As tribute to the best SL at the moment...

OP posts:

Be careful what you mention DFW . I notice Andrea got a mention after her absence was noted on here.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/02/2015 21:40

JD suddenly has enough real stuff in her life what with Kate, Lillian and being SAVE's own Boudicca that hopefully she's totally forgotten about that faux mystery. (which will probably turn out to have something to it after all in about two years time but I think not the dark deeds she was attributing to Carol)

CuttedUpPear · 14/02/2015 21:45

Can anyone remember the storyline with a saboteur getting beaten up a few years back?
Was it Greg, Helen's bloke, that did it then - or someone else? I can just remember wincing at the sound effects.

JuniorMint · 15/02/2015 08:26

Watching Postman Pat with DD this morning I noticed one of the women sounded like Lynda Snell, I looked it up and found that Carole Boyd, the voice of Lynda, does all the female voices on Pat plus some of the male children too! Did anyone else know this?!

ZeroFunDame · 15/02/2015 08:40

I think it's been mentioned a few times in previous threads.

(But I have not undertaken any personal research on this subject ...)

ZeroFunDame · 15/02/2015 08:57

CUP I tried looking it up and this is pretty much the first thing I found. (I've c&p as I'm not keen on linking to a site I don't know.)

"HSA news release 16th November 2003
Hunt Saboteurs Beat Living Crap out of Gamekeeper, Hunt Saboteur Assaults Horse - Fact and Fiction Blurred?
These were the headlines and mentions we attracted on the BBC and elsewhere this week. One was as a result of a press release put out by the Countryside Alliance (CA) yesterday, and reported through various outlets including the BBC and Teletext, the other was the slanderous reference to us in Radio 4's 'The Archers' after gamekeeper Greg Turner got a beating supposedly by 'a group of sabs'. The fictional element is a strong feature of both in our view."

ZeroFunDame · 15/02/2015 08:59

Hmm First post above was about Postman Pat!

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2015 09:52

Yes Juniormint Linda Snell was in other children's telly too; the poor woman was actually seen in something with 2 idiot 'comedians', I blanked the title from my memory! (I used to be a nanny\CM so watched more children's telly than I should have! Blush)

Panzee · 15/02/2015 10:05

There is an episode of Postman Pat where Mrs Goggins is holding auditions for a talent show. When two worlds collide...

Icimoi · 15/02/2015 10:12

I just picked up a bit I missed previously. Oliver was telling David they were going to hunt and said they would do their best to keep off Brookfields; David thanked him and said it would be appreciated as they're lambing.

Am I alone in thinking wtf? Why on earth should David feel grateful to the hunt for graciously agreeing to try not to sabotage his livelihood by coming onto his land? And what's with "doing their best"? Surely if a landowner doesn't want you on his land and you know that by going on his land you could cause serious damage, you don't just do your best, you make sure you keep off it?

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/02/2015 10:25

Lowfield has the Greg and Sab story - it was Jazzer that got thumped by Greg

Jazzer later got his own back

ZeroFunDame · 15/02/2015 10:33

Good Lord. That site could take up the whole of the rest of my life.Shock

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/02/2015 10:41

It's marvellous, isn't it? A real labour of love Smile

Halsall · 15/02/2015 11:39

I didn't hear Friday's ep so I've just listened to the film. I have a problem with the acting of Rob now - he's getting very pantomime-villain. All that 'plenty more where that came from!' and 'you'll be sorry!!' in the exchange with the sab was pretty OTT.

And the not-so-veiled menace (eg to Shula) is increasingly Hmm; almost every sentence is loaded with heavy significance. I picture him stalking round Ambridge with a big black cape held in front of his face, which he drops only to twirl his dastardly waxed moustache. I think he needs to rein it in a bit, acting-wise.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/02/2015 11:54

I can only think that it means he will be getting his comeuppance sooner rather than later

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2015 14:07

I suppose Oliver can't help it if a rogue hound wanders off piste IFYSWIM. icimoi e.g. even in a drag hunt the odd fox gets involved.

Icimoi · 15/02/2015 14:28

ppeatfruit, if you can't control the hounds then you don't ride near where they could do damage if they get out of control.

dairyfarmerswife · 15/02/2015 14:47

icimoi I thought the exchange between David and Oliver was just a sort of social nicety (is that the word I mean?) Oliver saying that the hunt was in the area and confirming to David that he would stay away, David acknowledging, and appreciating Oliver's conscientiousness. Given that they are trail hunting they would plan to avoid Brookfield, it isn't like the old days when they wouldn't know where a fox would run. In any case, one stray hound, or even the whole pack, isn't going to significantly upset a flock of sheep, in the way that a dog which is sheep worrying does. The mounted field, who could make a mess and cause more upset, are led by the Field Master, who should certainly know where he is welcome.

Molecule · 15/02/2015 14:58

Ici the followers are usually two or three fields behind the hounds, often more, with only the huntsman and the whippers-in closer. If the hounds get onto a particularly strong scent they sometimes do go on land they're not supposed to, which is why it can be difficult to stop them. Obviously the hunt will do its absolute upmost to make sure they are well away from any livestock, especially during lambing, and I would have thought it very unlikely that they would be having a meet anywhere near such a farm.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/02/2015 15:17

CUP I just heard you! You sounded a bit terrifying!! If I were soc I would certainly do your bidding! Grin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/02/2015 15:40

Nearly sick in my mouth at this

Icimoi · 15/02/2015 16:59

Molecule, I acknowledged above the fact that the hunt may have difficulty in controlling the hounds. But in that case the answer is not to hunt near land where there will be vulnerable livestock, isn't it? It's not as if anyone is exactly forcing people to take out a pack of excitable hounds, or to place themselves in a position where it may be difficult to control them.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2015 17:04

Thanks for that link ElephantsAndMiasmas That's hilarious, but i prefer our thread it's more thoughtful!

Molecule · 15/02/2015 17:43

Ici that's why I said I thought it very unlikely they'd be hunting anywhere near lambing ewes. The season and meets will be planned to take into account the various farming activities. The hunt send out the hunt cards to all the farmers at the beginning of the season, followed up by phone calls to make sure it's ok to go over the land and discuss if any fields need to be avoided. At least that's what happens around here, and we've never had problems with the hunt not respecting our wishes (though the followers riding three abreast done the roads are another matter.....).

Love the 50 shades.

ZeroFunDame · 15/02/2015 18:24

Is it bad that I keep glancing hopefully at the clock?
