Any David Sedaris fans out there?

Has anyone discovered the delights of the American humorist/satirist David Sedaris?

My DBro sent me his book Squirrel seeks Chipmonk and since then I have been hooked on his wicked observational humour. And was delighted when he was given his own show on R4.

He is doing a 30 minute Christmas special on R4 in case anyone is interested. It's on Christmas Eve.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 21/12/2014 13:02

I love him. He's touring next year, you know...

Hakluyt · 21/12/2014 13:03

Me!

MyDHhasnomemory · 21/12/2014 13:04

Ooh JohnFarley, do you have a link?

ScottishDiblet · 21/12/2014 13:11

Love him! Have you heard This American Life? If you like DS chances are you will love TAL which is a podcast. I can NEVER get tickets to see him as I'm always too late to the party!

daisychain01 · 21/12/2014 13:26

Funny you should say that John...

I was wondering if anyone else is going to one of his venues in 2015.

My DP can't come with me as he is away the first week of June so I was thinking it would be nice to have a MN David Sedaris meet up Smile. My best venue is Cardiff but could possibly do a different one as long as it isn't Scotland Grin

Only because of the distance/logistics involved not because I don't live Scotland which I do

Argh, no london dates. I love him. Did anyone hear the programme about when his sister committed suicide? Tiffany I think. It was so touching and funny

Amaxapax · 21/12/2014 23:21

Just a second recommendation for TAL. They have quite a good app through which you can search for various contributors, including David Sedaris. I also really recommend David Rakoff, who frequently contributed to TAL before his death a couple of years ago.

Saying that, I don't think Sedaris is all that amazing live. Or, he can be, but much of it depends on his mood.

If you've been listening to Serial, that all started as a kind of TAL spin off, and there's a lot of contributor cross over.

Got 2 books for Xmas and love the radio programs Grin

LovelyMarchHare · 04/01/2015 21:24

I was only thinking the other day that if I was forced to go on Mastermind I'd choose 'David Sedaris' Family' as my specialist subject. Love his mum and brother 'The Rooster'.

daisychain01 · 04/01/2015 21:36

Wow, I didn't know his family is interesting as well. Thanks, I will take a sneaky peak on the web. Smile

Snappy which books did you get? I only have the squirrel meets chipmunk book. It is so clever, and so DS humour!

Eastpoint · 04/01/2015 21:58

He sometimes performs at Cadogan Hall.

CuttedUpPear · 04/01/2015 21:58

Love the shows on R4.
Listened to the Xmas one in the bath the other day, it was great.

BOFster · 04/01/2015 22:00

I love him. Thanks for the TAL app tip.

ArcheryAnnie · 04/01/2015 22:16

I went to one of the live recordings! He's just lovely.

He's got a rubbish truck named after him where he lives, in celebration of how much litter he clears up! I don't think they realised at first how famous he was.

alteredimages · 04/01/2015 22:19

I too love David Sedaris and This American Life. I read Holidays on Ice every Christmas which helps the holiday period go by much more smoothly.

Snappynewyear · 05/01/2015 10:03

I've got squirrel seeks chipmunk and 'me talk pretty one day' Smile

lalalonglegs · 05/01/2015 21:46

WHY'S HE NOT COMING TO LONDON? He's fantastic - I've loved him since I accidentally heard him on R4 talking about visiting the Anne Frank Museum and thinking it would make a really great apartment for him and Hugh.

Does anyone know where you can get his podcasts - I've got his last series saved on my youview box but want all the stuff I've missed too.

Eastpoint · 06/01/2015 04:55

Sign up for the BBC audience lists via their website, I got 2 tickets to one of his recordings last year and so did my friends.
