It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2015 09:22

Like say, I like them too but I'm not sure if they put newbies off from clicking. I hope I'm not coming across as ungateful to Pseudo Blush

My favourite was something like "I'm not a pleasant Tucker I'm a pheasant plucker's wife" or something like that!

BYOS I think quiches are something that we all profess to despise but all want to be in!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2015 09:23

We (my non-listening BF and I) had a long debate over dinner ast night as to whether it's best to tell Kenton before or after he's been to Oz. It's like deciding whether to chuck someone before or after their birthday when you're 17

enochroot · 25/02/2015 09:50

Edging Ruth out would be consistent with Soc's policy of getting rid of all accents that aren't RP or Mummerset but I hope D&R are going to have a little bit of a rocky time then get over it.
On reflection, Zero, I think you're right and it is all about David's roots in the land though I do think we have been cleverly wrong-footed.

To be truly David's wife Ruth has to love the land too like Jill before her. She might wake up one morning soon and discover she's relieved not to be in a state of upheaval and has gained a tidy attic.

ZeroFunDame · 25/02/2015 09:58

"They're not plucky Tuckers, they're turkey pluckers sons."?

That was brilliant. (Whose was it?)

But decidedly quiche surely.

(I like quiche and have enough faith in the brains of MN aficionados (das?) to think peeps will realise a ref to the Archers, or Ambridge will mean an Archers thread. But I hadn't fully appreciated that the end of a long thread title doesn't show up in Actives ...)

JMcJ libraries of dusty old Penguins?Shock How very dare you?Grin

My CCF is an even dustier twentieth hand Folio Soc version with the darlingest Quentin Blake water-colour illustrations. Happy to lend. (Not.)

Today's NBS resume in the Guardian. Love the references to Emma/Elphine's wedding

ZeroFunDame · 25/02/2015 10:12

Wow. How did that happen?

Thanks Lily!

R4 · 25/02/2015 10:15

plucky Tuckers was my finest hour but it cannot compare with NBS: "Ruth, whose face is cold and sour and set like the last pickled egg in a jar of vinegar on the counter of The Bull." Fantastic.

Lilymaid · 25/02/2015 10:19

I loved the Kate/Brine/Jenny conversations on last night's episode. Particularly Kate's assertion that she would earn loads of money in her development job once she had qualified from the highly rated Felpersham Uni. Yes you can earn quite a lot of money if you are an economist/policy maker, preferably with an MBA from Harvard, but I have the feeling that Kate is not quite in that league.

WipsGlitter · 25/02/2015 10:40

I thought Shula was faking it as well and the "I'll have to tell Alistair" comment as well.

Honestly if you had been making all those elaborate plans and they were suddenly scuppered... you'd be raging. And Lizzy has the PR people coming in as well. Once she realises there is no money for a useless video she might not be as happy!!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 11:01

Well, that link shows that regardless of whether we should need required reading, CCF probably is. Grin

RockNRoll - if by chance the lovely John Finnemore is one of our lurkers along with Nancy then he's very welcome to the badger tunnel for one of his Archers spoofs.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 11:03

If Kate wants to use the Bank of Mum And Dad, that's fine but Dad should draw up a contract with repayment terms.

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2015 11:45

You lot are brilliant I love this A one way tunnel for Ben (like a badger tunnel) under the new road to the other half of Cutted Up Farm

Blimey this thread is amazing!!!!!!

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2015 11:46

Aaaaah I didn't do the emphasis stars correctly I 'm soo excited!!!!

LillianGish · 25/02/2015 11:47

The CCF analogy is so absolutely clanging that it had to be intentional - which is why I almost felt embarrassed to be stating the obvious when I pointed it out immediately Jill said There have always been Starkarchers at Brookfield. Sorry if some people thought that was an obscure ref - it's not in the least bit highbrow and therefore far from it being a weird coincidence it is not at all surprising that NBS picked up on it. I would recommend anyone who hasn't read it to read it and say it it is a short, light, easy read and should be absolutely required reading for all Archers fans (I read it on that basis many, many years ago after just such a recommendation!)

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2015 11:48

It's good to hear of books that I haven't read e.g. Cold Comfort Farm it's not a problem and doesn't make us a quiche IMO!!!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 11:56

A quiche? Certainly not. We'd be Freda's steak and kidney pie, or one of JD's venison pasties.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2015 11:57

But we are a quiche, I think - we are The Archers Quiche*. Open to all who listen to or just follow TA.

*Or should that be casserole?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 12:08

Actually, I think we may soon be David's Signature Ragu for a while. My prediction is that the frosty relations will cause Jill to move in with Shula after all, Ruth will stomp around farming and refuse housewifely duties (of all types). Pip AFAIK doesn't cook (and will be aggressively farming in sympathy with Ruth in any time she's not doing college work), so they're going to be eating a lot of Dave's one dish.

ZeroFunDame · 25/02/2015 12:18

Contrary to everyone else I think Pip will throw her weight behind her Dad once it's sunk in. Don't believe they would have invested in drama-school-Pip unless she's going to be a major Ambridge player.

They did show her being partially sympathetic to David's homeland love when they were discussing plans a while ago.

Any reason why Brookfield could not harbour the alien robot invasion? If they had the money for it.

songbird · 25/02/2015 12:25

Has everyone seen this? Grin

I only found it through the Archers FB page!

ZeroFunDame · 25/02/2015 12:59

This Telegraph article is a few days old. Is it just me or has A. N Wilson missed the point on almost everything?

(And Roy wasn't a handyman and assistant he was the Manager of LL.Angry)

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 25/02/2015 13:11

Some of the archers articles are pure dross (yes you Gillian Reynolds).

Whilst I agree with some of wilsons points he has a weird way of saying it and quite a few factual inaccuracies.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 14:16

Oh well thank you for that CA. Hmm Not that we weren't predicting it...

On a brighter note, I like Usha and surely she must shortly reappear for a few chats with Ruth?

nauticant · 25/02/2015 14:21

Pip ... will be aggressively farming in sympathy with Ruth

I like this so much.
