It's all about the Sons at the moment. Tom is having an identity crisis, Dan is off to Sandhurst, and poor old Adam is working his socks off.
Follow the undulating Ambridge pastures here!

I was bristling on behalf of Jazzer last night. Yet again Pat'n'Moany treat non-family appallingly - it's like Hayley all over again. Jazzer kept the pig operation going after Tom baled and what thanks did he get?
When they decided to shut down the pigs did they talk about notice period, holiday pay or redundancy? Did they heck! Only when Jazzer complained did they offer him the crumbs of some hours working at the Farm as if they were doing him a favour!
And for all Pat's mewling about losing the cows she didn't give a stuff about Jazzer's feeling on losing the pigs.
They really are despicable.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/06/2014 18:04

I suspect it may be a lack of preparedness on the part of the SWs rather than Pat and Tony being heartless. As someone pointed out a while ago they have limited time to communicate a story - and perhaps they also just didn't spend enough time before writing the script in actually investigating employment law - or ethical practice.

But yes, last night I was spluttering with outrage.

ComposHat · 03/06/2014 18:25

Yes, principles and welfare are all very well for your animals, but quite happy to treat long term employees like the shite on their shoe. They'd shame an illegal gangmaster.

R4 · 03/06/2014 18:39

But they mentioned Maurice and the fact that he would cost them redundancy. He's been kept on.

Has anyone spoken to Neil about the change in plans?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/06/2014 18:53

Okay... but they need a more concrete reason to keep Maurice in the story. Jazzer is pretty established and hangs around anyway; lodges with Jim and does the milk round - but without a defined job that brings him to Ambridge there would be no justification for Maurice remaining part of the cast.

Good point re Neil.

AngryWhoever wrote tonight's episode has absolutely no concern for my blood pressure. Three quarters of an hour later - and I'm still fuming.

Poor Helen.

(I don't care - her stupidity makes it all the sadder.)

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 03/06/2014 21:00

Good grief! He really is a scumbag, isn't he? Shock

WillieWaggledagger · 03/06/2014 22:20

I lost this thread for a while

Rob's manipulation was masterful tonight

stilllearnin · 03/06/2014 22:36

You have the glint of over-stimulation in your eye!

Shall I listen again. I missed rob being rob. Am I thick or was it in the 1st few minutes?

OddFodd · 03/06/2014 23:44

I missed it as well. DS was battering my earhole about some Lego invention or other. Much better on the repeat when I can listen in peace without interruption :o

TallGiraffe · 04/06/2014 07:06

WTAF was yesterday's afternoon play all about?! Hmm Confused

R4 · 04/06/2014 08:17

stillearin did you miss the bit where Rob made a big fuss about having to shop for and cook his own dinner. A dinner for one, note; he didn't provide for overworked exhausted Hellin bravely said he didn't mind 'fending for himself once in a while'.

R4 · 04/06/2014 08:50

This was in the same episode that we had Fagash Lil demanding a 'large white wine'.
Do you think that I could get funding to do a PhD on The use of food and drink to delineate character and to further plotlines in The Archers.Grin

RocknRollNerd · 04/06/2014 09:17

Last night's episode was great, the Archers at it's day to day best I thought - gentle advancement of a major plot done really well and then the delicious light relief of Jen and Lil with Lil in particular at her best including suggesting she should have brought more supplies due to the state of the kitchen and that if they were spending the afternoon knitting it was best done in the pub Grin.

I reckon Lil and Lynda would be the best grandmas you could have - one will be desperately kind and sympathetic and a wonderful listener when the world is against you and you hate everyone and your mum and dad hate you and you wish you'd never been born - she will hug you and make you cakes and all will be right with the world; Lil on the other hand will take you to get the second holes pierced in your ears, buy you 20/20 (or whatever teenagers drink nowadays) when you are invited to your mate's 16th birthday party and then cover for you when you have the hangover the next day!

ppeatfruit · 04/06/2014 09:48

Though RocknRoll (and maybe I'm overthinking here Grin) Have we ever heard of Jenny's knitting hobby? i was surpised actually; she doesn't enter anything knitted into the Flower show does she? You know like a little knitted cat or something (or a large knitted factory farm) Grin

I should think it easy to get funding for that subject R4 Go for it!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/06/2014 09:51

You'll need that funding to get me out of clink - if I ever bump into Rob...

PseudoBadger · 04/06/2014 09:52

Helen's way with Rob must be an affectation surely? Any normal (ah, there's the problem) person would suggest they split the steak, or that he writes a meal plan and buys the lots, or tell him to shove his fending up his fender?
She is surely gutted that he's a twat, but knows she has made her bed so she has to make the best if it. And she doesn't want to anger him.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 04/06/2014 10:08

But Hell would know what's in their fridge surely (she works in a shop selling FOOD fgs). Bit of half a dozen of one and 6 the other IMO.

R4 · 04/06/2014 10:17

Trudat pp. Especially when they have loads of non-organic sausages that need using up!

ppeatfruit · 04/06/2014 10:46

Maybe it's like a cobbler whose dcs go barefoot Grin poor little Henry, I had forgotten those sausages Grin

mummytime · 04/06/2014 11:33

Jenny used to spin her own wool from her own flock of Jacob sheep. I think she did wear it into rugs? And most people of her age could knit.

We used to knit so much in lectures you would often get a note asking if you had a spare number 7 needle (this was Chemistry). We knew how to live! And I'm younger than Jenny.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/06/2014 13:02

Didn't you have to take notes in chemistry lectures? Confused We never got legible handouts.

I was interrupted last night when trying to listen to the broadcast and then again attempting the podcast - fingers crossed for the repeat...

Lilymaid · 04/06/2014 13:19

Apart from the steak incident at the end of Tuesday's episode (where DH and I were shouting, "cut it in two you morons!"), there was a little passage when Jazzer asked Rob for work and then said how he had good references from Pat and Tony and how useful he was to them. No doubt Rob will use this to his advantage at some time in the future.
Still can't understand why Peggoi and Pat don't comment on the problem of being engaged whilst still married to someone else.

PseudoBadger · 04/06/2014 13:23

Rob was downright rude to Jazzer.

OP posts:
AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/06/2014 13:25

Another reason to hate Rob! Angry
