This is too much for me now. I need to meditate.

No mummytime She 'forgot' to tell Jenny that she was having another affair. How unusual Grin.

Brine has the right ideas, he should know, it's not like he has a lily-white past is it? Kate is a chip of the old block isn't she? Someone mentioned upthread that she seems to have a problematic relation to booze too.

dairyfarmerswife · 29/01/2015 12:47

byos I think Clarrie was miraculously cheered up by Eddie dressing up as Charles Asnavour at the surprise party he threw for her (the depressing dinner was to throw her off the scent, wasn't it?)

CuttedUpPear · 29/01/2015 13:14

BYOS the scene with Carrie not knowing who she was anymore looked like a lead-in to a menopause storyline.
What a pity that one was dropped.
Of course all a menopausal woman needs to set her right is a nice little surprise party Hmm

That's right, hey Mimsy?

NelsonsWineBar · 29/01/2015 13:43

Thanks all Smile

I really should start listening again, shouldn't I?

JessieMcJessie · 29/01/2015 13:44

ppeat mummytime was asking whether Jenny knew about Kate's first affair, the one that happened when Phoebe was in South Africa. It was featured in glorious technicolour on Amex but in the main programme they also had scenes where Feebs came back all upset and Roy got Feebs to say what was bothering her. When she explained he very magnanimously told Feebs not to condemn Kate too harshly for what she had done because adult life was "complicated". Nice payback he's getting from hypoKate now.

What mummytime and I can't recall ( I asked the same question upthread) is whether Brine and JD were ever involved in those discussions and so whether they know about the first affair?

Judging by Jenny's reaction now, being so reluctant to believe that Kate could be at fault for the marriage breakup, I'd say not, because otherwise her first reaction would be to say "oh, so I suppose he wasn't really able to put your affair properly behind him after all then".

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 29/01/2015 14:24

Anyone organising a surprise party for me would get a pretty big surprise right back, Cutted, and not one they'd forget in a hurry!

We had the menopause on TA years ago with Kathy and Pat and one of the excruciating jokey storylines about a menopause cake that a man ate by mistake. Hmm

CuttedUpPear · 29/01/2015 17:38

Oh I vaguely remember now - but what on earth goes into a menopause cake?

Lilymaid · 29/01/2015 17:44

Feebs is more likely to go back to Roy's house to live than live with Kate, Poor girl stuck between rock and hard place. She would be better off staying with Brine and Jenny and their wonderful kitchen.

Think Clarrie's last birthday was her 60th wasn't it?

songbird · 29/01/2015 18:14

We didn't hear Brine and JennyDarling being told of Kate's indiscretion, just Roy.

nauticant · 29/01/2015 19:03

I'll be rather cross if the continuity announcer has over-promised just now.

nauticant · 29/01/2015 19:10

Well, that definitely wasn't an over-promise!

EBearhug · 29/01/2015 19:15

Here's a recipe for menopause cake - www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/content/articles/2007/04/27/hrt_cake_recipe.shtml It may well fit Araminta's description...

Good for Phoebe, standing up to Kate.

ZeroFunDame · 29/01/2015 19:19

Excellent episode. Deserves a BOOP.

Where are they going with this blessed milk bottle? (And how come Joe still had it - the Grundys must have had a massive clear out when they moved from Grange Farm to Meadow Rise?)

minkGrundy · 29/01/2015 19:21

If Kate came on MN I am pretty sure they'd tell her that no matter that she had an affair, Lucas has no right to stop her seiing the kids.

But I did say upthread that I thought P had been speaking to Nollie of FB and knew what had gone on.

Notice she didn't say another affair or again or after last timr or make any reference to previous affair. Odd.

LillianGish · 29/01/2015 19:21

BOOP boop a doop for tonight. I hesitate to say this, but aI think things are looking up.

enochroot · 29/01/2015 19:33

I remember you said that, Mink so it makes sense that Feebs was becoming more hostile to Kate because of info from Nollie as well as the social frivolity and drinking. She's been seething with resentment poor kid.

But how many affairs has Kate had in SA? (I never listened to Amex.)

If Kate came on MN we would be telling her she has rights but, knowing Kate as we do, would we want her to get custody?

I hope we get to hear Hayley speak! And I hope H takes her in and moves back to Ambridge. At 16 can she choose who she lives with?

enochroot · 29/01/2015 19:35

Is Justin going to turn out to be a good egg after all?

DH was nattering when he explained what his midlands roots were so please enlighten me!

minkGrundy · 29/01/2015 19:36

Knowing Kate as we do, we know she wouldn't want custody.
Just meaningful skype contact so she can talk about herself

OddFodd · 29/01/2015 19:36

Well that was rather boop-tastic! I was gripped and even shouted 'Go Phoebe!' at the radio :o

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 29/01/2015 19:51

DH was nattering when he explained what his midlands roots were

And you allow this? Shock

JE said his great-grandfather farmed in a small way in the Midlands. I'm not sure he specified Borsetshire even. That could mean an allotment in Birmingham.

I feel we might need a garland or two of BOOP points for that episode! Well done, Phoebe!

He was telling me how his friend is in hospital. It would have been churlish of me not to take some notice!! The friend is a TA addict though so would understand. Grin

OddFodd · 29/01/2015 20:02

David seemed to not have noticed that JE was planning on razing Brookfield to the ground in their conversation because he was so pleased they could stay on for 3 months.

The milkchurn has got to mean something. Then again, this is TA so quite often these things go nowhere

Icimoi · 29/01/2015 20:02

Way back I ridiculed the Dopeys for thinking Justin would let them have the use of £7.5 million of his money while they stayed at Bridge Farm. Silly me. I failed to factor in that the SWs really aren't too bothered about making any aspect of the Brookfield saga correspond to reality. Still, with any luck JE will demand a swingeing rent.

But there were a couple of interesting pointers in that episode:

  1. David sounds increasingly unhappy about the move.
  2. It was raining yet again in Ambridge. They seem to be having their very own monsoons like Somerset last year. Maybe we'll finally get some development with the sinkhole?

Well, they've got to resolve this by the completion date in March, so maybe we could finally be drawing to a conclusion.
