The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

And 50% wouldn't make them inheritors. They'd have been little better than lodgers.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 10:34

I think it's a little harsh that lizzie was treated as not deserving of an inheritance because she married money. Current circumstances aren't a guide to future circumstances - as Tony's accident has shown wrt peggois will.

R4 · 01/12/2014 10:43

Peggy employed the same tactic: JD and Lillian both married money so she left her lot to Tony's children. It amused me that Pat, the feminist, didn't object to this.Hmm

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/12/2014 10:50

Elizabeth agreed, BYOS! She made a big fuss about the original plan, which was to leave everything to D&R, and told Phil that it made her feel they didn't love her as much. That's why the B share plan was put into effect.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 10:56

I know she didn't handle it in a nice way but she had a point! I think as long as the farm can stay within the willing farmers that's fine but if the asset is being disposed of then all should get a share! Although the farmers should get more as they have worked to enhance the value

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/12/2014 11:11

Yes, I agree. A lot of inheritance disputes seem to be as much about emotion as money.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 11:19

Yes - not helped by the living parent being happy to up sticks and abandon you to go far away with the golden child!!

PetulaGordino · 01/12/2014 11:21

Marking place, struggling to keep up, thanks for new thread

Apologies for any repetition of comments already made by others, but Jennifer is involved in so many plot lines the actor's head must be spinning

  • phoebe wrt Roy/hayley/elizabeth
  • BL shenanigans wrt new contract
  • road stuff with SAVE (currently too busy though) and offers on Brookfield
  • Tony accident
  • worrying about peggy re fall, Tony etc

So how on earth she has time to also get involved with sleuthing re John tregorran's death I really don't know

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 12:56

It is all about priorities petula!

Of course wasn't Jenny one of the nimbys Todd and Charlie was laughing about because she was on road duty that day?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/12/2014 14:08

Ah yes - the day that Charlie unexpectedly found himself sticking up for SAVE? Little chink in his armour...

Just chipping in to say that the SWs have always been very coy about naming sums of money, eg the exact amount of dosh from the sibling shares. On the late-lamented BBC Archers board I remember some pretty hardcore forensic accounting going on when Caroline bought Grey Gables and everyone studiously avoided mentioning figures.

I love that people take it so seriously and do the actual sums unlike the SWs most of the time

PetulaGordino · 01/12/2014 14:17

Yes it doesn't surprise me that they would want to keep the details vague as otherwise they could be painting themselves into a corner

TallGiraffes · 01/12/2014 14:46

Farm inheritances are hideously messy IME. We have good friends with two children, oldest son no interest in farming disappears off and makes a fortune. Younger daughter stays and turns struggling farm into success. Son goes bankrupt, comes back. Who inherits? It's the saddest mess imaginable because it is more than a business, it is your childhood home.

minklundy · 01/12/2014 16:48

It should be possible to work out roughly how much it is as D&R did say something like
sale of B'field is x (now 7.5m)
cost of new farm is y (was it 4m?)
that allows us to pay of siblings, buy new farm and have not overdraft (o)
so presumably siblings share is less than x-(y+o) so maybe around 1m each? so somewhere between 10 and 12%

assuming D&R intend to leave 'the family farm' to their offspring, it makes sense to remove the siblings share anyway as it stops e.g. Frilly feeling like they have been done out of their farm.

minklundy · 01/12/2014 16:50

sorry somewhere between 10 and 13ish percent (12 was conjecture on my part)

11% might have been a sensible number if I were Phil. that gives siblings 1/3 and D & R 2/3

unitarian · 01/12/2014 17:38

I too think it goes in thirds. 2/3 to David and 1/3 divided between the sibs.

4.5 million would leave David £3 million - not enough
7.5 leaves David £5 million - enough.

SixToesLeft · 01/12/2014 19:10

Why is David being such a bastard?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 19:11

Gosh jolene was gleeful

Toms acting is improving but still don't like him!!

At least we are hearing some regrets. Don't think Dave and roof will be keeping in touch much

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/12/2014 19:13

All done and dusted.

Grin Let the games commence!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 19:15

What did jack do to tony?

I know everyone hates Peggy but that made me teary. Mothers empathy I guess

PseudoBadger · 01/12/2014 19:17

Gosh I've got a tear in my eye

He was an alcoholic I think, so general neglect and a temper.

I do get Peggy saying those things now but she never have him the benefit if the doubt when he wasn't ill. I think she didn't like him cos her reminded her of his father too much.

R4 · 01/12/2014 19:19

that made me teary

You are kidding!Shock That woman is vile. She should be saying "please get better" not "they are saying you might die, don't do that."

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/12/2014 19:20

Nah. No tears here.

My DM would be ashamed if she ever had to say that she'd always loved me ...

BringYourOwnSnowman · 01/12/2014 19:21

I don't think she ever disliked him

We must all know parents who are over tough on their kids. I know loads but its generally father to son. Often mistaking it for tough love
