BitOutOfPractice, yes, we were discussing that late last night. Most odd. When characters have been re-cast before, it's almost always been because the original actor wanted to leave, was no longer available enough, was ill or had died - or of course the rare cases where a character like Lilian or Carol has been away so long that hardly anybody remembers the original voice, so they feel free to re-cast with whoever they want.

I think one of the Clarrie actors left after a disagreement but otherwise I can't think offhand of any case where the actor has simply been told 'Sorry, we want to use somebody else now'. What a kick in the teeth.

I like your list but I would miss the Brookfield Archers - the adult siblings, anyway (not Ruth! would not miss her in the slightest). Freddie shows distinct possibilities and it's not too late for Ben and Josh.

Furthermore ...

The pivotal point where O'C set out his stall was the fondant fancy débâcle. Peggy's Will; casting out all memory of Phil's Division of Spoils.

One hopes it will be a while before Brian feels the need to gather his family - but when he does it will be carnage.

Tom Sausage King just mentioned on WH. But not in Archers context.

That's the great thing with having Phoebe though - she's bessie mates with both Josh and Freddie so we wouldn't entirely lose contact with LL or Brookfield.

But my argument is that the thing everyone is fulminating over - the collective rolling over of the Brookfield massive - may well be because they want to get rid of them all with the least possible fuss and no distraction from the new focus.

No doubt New Tom will have found himself and have no interest in pigs whatsoever. He will have picked up all sorts of exciting new ideas from Canada, land of promise and innovation, and come back as some sort of whizzkid farming magnate, possibly replacing Charlie after he rides off into the sunset with Adam. O'Connor maybe decided that that slightly whiny petulant voice doesn't fit in with the new image.

Maybe Deeavid will discover that badgers aren't just protected in Prudhoe, they're encouraged, and will decide that the whole idea is a disaster?

That's who I forgot - of course - Hazel. Not an Archer but I can see O'C enjoying an ongoing feud between the children of the two Jacks. She'd be constant grit in the oyster - an opposing power in the village but no understanding of or empathy for anything that happens there.

Tom will come back having become an artist and will spend his time painting lakey hill. He will never get it quite right and will descend into madness, possibly cutting his ear off at some point.

I think Tom will come back having been converted to mega farming in Canada and he will return working for either BL or JE and on the other side of the road debate from everyone else prompting much oh Tom hand wringing from Pat and outright hostility from Moany who never liked him anyway. And hopefully a few choice comments from Jazzer.

I want more on Anthea and Lillian. more of Jazzer. and a lot less of Elizabeth and Ruth.
