It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

LillianGish · 20/02/2015 19:56

Sock can't possibly be expecting gratitude from diehard listeners - except in the sense that this ridiculous charade is coming to an end. No one who listens to the Archers with even half an ear (DH) could possibly have believed for a moment that David would leave.

MollieCoddler · 20/02/2015 19:57

Actually part of me is quite annoyed they won't be going as I hate new pips voice that much

KIrsty7318 · 20/02/2015 20:05

All of me is annoyed that they are not going. Still, looking on the bright side the Dopies will have spent a fortune on legal fees and surveys that they are never going to get back. Bankruptcy beckons.

enochroot · 20/02/2015 20:07

David and Jill haven't yet given a thought to how Kenton and the twisted sisters are going to react.

TopazRocks · 20/02/2015 20:31

I too remember Phil telling the family his decision. He was most emphatic because Elizabeth was in spoilt brat mode as she wanted her share. And would scream and scream till she collapsed and got carted off to hospital for a mitral valve replacement ..... But I thought it was quite naff last night to play it again. The only good bit for me was DH missing last night's episode but me seeing his smile today when he heard Phil's voice. (I managed not to tell him because I forgot!). This is the short-trousered school boy who decades ago chose Philip as his confirmation name because he liked Norman Painting's voice. Grin

I wonder if Kenton will hear the 'bad' news when he is down under or when eh gets back. At least Shula won't need her equine swimming pool if she's doing time. As for Elizabeth, will she now get her manager back? No more slurping, SWs. Please.

Now I'm off to read up on Ten Cs.

MollieCoddler · 20/02/2015 20:55

But I thought all the siblings had a share in shares and in that sense it was divided equally?!

I do remember Phil but didn't listen to the whole inheritance thing

PseudoBadger · 20/02/2015 20:56

The siblings are all going to demand their share anyway.

Hakluyt · 20/02/2015 20:59

Let's hope Ruth isn't a mumsnetter - or Jill is dead!

nauticant · 20/02/2015 21:05

I totally agree that no one with any common sense and a normal-sized ego would expect gratitude after buggering around with TA as SOC did LillianGish.

EBearhug · 20/02/2015 21:05

Just wanted you all to know I have a toy farm dating back to the 1930's. It was my fathers. Some of the figures and animals are made of lead. No way would it end up at a jumble sale.

Well, quite. It's hard enough knowing it's at my sister's, rather than mine (I've got the Lego and Meccano, though.) If one were to dispose of it, I am assuming lead-painted Britain's figures probably have some value. It was quite an eclectic farm, as it also had giraffes and elephants and so on (we had a lead-painted zoo set, too.)

And we might be in our 40s, but we never forgot we had a toy farm in the attic/cupboard.

Meanwhile, having seen EE this evening, where pretty much every family seems to have had at least one member murdered - I will be very pissed off if TA goes that way, because real life isn't like that.

Minimammoth · 20/02/2015 21:06

The whole Brookfield sale has been a preposterous storyline from the outset. Weak reasoning, Heather breaking wrist precipitated the whole thing. No thinking through of timescales, stock, quotas, educational provision. Legal outlay etc. most dissatisfactory.
But the fallout will be interesting. No doubt the Ambridge fairy will do the accounts.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 20/02/2015 21:08

Maybe Kenton and Jolene won't be able to come back as they have spent so much on their first class airfare to 'stralia.

Still so many unanswered questions:
What is the sinkhole?? What was that when they were up on lakey hill in the land rover?
What was all that seance nonsense really for?
What will happen now Ed has a bit more £ - will they be able to afford Will's proper non charity rent?

Agree with those saying helen has no backbone = she is DRIVING me up the wall too.
Am still v much enjoying it all though, and this thread which is the only place I can talk about it
V few of my RL friends have a scooby what I'm talking about.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 20/02/2015 21:12

just read the interview about Jill's tape recorder round the cow's neck Grin by the scriptwriter who wrote the original and is leaving TA

"I hope for listeners it was powerful and believable. It just shows that within the supposed constraints of a soap, there’s always room to try something different.:

Certainly beats someone in EE saying the actor's name and not the character's.
BOOP point right there.

GypsyFloss · 20/02/2015 21:32

Pseudo I agree. I think a sale might happen whether Daveed wants it or not, precipitated by his stbxwife and spendy siblings.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/02/2015 21:34

Can they force it though?

GypsyFloss · 20/02/2015 21:44

I don't know. With all the preposterous shite that's been happening anything is possible!

I'd imagine if Ruth wanted a divorce and her share of the business then yes. Not sure whether the sibs could force a sale ...it'd be at the wrath of Jill I reckon.

PseudoBadger · 20/02/2015 21:48

They could demand the shares, meaning that instead of £££££ and shiny robots the Dopeys are landed with a massive mortgage and beans on toast

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 20/02/2015 21:52

The terms of their trust were that they could only demand their share if the farm was sold.

CuttedUpPear · 20/02/2015 21:54

Was Thursday night's episode scheduled to be up against EE on purpose do you think?
Like when Grace died in the fire against what was it - the launch of ITV?

And YY to Olivia - what was the point of all that seanceing?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/02/2015 21:55

The whole point of the way it was left was to ensure Brookfield stayed in the family so Jill would crucify any of the siblings who jeopardised that and hurt her ickle favourites feelings

GypsyFloss · 20/02/2015 21:56

And the decision to sell can only be made by David and Ruth I presume? So what happens if one wants to sell and now the other doesn't? Is it a 50/50 thing or does David have a greater say as it's his family farm ? What if he wants to stay and the siblings back Ruth to sell as they want the cash?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/02/2015 22:49

This week's scripts were written by Joanna Toye, who is now going to retire (again). Olivia mentioned her interview - here's the link. She says the bit with Phil was her idea because she wrote the inheritance resolution scene it comes from. Hmmmm.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/02/2015 22:51

I'm hoping David has 51 A shares and Ruth has 49 so he can stop the sale. Is Sunday's episode going to be set on a Friday or will we still be on Thursday? Surely in real life he wouldn't put off telling Ruth for three days?

Olivia, we really do need an overinfested emoticon.

PigletJohn · 20/02/2015 23:21

So Joanna was pulled out of retirement to dig them out of a hole?

This new guy is not making a good job of it. Presumably he will soon get the chop.

Icimoi · 21/02/2015 01:47

Wasn't the whole point of going up to be near Heatherpet that she kept having falls? Since she's managed without the Dopeys round the corner for months, and has managed not to fall again, it makes the whole venture yet more pointless.
