Do you know that I was 3 months pregnant when the first thread started - DD was 2 yesterday Cake

That must also mean that Poppy Grundy's 2nd birthday has passed by unremarked upon...

I think he must be aware of her ambivalence, and that she's now very far from the glowing, romance-drenched person she was when they came back home from the wedding. He's certainly ramped up the gaslighting, and is ruthlessly exploiting her vulnerability. I don't know if it's about sadism, or control, or both.

squeaver · 22/10/2015 14:45

Yes, toomuchtea, the way he's dealing with the shop builders also reinforces Charlie's comment the other night about all the Berrow Farm workers being much happier now.

Poor Charlie.

Gruach · 22/10/2015 15:04

I'm still wondering if there's too much protesting in Rob's homophobia.

Listening again I realised why he suddenly turned on Helen about phoning the electrician. It was because she dared to speak about a decision she had made without him (sending silage to Charlie). So he had to bring her down immediately.

Scarydinosaurs · 22/10/2015 15:47

grauch I had the exact same thought and came on to post it!

He slaps her down whenever she expresses an opinion that differs from him.

RockNRollNerd · 22/10/2015 16:08

Marmalade - who were you before - I like the new name Grin!

The Rob getting PR thing is actually really bothering me, it smacks of a very long game (and therefore storyline) being set up....

Surely Pip will end up buying cows in partnership with Adam for grazing thereby solving her contribution to the never-ending Brookfield finance issues and meaning Adam isn't stuck with the goose-bothering Fairbrethren. This will also then set up a cooling off between her and whichever one is the flash one (Toby?) followed eventually by a rapprochement with Rex.

BertrandRussell · 22/10/2015 16:47

Dp didn't get a certificate when we did a parental responsibility thing for dd- that was in the days when you had to do it if you weren't married even if the father's name was on the birth certificate. He will be very jealous when I tell him Rob's going to get one!

enochroot · 22/10/2015 17:32

I live in hope that the public service role of TA will come into play and the midwife will unearth the abuse. The one they've cast is a bit too wet-sounding though.

Lynda is so anti-Berrow that I veer towards theory that poor dead Scruff has caused the botulism.

Charlie is going to suffer and either be fired or resign, convert to Adam's way of farming and go into partnership with Adam looking after some pretty cows he can love.

PseudoBadger · 22/10/2015 17:37

"Lynda is so anti-Berrow that I veer towards theory that poor dead Scruff has caused the botulism."

Lynda has engaged in accidental biological warfare?!Shock

enochroot · 22/10/2015 17:45

In a way!

I very much hope it will lead to a re-examination of the Flood Night events and so join up some dots. Hopefully Lynda will learn that sainted Rob has stuffed Scruff's body into the silage silo.

GruntledOne · 22/10/2015 17:53

If or when Rob and Helen split up, I wonder how long he would want to hang on to parental responsibility if he thought he could get out of paying maintenance by giving it up? I guess it depends on how much he values having something he can use to keep Helen under at least a degree of control.

2rebecca · 22/10/2015 17:56

He was very unkeen to have any control over Jess by being the father of her baby. If the SWs have any consistency he'll not want Henry the moment he has a new woman.

Toomuchtea · 22/10/2015 18:23

Very good point 2rebecca - when will the new woman appear? Because there will be one. He needs someone there to give him unconditional worship and Helen's no longer providing that.

enochroot · 22/10/2015 20:17

Oh!
It's the unconditional love of Helen's children that's his ultimate goal. He's going to take total control after sectioning their mother!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/10/2015 20:19

Did anybody else shriek when Joe and Eddie were discussing where to put the apostrophe in Grundys' Turkeys? IIRC Joe said 'Well, there's a lot of 'em, so I reckon it's T U R K E Y apostrophe S'. Eddie and Emma accepted this and that's now live on the website. Gibber.

I must say, I did enjoy the Grundy scenes tonight, and the graduation stuff was tolerable. I was very slightly moved by Heather's card and present from beyond the grave. I put this down to the fact that we have a graduation to attend in a couple of weeks and grandparents will be in attendance. I fully expect to be in floods when my daughter walks across the stage. Blush

Gruach · 22/10/2015 20:39

Gasp0 The Apostrophe Incident was the moment when I lost the distinction between radio and reality; I genuinely wanted to email somebody urgently to alert them to imminent major disaster.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/10/2015 20:51

I understand completely. On a slightly similar note, last year (ie in 2014 - this is important) one of our local schools had a banner on its railings saying 'Help us celebrate the centenary of our lovely Victorian buildings!' I couldn't walk past it without feeling I should alert Ofsted in case they're teaching the children that Queen Victoria lived right up to WW1. Poor old Edward VII, airbrushed out of history. Etc etc etc. What a joy I am to live with! Grin

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 22/10/2015 21:05

I am tending more to the driving Hellin to suicide than sectioning.

EBearhug · 22/10/2015 21:13

Did anybody else shriek when Joe and Eddie were discussing where to put the apostrophe in Grundys' Turkeys?

Yes.

And I reckon they deliberately put it in just to wind us up, as well.

I too would struggle with walking past that school, Gasp0e. In fact, I might well have written a letter in such a case...

BYOSnowman · 22/10/2015 21:33

The local dry cleaner specialises in leather and swede apparently

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/10/2015 21:38

Swede trousers with turnips, presumably! Grin

MarmaladeBasedProtectionRacket · 22/10/2015 21:43

Lovely present from Granny Heather but please please please can that be the last we ever hear of her???????? It's not like she was a major character like Nigel, Phil or Jack. Even the silent Freda was more involved on a day to day basis by virtue of being regularly referred to.

Thank you RockNRollNerd, I was inspired by you Wed 21-Oct-15 14:20:38 - I shamelessly stole from you as I'd been wanting to name change for a while - I have no previous marmalade based associations!

GruntledOne · 22/10/2015 21:44

I'm sure the apostrophe things was a wind-up. Much as I hate apostrophe misuse, I must admit that if I were an Archers SW I would get rather a lot of enjoyment out of enraging millions of Radio 4 listeners.

BYOSnowman · 22/10/2015 21:46

I find it a bit too 'ha ha, listen to the uneducated oafs' of the sw. Lest we forget the Grundy family are bottom of the pile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/10/2015 21:51

Yes, it was a bit like that. I'd have been happier if Joe had turned round and said 'Ent that right, David Archer?' and David had been stumped about whether it was right or not. Actually, I bet most of the Archers struggle with apostrophes. In that village, probably only Jim, Usha and Jennifer are reliable on the subject.

Gruach · 22/10/2015 22:04

Ahem ... Charlie
Adam
Phoebe
Brethren (not particularly clever but probably thoroughly well educated)
Ruairi (eventually)
Not certain about Lynda.
