Rejoice, for the Dopeys are staying in Ambridge to feast on Oedipal flapjacks. Or at least David is. Discuss The Archers here.

Will Peggy make it to the end of this thread?

We do have flooding in our area (MNW Fr.) Grin

Icimoi · 04/03/2015 12:46

To be fair, David was trying to establish that his mother was safe. With Ruth well out of it she was more likely to be safe, unless she's still on the road, in which case she can't answer the phone anyway.

trevortrevorslattery · 04/03/2015 13:10

I thought Rob was hoping to use it as an excuse to go and shelter in the shop till all the excitement was over

songbird · 04/03/2015 13:28

Rob said there were things in the shop that people would need, but I don't believe that was really his motive. I think he was just trying to find something to do that didn't involve saving anyone. Really fucking hope he doesn't get branded a hero (sorry for swearing, but I feel very strongly about that!). Loved him being such a dick in the boat, and Shula calling him a bully. I think he purposefully fell and 'bumped his head' too. Football analogies 'taking a dive' and 'showboating' brilliantly puntastic! Very unpleasant to PC Plot as well, that was slightly surprising for some reason.

I'm also very annoyed that David hasn't checked on Pip, not because I'm worried about her, but because even if she doesn't come to harm, him abandoning her will be a stick she and Ruth will beat him with FOREVER! Especially if it looks like he was checking up on his beloved mum instead.

Lakey Hill could be very aptly named!

Hakluyt · 04/03/2015 13:33

"And I hope everyone else noticed David making frantic calls to his mother, but not his wife...!!"

Er- because his wife was 100 miles clear of the flood and his mother was in the village somewhere and he and no idea where she was? And is pushing 80? Surely even mumsnetters would think that was OK?

Don't know why he didn't ring Pip, though.......

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/03/2015 13:41

Haven't listened, so can't comment on nature of unpleasantness, but I bet Rob holds Plod entirely responsible for his horrid sab interview (poor lamb Hmm)

I also bet he is a grudge-bearer of Olympian standards!

Yes - 'pussy clutching' finished me off on the tube..

Shock
IrianofWay · 04/03/2015 14:58

Oh my lordy! Just listened. What do they think it is? Bloody Casualty! Far too much excitement and shouting. Need to sit down with a nice cup of tea....

Lilymaid · 04/03/2015 15:04

I had to listen to Tuesday's episode twice to make sense of it. I loved the saving of all those silent characters (though Freda appeared to be whimpering). Has Cathy, recently silenced, also drowned or has she made her first visit to Bridge Farm/Tony and is on high ground?
I'd like an Ordnance Survey map of Ambridge with contour lines just to check on what might be flooded.

squeaver · 04/03/2015 15:23

I have visions of the script writers pushing little models around on a big map, like generals in the war. I have to say, I think the timeline on their site is brilliant. I can't wait to see what @ThePlarchers on Twitter make of it all.

Hakluyt - I was thinking more of what Ruth's reaction would be to David, rather than whether he was in the right or not but agree it was VERY odd not to hear him trying to reach Pip.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2015 15:25

Yes, it was rather nice the way lots of 'silents' put in a bedraggled appearance, but the whimpering Freda was farcical. (the only time I can remember a good breaking of silence was Sabrina's miaowing in Puss in Boots)

JessieMcJessie · 04/03/2015 16:18

I liked it. But where were the Aldridges? Us Jenny's new kitchen at risk?

enochroot · 04/03/2015 16:34

Bridge Farm must be in danger. The clue's in the name.

My theory on Rob's attempt at shop-breaking is that he was trying to get food to take to somewhere like the church and have a good excuse to shelter there. His temper is such that he wouldn't stay and take orders from Harrison so he jumped in the boat as a way of getting out of that.

I really need a map. Please could someone post a link to one?

ppeatfruit · 04/03/2015 16:35

Didn't Dave mention that his phone had run out of charge or something?

It crossed my mind that they might 'write out' Freda after all she's not been a great contributor has she? She's obviously a few sandwiches short of a picnic Grin

enochroot · 04/03/2015 16:43

People I hope don't survive:-
Carol ........
(Only Carol)

Favoured survivors:
Scruff
The llamas
Peggy's pussy

Pip? Rob? I'm neutral. I would love to see them SOTMC but Rob would then escape the retribution and exposure he deserves, and Pip's loss would affect David so badly.

ppeatfruit · 04/03/2015 17:14

Agree about Rob he'd be a hero and that would never do even if he was deaded.

Not Carol I like Carol. Did anyone see EB in a repeat of Ab Fab recently as the mad mother of the Joanna Lumley character?

ZeroFunDame · 04/03/2015 17:16

I doubt/hope that all of NewPip's drama school training is to be squandered on a watery death.

But I was wondering how many Archers have died other than in noble old age, at home in a rocking chair, with their favourite song playing softly in the background. I think Dan, Doris and Phil all went like that didn't they? I don't remember Jack Archer's death - but he was a bad'un ... Surely there were others?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/03/2015 17:19

Well, John didn't, Zero.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/03/2015 17:19

There's a map on the timeline page and there are no photos of actors on it except one tiny little pic of Fallon beside her Tweets.

Maps designed to be wallpaper for your laptop/PC

Slideshow of illustrations (not a photo in sight!) of many key houses/locations in Ambridge

The Aldridges are safe. The BBC webpage had Jenny tweeting her concern last night but she seems to have been bumped off now by people from outside Ambridge.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/03/2015 17:20

John didn't, Zero.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/03/2015 17:21

Sorry, stupid computer is stupid.

ZeroFunDame · 04/03/2015 17:24

... I knew I was forgetting someone!

So now I have to worry about Pip?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/03/2015 17:26

Mark Hebden - car crash.

Sid's first wife, Polly - car crash.

Greg, Helen's previous partner - suicide in the shepherd's hut.

Caroline's first husband Guy - heart attack while on the phone to Caroline.

Betty Tucker - heart attack while lying on bed, IIRC.

Did George Barford die of a heart attack? Can't remember now. I think it was sudden, anyway.

Jethro Larkin, Clarrie's dad - died after a branch fell on his head. David was cutting the branch off. Clarrie is remarkably unbitter about this.

How did Julia die? That was also a bolt from the blue, following the actress's very sudden death during a recording session.

Nelson Gabriel - unexplained death in South America.

Nigel fell off a roof - does anyone else remember this? Grin

Grace Archer apparently died in a stable fire - rather before my time, but I've heard it mentioned a few times.... Grin

Travelledtheworld · 04/03/2015 17:28

Zerofundame there have been several sudden deaths over the years.
Phil Archers first wife, Grace, died in a fire, many decades ago.
Shulas first husband Mark killed in a car crash.
John Archer killed in a tractor accident
Nigel Pageter fell off the roof
Lillian's lover, Paul, died of a heart attack.
And Sid Perks , former landlord of the bull a heart attack too.

There may be others just can't remember them......

Travelledtheworld · 04/03/2015 17:29

Ooops Mimsy has beaten me to it !
