proper bed in the one bedroom flat? It's all a bs sl so we can have a heartwarming turn just before Xmas

Gruach · 24/11/2015 19:07
Grin

This is fun. Nonsense but fun.

BYOSnowman · 24/11/2015 19:08

Why would Lynda think that was appropriate? Or Elizabeth? What a bunch of twats. Can you imagine if Hayley came along? And Roy's finally sorted with phoebe.

Totally ludicrous

SladeGreen · 24/11/2015 19:08

I agree, BYOS - nothing stopping them putting a bed in the living room for Joe, especially as its only meant to be "temporary." I find it sad that Clarrie could consider putting Joe in a home, especially as he coped so badly when they moved into that estate and he had to kill his beloved ferrets Sad

BYOSnowman · 24/11/2015 19:09

So. Is this where Ruth gets to say 'I told you so'

Gruach · 24/11/2015 19:13

Cannot believe Elizabeth said they've both "moved on from all that". He's getting divorced because of it!

I doubt there's room for Joe with Will, Nic and three children. How long till Ed and Emma are due to move out of Susan and Neil's house?

EsmesBees · 24/11/2015 19:13

And what about the twins who will presumably go and watch the play. How will they feel seeing their mum up there being 'married' to Roy. Ridiculous.

BYOSnowman · 24/11/2015 19:15

Soon because ed asked them to move in and they would stay at the carters

No reason why Keira and George can't share temporarily - or joe could share with George

So Kirsty is moving in with Roy - very subtle asking there

BitOutOfPractice · 24/11/2015 19:18

I told you. Roy and Kirsty sitting in a tree. K.I.S.S.I.N.G.

You have no idea how annoying it was to do that in the phone.

Gruach · 24/11/2015 19:19

Is it just me or is there some rather sharp comic timing between Roy and Elizabeth? (Despite rubbish dialogue.)

Bea · 24/11/2015 19:20

Hoorah!! A nice normal episode! No angst and drama from bloody hellin and knob!... And no ridiculous whiney ungrateful Ruth!!!
Nice to hear an episode that didn't make me want to throw something at the radio!!

Gruach · 24/11/2015 19:23

Kirsty only being able to afford a room in a house does throw a harsh light on the luxury new build and palatial wedding she and Tom were planning to bankrupt themselves for.

GruntledOne · 24/11/2015 20:07

I don't remember much about Calendar Girls, but aren't the Roy and Elizabeth characters supposed to portray the fact that they love each other and are very close prior to the husband's untimely death? Surely that'll send Fred off into another major strop? Or is he supposed to have moved on and suddenly developed adult maturity also?

AnnieNoMouse · 24/11/2015 20:33

Very clear signposting tonight that Ruth is going to shag Dave's nice kiwi farmer friend.
I predict a festive menage a trois involving Kirsty, Roy and Lizzie.
