Rejoice, for the Dopeys are staying in Ambridge to feast on Oedipal flapjacks. Or at least David is. Discuss The Archers here.

Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

OP posts:
LillianGish · 07/03/2015 07:08

It's the 15th - so there is a week to get back on track with real time.

mollister · 07/03/2015 07:18

Totally agree with icimoi and lilliangish. The flood story would have been ok ish had it not come after/in the middle of all the other far-fetched nonsense which strains our credulity. I never switch off the Archers but stopped listening on Wednesday. Will take deep breath and catch up on Sunday but guess no one bought it.
Loved feedback's Churchillian speech and I AM going to write in and ask if we can have some more storylines about jam or cakes to calm us all down Grin

Icimoi · 07/03/2015 07:27

I wonder if Josh and Ben will join their sister in revealing they never wanted to leave? Ruth will be even angrier if she finds she's on her own.

minkGrundy · 07/03/2015 08:55

Last time they did the time warp in TA, New Year's eve, they just skipped a few days and some things were mentioned as having happened. (Probably by Susan in the shop).

Don't they realise it's the days where nothing happens that are the important ones.

stilllearnin · 07/03/2015 08:57

byos I agree. People living in portacabins til Christmas? Protracted insurance dealings. Yeah right.

BeeInYourBonnet · 07/03/2015 09:05

I think Jennifer should invite those with flooded houses to move in with her and Brian, just to totally push him over the edge!!

ZeroFunDame · 07/03/2015 09:17

Did I dream it or did someone (David?) last night give a long list of suddenly homeless villagers?

Do portacabins just appear by magic or will there indeed be months and months of people relying on their more fortunate friends and neighbours for a roof? Would mean some more than usually complicated scriptwriting.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 09:54

If we take the bull as an example - the business will have been trashed but their living quarters may be ok. I would have thought the electrics will be buggered and it will be a big job to get it all sorted before they can move back.

Unless Kenton has been a complete doughnut and not renewed their insurance they should be pretty well covered so enabling them to at least do it up again. It just takes time.

Luckily for the archers they have a sister who lives in a massive stately home

Are the archers responsible for the bungalow?

And why was pip referring to 'great uncle jim' - I thought that was weird. Looks like jim and jazzer are homeless.
And what happened to the horses!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 07/03/2015 10:07

Great Uncle Jim because he's her aunt's father-in-law, I suppose.

Horses - there was some reference to moving them - to higher ground?

Yes, bungalow belongs to Brookfield and is being used as tied accommodation for Bert - or has he retired now?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 10:15

I call my great aunties and uncles just auntie and uncle

And jim seems a little remote to be more than jim. Just sounded like listing it all off in a way that shows family links which was weird

I guess now the emergency services are here everyone will be back to normal inside a week and the bull will bear the brunt of the public information aspect of flood aftermath

minkGrundy · 07/03/2015 10:52

Yes he did list the homeless which included Grundy's (he didn't say which grundies) the Snells, B&F.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 07/03/2015 12:36

Oh, I see what you mean, BYOS! Yes, a bit clunky, but probably a good idea to remind the less obsessed more occasional listener what the relationship is.

I wonder if some of the Grundys will end up back at Grange Farm. Smile

ZeroFunDame · 07/03/2015 12:56

Oh good heavens - of course that would be a stupendous opportunity to have two generations of Grundys returned to their true home! Would be very sensible for Caroline and Oliver to stay at GG for now and hand over Grange Farm to a select group of refugees.

jennyperru · 07/03/2015 13:10

Wow. I hadn't listened to TA this week but had recorded it and have just played it all en bloc. What a fabulous week, lots of drama and lots of storylines pushed along a bit. I can see from the thread that I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed it.

I wonder if Rob will be nasty to Helen because if she had let him see her home he wouldn't have been injured and so it's 'all her fault'. And will anyone interrupt his being hailed as a hero to say that no, actually he was a bullying shit who brought it on himself?

One thing that made me giggle was the difference in Charlie and Adam's voice levels. They were supposed to be standing next to each other but while Charlie sounded like he was just raising his voice over the noise of the water, Adam sounded like he was trying to attract the attention of someone on the next mountain.

Also disgusted with Roy. If he really wanted his family back he wouldn't be in a bedroom alone with Elizabeth. I can imagine Hayley rushing to Ambridge to check on Phoebe and realising she still has feelings for Roy only to overhear Joe cackling about "And did you see that Roy Tucker go into that bedroom with the Widow Pargetter? Arrr and when they came out she was only wearing a dressing gown. You can't tell me nothing was going on."

R4 · 07/03/2015 13:34

Can I suggest this for ThreadTitleInPerpetuity:

it's the days where nothing happens that are the important ones.

mummytime · 07/03/2015 13:56

I thought Roy and Elizabeth were in the Health club?

Bluestocking · 07/03/2015 14:35

I quite enjoyed the high drama of Soaking ATTC but I prefer episodes where human nature and character are allowed to shine - change counting, marmalade wars, Jazzer pining gallantly for Fallon.

squeaver · 07/03/2015 16:11

WHERE is Peggy?? She is one of the oldest and frailest Archers/villagers. WHY has no one mentioned her at all?

squeaver · 07/03/2015 16:12

The BBC timeline has no dates on it. I think they're just going to shift everything forward by a week because, yes, they must commemorate Mothering Sunday somehow.

jennyperru · 07/03/2015 17:16

In the health club? That would be better than scuttling off upstairs I suppose, but they were alone together and disrobing was happening -not a sensible situation for either of them.

I hope the non mention of Peggy is because everyone knew she was safe and not because she's been forgotten and something has happened to her. I don't think she's changed her will yet.

mummytime · 07/03/2015 17:53

I'm assuming Peggy is at Home farm, just as Roy thought Phoebe would be.

enochroot · 07/03/2015 18:46

I've had trouble all week knowing what day it is in RL, hence my confusion over the date of Mothering Sunday. I blame SOC's cavalier approach to TIME for this, though I have enjoyed this week's episodes.

So Ruth was away overnight a week ago but will actually get home tomorrow night? Yes?
She'll come back to find Carol installed in the house, Pip and David a tight little team, Jill cooking soup for the entire village and Josh probably also happy to stay in Ambridge, as well as Usha being probably more concerned about the state of the vicarage than about Ruth's troubles. She'll also have to hear lots of comments over the next few days about how much worse it would have been without David. I hope she'll be gracious in defeat.

I do hope Peggy survives to change her will but I have a sneaking feeling still that Rob rowed there to do her in before covering his tracks with a 'heroic' rescue at the stables.

ZeroFunDame · 07/03/2015 19:00

So Ruth was away overnight a week ago but will actually get home tomorrow night?

With the end of the film and the evening episode tomorrow making one continuous Sunday. That's how I'm assuming they'll do it. If there's another way I'll be fascinated to see how it works.

songbird · 07/03/2015 19:20

I'm going to be controversial here but I couldn't give a monkey's about the lost week. Just roll with it.....(could be the gin talking!)

Panzee · 07/03/2015 20:25

I'm with you , songbird, and no gin has passed my lips! One episode to cover a day/night would have been ridiculous. I think it's important that so many people are being heard/referred to.
