It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

Sadly, I don't think Ruth is in line to inherit a small fortune in bog roll shares. I can't remember now whether her dad Solly was described as 'owning' or just 'running' the factory. We all know the scriptwriters have an unfortunate tendency not to be as exact as the more obsessive amongst us (e.g. me) would like. It mirrors real life, to an extent. My mum talks about somebody having a very 'good' job and implies they are indispensable at their place of work just on the grounds of the person concerned having a permanent job and wearing a suit.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/02/2015 16:32

Mimsy's right - Solly was the manager rather than the owner - it was definitely spelled out at some point

TopazRocks · 22/02/2015 18:01

Yeah, I agree that Solly being the loo paper magnate is a work of fiction Grin, created on this thread. It would be hard too to have a fictional character owning something quite obvious and high profile (for those who know Prudhoe!) as presumably there is an owner who isn't called Solly. Mind you, there is probably a manager not called Solly too.Smile

Re-Jill nor moving, I hope she hasn't dumped Phil's piano. But I wonder if Jill NOT moving into the stables will upset Alistair and so precipitate the divorce. Maybe he quite likes a decent dinner at regular intervals. Even though Shula DOES cook and keep house, it seems.

enochroot · 22/02/2015 18:37

Rob in his own way is as OCD as Helen. I wouldn't mind betting that the muddying of his hunting jacket has riled him most this week and Helen took it to be cleaned the same day. (Yet another thing on her plate.)

The cleanliness thing suits them both and they're well matched in that.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:04

Ruth is so dense.

Bluestocking · 22/02/2015 19:05

Now that is acting with a capital H for Ham.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:07

Kate is so dense.

Are we still on Thursday?

TopazRocks · 22/02/2015 19:08

That feels like the first time Ruth has been really angry? She does moaning and surprised and happy - and dopey of course! - but not angry, or have I just forgotten?

nauticant · 22/02/2015 19:09

Uh-oh! Mentioning Mum was not a good move.

minkGrundy · 22/02/2015 19:09

Oh oh incoming MIL thread

TopazRocks · 22/02/2015 19:09

It could be Sunday evening?????

Bluestocking · 22/02/2015 19:10

Oedipus Schmoedipus, what does it matter as long as he loves his old mother?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:11

So Ruth will blame Jill so Shula redecorating won't go to waste

Tempted to switch off before pip appears!!

Poor phoebe

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:14

Hayley's being there and the rain made me feel it was the same day.

Shame to lose Hayley

Ruth is such a first class sow. Dave should enter her into a conpetition.

Maybe Dave will get stuck under a cow in a ditch and they will all change their mind

Bluestocking · 22/02/2015 19:14

Where's Deeevid gone? Will he drive off a bridge? And how sickening is Jill?

minkGrundy · 22/02/2015 19:15

And the rain the endless rain...

That "yeh" from Ruth was extremely loaded.

minkGrundy · 22/02/2015 19:16

Do you think that "The Archers belong at brookfield" speech was a quote from something SOC got told in response to his plans to focus on bridge farm.

Bluestocking · 22/02/2015 19:16

I reckon Jill is sooo dead.

ZeroFunDame · 22/02/2015 19:19

Now that was glorious radio.

Was like Chekov when Jill appeared to say Pip had arrived.

And Phoebe! The equivalent of Last Tango in Halifax's two proposals in a single day. Fabulous.

A million BOOPS.

Thesuperswimmingdolphin · 22/02/2015 19:19

Very interesting Jill/Roof tenshun now. Serves Roof right tbh. She's been perfectly happy to utilise Jill's domestic skills but seemingly expected her ever to express a view about anything. Doesn't work that way.

Poor David. He's made a total pig sty of matters and everybody including his wife is going to hate on him. Hope he doesn't do anything daft.

TopazRocks · 22/02/2015 19:22

Tactless words from the Brookfield MIL: David is an Archer .....

Timeandtune · 22/02/2015 19:24

Maybe Ruth and David could go on Wanted Down Under. Imagine the guilt trip video from home that Jill would produce.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:26

If they divorce the farm will have to be sold surely?

The whole storyline has been pathetic and this end to it is pathetic because there has been too long a gap between deciding to sell and David realising he can't. The diaries etc were lame plot devices. The sw clearly think we are all thick and David even more so!

And the whole being close to heatherpet - really Ruth? Three months after it was said she couldn't cope. Bullshit.

I don't think I can deal with all the unpleasantness this is going to lead to. I listen to the archers to cheer myself up - not to get even more tense!

The phoebe scenes were very good though.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/02/2015 19:31

Tbf Jill is no more an archer than Ruth.

I think Jill's biggest mistake was being non committal for so long. She should have had harsh words with David from the start and reminded him of his fathers words

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2015 19:32

Oh, I did enjoy that!

And more than a touch of smugness from Jill there - I'm beginning to see where St Smugula gets it from.

Oooh, though - could Roof and NewPip decide to strike out on their own Oop North?
