Bolloxfest is imminent. Will this thread make it to the big day?

I will be away for the next 10 days -feel my pain!! (tho I am looking forward to a long bath and listening to the film on my return)

PetulaGordino · 14/08/2014 09:43

is it a nice ten days away or a duty ten days away stilllearnin?

stilllearnin · 14/08/2014 09:54

feels like both somehow! two festivals and camping in between - so obv next weekend I will be pretending I am at Loxfest - if only I could get a live stream it would be perfect!! I shall be Roy/Lizzie/pc plot spotting for you all!

unitarian · 14/08/2014 10:38

Thanks, Jessie. I couldn't remember the name of the local church and her calling it St Stephens made me think she was still going elsewhere. Surely in a village you'd simply say 'The service ran over'. It seemed a bit clunky and triggered my memory of her making some sort of stand. I do recall her making a massive fuss about the woman vicar as well as being accused of racism at one time.

I like Carol too. I saw EB in The Cherry Orchard many moons ago. Doesn't Fallon have a samovar for sale? Carol should dispense tea from it to all and sundry whilst gathering all the gossip once she moves into Glebe Cottage.

PetulaGordino · 14/08/2014 10:43

do let us know if there are any wife-beating lead singers stilllearnin

R4 · 14/08/2014 10:47

Shula went elsewhere for church because of Alan's marrying Usha. It wasn't her who objected to the woman vicar - that was Peggoi.

unitarian · 14/08/2014 11:01

Ah. Memory plays tricks on me!

trevortrevorslattery · 14/08/2014 11:28

I still have 1.5 episodes to catch up on iplayer so am not reading the thread in case of spoilers... but just wanted to come and Grin Grin at the Edgely Scone Riots.. hilarious Jazzer Grin

JessieMcJessie · 14/08/2014 11:34

Ah, yes R4 I do def remember Peggy objecting to the woman vicar, have I just imagined Shula not being happy about it either? Very likely!

PseudoBadger · 14/08/2014 17:49

Carol is definitely moving in to Jill's cottage.
I'm hating the Roy thing so much that I can barely muster the energy to write much :(

OP posts:
ZeroSomeGameThingy · 14/08/2014 19:16

Ooops. Perhaps Roy could find a job in Birmingham....

Bluestocking · 14/08/2014 19:42

What a shame the SWs resorted to the lowest-common-denominator, Carry-On-film trope of the vain, silly woman coming back from a makeover looking like an absolute fright. Wouldn't it have been more interesting if Febreze of Felpersham had restored Susan to some of her pre-marriage, pre-kids lusciousness, to create a bit of a stir at Albionfest/Albionstock? Didn't Brine once have a bit of a thing for her?

I wonder if the whole "Quaintance Smith" thing is moving us slowly and inexorably towards poor, maddened Roy taking a swing at Lizzy?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 14/08/2014 19:55

Thing is.... it may be a cliche but it is exactly what Susan would do. Even if it's awful I hope the SWs will make people be nice to her.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 14/08/2014 20:42

I think the Quintance Smith thing is moving inexorably towards Morrissey turning up at Bolloxfest. That may be wishful thinking on my part, though.

The Archers team has shared Susan's colour chart on Twitter, I see.

CuttedUpPear · 14/08/2014 20:44

I'm sorry. I think I must have missed something. ..
but what is Carol FOR?
....and was she a significant character in the past, or is the whole thing a construct?

PseudoBadger · 14/08/2014 20:53

Currently she is to illustrate how badly Peggy is coping I think.

OP posts:
cheminotte · 14/08/2014 21:03

When I was listening to Roy catching Ben and Freddy having a cigarette, it reminded if a similar episode with youngsters being caught doing something stupid but being told I won't tell your parents but don't let me catch you again. Perhaps Ed and one of the Brookfield kids? Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

R4 · 14/08/2014 21:11

Is Carol to be a replacement for Peggy when she SOTMC?

PseudoBadger · 14/08/2014 21:14

Very good R4! Yes possibly.

OP posts:
CuttedUpPear · 14/08/2014 21:15

Thanks Badg and R4.
Does anyone remember Carol from Ye Olden Days?
I only go back to '92.

Bluestocking · 14/08/2014 21:20

Someone on Twitter suggested that Carol, Jill and Piggoi are going to go all Last of the Summer Wine and whoosh down Lakey Hill in a bathtub - presumably an upcycled, vintage bathtub sourced from Fallon.

LillianGish · 14/08/2014 21:20

Brian had a thing for Betty Bluestocking. Who was it on here by the way who predicted he who must not be named (I have taken note Pseudo Grin) and family relocating to Brum and are they in fact an SW?

PseudoBadger · 14/08/2014 21:21

Apparently she was in it (different actress) since the 50s

OP posts:
Primadonnagirl · 14/08/2014 21:22

Took me ages to work out SOTMC....!

Bluestocking · 14/08/2014 21:22

Of course it was Betty. I still think it was a shame to go down the "makeover with predictably hilarious consequences" route though.
