The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Shula did mention a 'ghastly estate' or something like that being a possible part of JE's evil plan last week. But now she's decided how she can spend her share she doesn't care any more. Hmm
I did wonder if she knows she and Al are for a divorce, as the being breadwinner thing sounded a bit too pat. It would be understandable if she didn't want to say just yet.

I used to think the Dopeys' nickname was a unfair. When it was coined first on the original ML/ BBC site. Now I can see how it fits! They seem most surprised that the sibs might not have the same emotional attachment to a farm 'oop north' as the one they grew up on.

TopazRocks · 01/12/2014 21:33

a bit unfair, I meant!

TopazRocks · 01/12/2014 21:46

I did have a wee lump in my throat with Peggy's talk. Poor Tony, I wonder if his BP shot up. I did feel a bit 'too little, too late'. I also think Peggy will shuffle off sooner than Tony, maybe before she gets around to seeing her lawyer. I hope not as Tony and Pa need the extra security of an inheritance now. I am beginning to not dislike NewTom now, but still find all the voices hard to differentiate. I was confused for a tad by Kenton and Jolene. J sounded different to me tonight. Sad

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 21:58

J sounded like a caricature tonight! Maybe it's because we are so used to the samey accents

Also, their name might be mud but the siblings will also have to live in the 'new' ambridge.

Jill and Phil were clearly rubbish parents as they raised such mercenary and unrooted children who seem to have only loyalty to themselves. But then Jill's reaction to a big decision does seem very ostrich.

PhaedraIsMyName · 01/12/2014 22:17

I want to slap Peggy. What an old witch.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 01/12/2014 22:26

god it is so restful not listening any more & just reading this thread Smile

I don't miss listening a bit

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 01/12/2014 22:29

(but obviously I need you lot to keep listening - & posting - so you're not allowed to stop, ok?)

TopazRocks · 01/12/2014 22:42

I feel some compassion for Peggy. She's an old lady who's had a dreadful shock (and she had a bad leg too - what happened to that? miraculous cure, so must have been a sprain). And she IS upset about her son. And she knows she is a old and may well shuffle off some time soon. Maybe June wotsit wants written out.

I do wonder what Tony makes of them all - the whole first weekend with Pat and his big sisters moping around him, then Tom returns and gives his 'speech', now it's his ma's turn. And then there's Hellin. GrinThe poor man. No wonder he's keeping his eyes shut.

Eastpoint · 01/12/2014 23:03

TheOne I agree - I've done over a week without listening now & this thread is so much more pleasurable. Thanks to those sacrificing their time & minds for those of us who have gone cold turkey. Flowers

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/12/2014 23:37

Musing on people dropping the broadcast but still reading the thread I came on to suggest a reference to "going cold turkey" in the next thread title.

Utterly, thoroughly, irretrievably desolate to find a quicker wit got there before me.

Selks · 01/12/2014 23:48

Zero, there were two Jacks?? I didn't know! I only know of Jack Wooley, was there another one?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2014 00:00

Peggy's first 'Jeck' was the alcoholic landlord of the Bull, and the parent of Tony, Jenny and Lillian.

Zero, someone else may have used the phrase but having it in the next thread title is genius! There's so much fowl stuff going on what with so many plots being turkeys....

minklundy · 02/12/2014 00:35

Peggy often said to Tony "just like your father" which I always thought was unforgivably mean especially as it isn't true.

Old bag.

Her sore leg got better as soon as it was no longer required as a plot device to get Hellin to Bridge Farm for the bandage.

Selks · 02/12/2014 00:35

Ah thanks, that explains it.

minklundy · 02/12/2014 00:36

not blaming Peg leg for the plot device. Just noting that plot devices often do clear up quickly. (Like Roy and Hayley et. Al)

unitarian · 02/12/2014 00:37

Another one here hoping Peggy changes her will.

In an idle moment this evening I realised that DAMARA is an anagram of
A DRAMA

CuttedUpPear · 02/12/2014 00:42

Sorry mimsy but both parties have moved on to pastures new!

JessieMcJessie · 02/12/2014 02:25

selks Peggy's first Jack was also an Archer, brother of Phil and Christine, so the uncle of David, Shula, Kenton, Elizabeth.

Interesting that history has repeated itself in the next generation down in that one brother has gone on to farm the land and the other to be landlord of the Bull.

GypsyFloss · 02/12/2014 05:58

I wonder whether the farm will end up sold to Brian after all with Kenton buying the farmhouse ? Surely if the Dopeys had told Rodways that they were going with a private offer , then the telephone auction would be off and Brian wouldn't be chasing them about it?

Kenton will buy the house , with all it's sentimental attachment and Jill and the bees will stay with him there. Shula can have her flash stables and Lizzie can do whatever she pleases...as it ever is. The Dopeys can pack their bags and slink out of town with half of what they thought they would be pocketing...to buy a shite little farm oop north...well out of my earshot Grin

CuttedUpPear · 02/12/2014 07:02

Ooh I really like the idea of Kenton buying the house at Brookfield.
He's a good 'un.

(Although I wish I'd never seen his photo, that wasn't right at all). Shock

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/12/2014 07:16

You know he's Clement Attlee's grandson, don't you?

I'm being very brave about missing out on the opportunity to work with BC, btw. No divaish behaviour towards your DP, I hope!

mummytime · 02/12/2014 07:17

I don't believe we are getting rid of the Dopeys. Even if they go "oop north" the SW may well have the "clever" plan of following them to some extent. So having "The Archers" in both the north and Ambridge, after all its cheaper than moving most of the operation to Salford.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/12/2014 07:26

I wondered that, mummytime. TA is and always has been produced in the Midlands, as well as being set there, so you might think it was free from the taint of being Londoncentric. However, I just don't see how a 12.5 minute a night format could cope with being spread between two different geographical areas. We'd have to have D&R employing local people to work on their farm, making new friends up there, employing a new vet, Jill getting involved in the local church etc etc, and I just can't see how that could possibly work alongside keeping the existing focus on Ambridge.

CateBlanket · 02/12/2014 07:29

Pseudo badger - why call Peggy a poisonous old bag? Can't you say she's a poisonous woman instead?

LuisSuarezTeeth · 02/12/2014 07:51

Brookfield does seem to be rumbling on forever. I wonder if there might be marital strife afoot - that would chop everything up nicely.
