Bolloxfest is imminent. Will this thread make it to the big day?

Odds on he gets pushed into the anaerobic digester!!!!!!

unitarian · 13/08/2014 10:17

Ditto to the PCSO experience. Can't remember when we last saw a PC - and they always have a radio attached to them that is very noisy but I don't suppose TA's sound engineers can bear that much realism.

Roy whiney or Roy shouty - both equally unpleasant.

Eastpoint · 13/08/2014 10:20

I thought it was really inappropriate of Roy to tell Freddie off, he is not his parent & he really shouldn't have punished him. He is not employed to look after Freddie & Lily and I'm surprised Freddie didn't challenge him, I suppose Freddie was more worried about what Lizzie would say/do.

LillianGish · 13/08/2014 10:36

He does now seem to believe he's the true born seigneur of LL rather than "just" the hired manager
I agree Zero (it probably won't surprise you to know Grin)
By the way, does anyone remember what happened to Ifty?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/08/2014 10:50

I don't think anything actually "happened" with Ifty Lil - he just faded into invisibility after Elizabeth rebuffed him. And Freddie passed the Cathedral School entrance exam so he wasn't really needed any longer and hadn't made it into the friend category. Can't even remember if he's been mentioned this year during cricket season.

But oh! Once Shula has filed her divorce papers maybe she could take up with him - given that Elizabeth "stole" Nigel from her.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2014 10:59

Let's start a BRING BACK IFTY AND EFF OFF ROY campaign he'd be brilliant for Lizzie now she 's obviously 'ready' for a bit of nookie!

IIRC Shula's tastes do not run to POC Shock

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/08/2014 11:12

You know ppeat if POC means what I think it does (not my favourite term...) I think Shula's problem was specifically with Usha - not a general thing.

They have such a long history. She was so thrown when Mark introduced Usha as his new work partner, and then aeons later she stole Usha's boyfriend. I should imagine she's spent years hoping Usha would just disappear, so it must have been a shock to find her about to become even more tightly woven into the village as the Vicar's wife. (In fact I never believed that her objection was religious - it was all about her own hard to shake off guilt and embarrassment.)

If anything I think Shula would welcome any "unconventional" adventure.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2014 11:34

I know I was trying to think of the most politically correct term (it's not easy..)

Yes I wasn't listening to TA when the thing with Mark and Usha was going on, you're probably analysing her correctly, I don't know for sure.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2014 11:36

Sorry I didn't mean to sound erm clever clogsy Grin

PetulaGordino · 13/08/2014 11:38

there was a thread about the term people of colour last week. iirc it is used in quite a lot of academic circles and isn't considered generally offensive. however, some people it is used to refer to prefer other terms, others are fine with it and use it themselves

PetulaGordino · 13/08/2014 11:39

here

PetulaGordino · 13/08/2014 12:07

is it party time on friday?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/08/2014 12:37

Think so Petula.

I'm worrying about Loxfest. So far we've heard of two bands set to appear - Qaintance Smith (as Carol pronounced them) and The Midnight Hobblers. That doesnt seem quite enoughConfused....

It also means if the imaginary band's imaginary tour bus falls into the Am Jolene and Plod will be headlining surely? Writing it down makes it worse. Oh dear.

PetulaGordino · 13/08/2014 13:23

just so long as your fretting about loxfest doesn't lead you to falling into the arms of a keen underling...

unitarian · 13/08/2014 18:34

I noticed Shula mentioned the service at St Stephens had run late. IIRC she started going there when there was a woman appointed as vicar in Ambridge. Shula's prejudices run deep.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2014 18:50

Yes Of course I'd forgotten that unitarian She's not a very liberal person for all her helping of HWMNBM! I thought that uncharacteristic of her at the time!

unitarian · 13/08/2014 19:02

I don't recall whether she had an issue with Ifty's involvement in her beloved cricket team.

CuttedUpPear · 13/08/2014 19:13

How come Roy is suddenly a member of the 3am club? (Sleb journos)

Like he knows anything about pop stars up That London.

Harumph.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/08/2014 19:17

Right. That's it. I will be Carol Tregorran one day.

And it does look as if she might be moving in for a long stay. Hope Pip had no designs on Glebe Cottage.

ppeatfruit · 13/08/2014 19:24

OMG did any else choke on their supper when the continuity announcer said we had 24 hours to expunge the image ofSusan making Neil breathless. He is luffly I heart him !!!!!!

Icimoi · 13/08/2014 23:52

I think the reason shouty Roy is particularly annoying is the sheer hypocrisy of it all. Here we have someone who forgot his marriage vows and betrayed his wife for the delights of a quick shag in a tent, and who is gagging to do it again and going all sulky and petulant when thwarted in that regard; yet he seriously thinks he's entitled to take the moral high ground against a couple if teenagers having a surreptitious smoke. He really makes me want to slap him.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 07:51

Agree Ici He's even worse if we remember his disgusting teenage years as a fascist!I dealt with my own teenagers by remembering what I was like Grin

JessieMcJessie · 14/08/2014 09:03

I think St Stephens is the name of the church in Ambridge, unitarian. Shula, IIRC attended the cathedral in Felpersham when Janet was vicar and I have a vague recollection that she went elsewhere for a while in protest at Alan marrying Usha, but she's been back in the Ambridge church "lovely service Alan" fold for a while hasn't she?

Does anyone remember (or know anyone who remembers) what sort of character Carol Tregorran was in her first incarnation? I am curious to know if her worldly-wise arty independent pensioner persona is consistent with how she was before. I was a bit surprised to hear her say that living alone was "second nature" to her already when she only buried her husband about a fortnight ago! (Though I understand that they did spend long periods apart during their marriage). She is a breath of fresh air though. I am looking forward to her palling up with Jim and Lynda.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 09:20

I was around but didn't 'listen' properly, DM would remember but she doesn't remember much in the immediate ,or even intermediate past, now. Maybe she'd be better with the real past! I'll ask her.

PetulaGordino · 14/08/2014 09:21

i could just listen to eleanor bron all day. her voice is lovely
