It's all about the Sons at the moment. Tom is having an identity crisis, Dan is off to Sandhurst, and poor old Adam is working his socks off.

Jenny - that's brilliant! Grin

Cretaceous · 02/06/2014 13:50

I predict Mary or Jane for the baby... us old Archers gimmers may think that Persephone (isn't that Lindy's goat's name???) is the height of ludicrousness, but for hip and trendy young things, Susan/Jackie/Clare would be the new Ptolemy. Grin

JennyW - oh, how exciting re your son's GCSE... hope it's a great omen!
Will inform my DC that The Archers is required listening, now they are at secondary school... Surely relevant to biology, RE and goodness knows what other subjects...

ComposHat · 02/06/2014 13:55

As for the baby's name. Well if Archers tradition is anything to go by, they'll name it after an ageing and wealthy relative who is likely to bung the family a few quid when they snuff it (Pip, Lily)

ComposHat · 02/06/2014 13:57

I was thinking something like Ptolemy or Persephone for the baby (in true MN stylee)

Ah yes, that reminds me I might swing by the baby names board as I am feeling a bit glum today and could do with a good laugh.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 14:00

Jenny I hope your DS is properly grateful for your exemplary bringing up?

Dont think anyone inferred anything uncomplimentary ppeat.

And - just by the way - hasn't Leonie already revealed she's expecting a boy? Not that there's anything wrong with Jane for a boy....

ComposHat · 02/06/2014 14:02

Ralph?

And yes it is definitely a boy!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 14:06

Compos (I really must, after this, put down the phone and address RL..) I distinctly remember Lily was given her name because Nigel said she "looks like a lily." Was a rather lovely moment.

JennyWithers · 02/06/2014 14:08

Bless him, he texted to say he way "eternally grateful" (altho it is conceivable that he was being lightly sarcastic).
I have rarely felt so vindicated in 16 years of parenting...

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 14:10

...Ralph is a distinct possibility. P'raps with the more modish 21st c pronunciation?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 02/06/2014 14:11

Did anybody else want to laugh at the Peggy/Lilian graveside conversation?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 14:12

Wow Jenny - sarcasm or not, that must have been a shockingly sweet moment.

ComposHat · 02/06/2014 14:17

zero aw I feel quite bad about that now, thinking about it money grubbing isn't Nigel's (RIP) style. Good job he didn't have to name her as a pre-teen as 'Snooty little Madam' Pargetter isn't as endearing.

I think you're right about the pronunciation. If I were a gambler and could find an eccentric bookmaker who took bets on the names given to children in the Archers (although the bookies round my way rather boringly prefer greyhounds, horses and football) I'd put a few quid on it being Rafe Bellamy.

Panzee · 02/06/2014 14:51

Caught up now. Report writing can do that!

While Lilian was snivelling over Pointless Paul by Jack's grave, I remembered that his demise was the beginning of Darrell's dull downfall... It's only June! He was still moaning at Christmas! Shock

Pointless Paul! I know a couple of those in RL Grin Panzee

Icimoi · 03/06/2014 01:21

I was thinking Peregrine or Orlando. Although they might well go all new age and opt for something like Sky or Heaven.

Or of course they could follow the Beckham precedent and go for Ambridge.

stilllearnin · 03/06/2014 06:42

They will inadvertently name the baby after one of Lindy's animals . She is great at trying to put on a polite face- it'll be priceless!!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 03/06/2014 07:57

Ooh yes, I can see Peregrine working quite well.

What are Lindypops' other grandchildren called? I forget; I know there's an Oscar. Actually, is he the only one at the moment?

SquirrelledAway · 03/06/2014 09:21

Lynda's llama is called Constanza, and the baby llama was Salieri. Think Oscar is the only grandchild at the moment?

LillianGish · 03/06/2014 09:53

I think the baby will be Robert - to be known by some diminutive thereof.

LillianGish · 03/06/2014 09:55

Can I also belatedly second Goldensands appeal to the SWs.

Sneezecakesmum · 03/06/2014 10:02

10 to 1 on Rafe!

As to the 'rooad' ....we've been threatened with a bypass ever since we moved here 23 years ago so pat and tony can relax Grin

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 03/06/2014 12:21

Call You & Yours is featuring The Archers as a hook for a phone in about wedding costs! They just did a nice little summary of the wedding-that-wasn't.

ppeatfruit · 03/06/2014 12:38

Iam listening as I post Mimsy Grin

Oh yes what was Lil doing snivelling over vile Paul?Matt maybe a bit of a wide boy but at least he's not a psycho Grin.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/06/2014 15:50

Been on a TA-less half-term holiday so just about caught up (didn't hear all the omni, but I've got the jist I think. Missed the wailing anyway, silver lining....)

Argghh - how did Rob manage to turn his dastardly plotting to get rid of Tom into a Lovely Thing? Confused

Poor old Jazzer.... not even being given time to say goodbye to the pigs properly. And PC plod coming between him and his hopes of Fallon.
