It's all about the Sons at the moment. Tom is having an identity crisis, Dan is off to Sandhurst, and poor old Adam is working his socks off.

Yes to 'oh God what now'. If I wanted that , I'd watch Corrie.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/06/2014 21:14

Impressive ranting StandsGrin

Selks · 01/06/2014 21:19

Has TA always been like this (constant new plots that are then dropped) and I've just never noticed before, or is this a new scriptwriting style?

StandsOnGoldenSands · 01/06/2014 21:24

Errrr ... Thanks Blush

R4 · 01/06/2014 21:27

I agree with Stands rant. It's such a waste of storylines to rush through them at such a rate. As I said, the road story in RL could easily take 10 years.

Talking of the road - where something threatens to rip through the Vale of Am and undo years of careful nurturing by generations of actors Archers - am I overthinking in believing that it might be a bit of a sly dig at the previous regime?

newrecruit · 01/06/2014 21:35

Ooh, I haven't been on Mumsnet for a while but delights to find this thread.

I agree about fast moving plots. Years ago, they would take months. DH and I have a running gag around how long it took Oliver and Caroline to buy Grey Gables.

Peggy is an odd character - she knows fuck all about farming and hasn't exactly been a great decision maker over the time.

Have you discussed Charlie yet and whether he will make a pass at Adam?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/06/2014 21:56

Have you discussed Charlie yet and whether he will make a pass at Adam?

Yes.

Grin
newrecruit · 01/06/2014 22:13

Will scroll back ..... Was the answer a resounding YES Grin

StandsOnGoldenSands · 01/06/2014 22:18

It's a resounding MEH from me.
Ok, enough whingeing, I'll get back into my box now.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/06/2014 23:05

"Overinfested (sic) in Ambridge's new world order? Come hang out in the pre-festival tent with Mauricey and The Cow Bridge Builders.... No Agapanthus no entry!"

(With thanks to various originators.)

Needs a bit of work....

PseudoBadger · 01/06/2014 23:18

Happy Anniversary-ish everyone!

I did think, when Alistair mentioned 'networking' to Shula that it sounded clunky - maybe, maybe a potential adulterer making up stories but could equally/more likely just be bad writing. Does anyone talk of networking in that way without a raise of the eye brows? Of course it could just be that A can't face Dan's first night back with his mother fawning over him and clucking like a mother hen, and needed an excuse on the spot.

BTW what is Alan's actor called? One of the voices on Uncle Vanya (R3 just now) sounds quite like him. I really want my bed but feel I should hear the end .....

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/06/2014 23:43

OMG yes! I also have been thinking it sounded like Alan. But too lazy to check.

Sneezecakesmum · 02/06/2014 09:09

I agree Charlie has got his eye on Adam and methinks Adam will fall!

My mum used to listen to the archers so I've grown up with it subliminally. I seem to remember tony being quite sweet and being all evangelical about his organics. He has over recent years turned into a chip on his shoulder, whine merchant.

Peggy has turned into a know it all knows nothing self righteous, gullible, smug, matriarch (definitely cashmere twin set and pearls) using her money to control her family. And don't get me started on the whining self pity (previously Adams domain)

It's about time Alastair did something naughty after having his arm up countless cows backsides Grin

ppeatfruit · 02/06/2014 09:15

Oh god i tried to reply to zero yesterday (about the names of leonie's baby) but RL got in the way. compost is correct about the reason btw.

Yes I also agree with stand's rant'; maybe post it on the Archers actual fan pages? There really doesn't need to be something dramatic going on ALL the time that's not normal. And i used to enjoy the 'everyday' feel of TA too.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 09:21

"Cowbridge - An Everyday Story of Angry Folk"?

Grin

(I do actually have things I should be doing...)

Wasn't Alan btw.

3littlefrogs · 02/06/2014 09:52

I don't really enjoy listening to it as much these days. Too many convoluted plots that never seem to go anywhere or just get conveniently forgotten. Too many loose ends. Also people seem to be having personality transplants and it all seems a bit superficial.

I get the feeling the SW haven't really done their research and it is all a bit of a free for all.

DadDadDad · 02/06/2014 11:52

Zero - possible objection is that Cowbridge is a genuine place (quite a nice little town actually in South Wales), but I can't see it causing that much confusion or upset.

R4 · 02/06/2014 11:54

I get the feeling the SW haven't really done their research

They do and they don't.Confused
They seem to know minor details like whether Ambridge is a hard- or soft-water area but then blow it by doing major plot twists based on villagers acting against their character. If it was 'a moment of madness' then I could forgive but so often it's a 'but ... ... but she would never do that'.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 12:00

DDD Seriously?Grin

's ok - was only wasting time.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/06/2014 12:01

Do they have a - ?

Cretaceous · 02/06/2014 12:40

That talk of their last Open Farm Sunday is a bit premature! It's taken about four years to get double yellow lines the end of our road.... The road could take ten years of discussion...

The Cowbridge title might bring in a whole load of new posters.

JennyWithers · 02/06/2014 13:00

I've lurked on here for months, but have to unlurk to tell you that after a lifetime of complaining about TA, DS1 went into his GCSE music exam this morning and found himself analysing 'Barwick Green'. Placing him at a significant advantage over his peers whose mothers are too cool to be Archers fans Grin

ppeatfruit · 02/06/2014 13:11

True Cretaceous The council could run out of money and impetus etc.

Sorry Zero and everyone Grin i didn't mean to infer that being on here is not interesting or valuable at all Grin After all I'm on here quite a bit when I should be recycling the rubbish or washing the floor etc,... etc I try to keep it to just after meals to justify it to myself!

SquirrelledAway · 02/06/2014 13:39

I was thinking something like Ptolemy or Persephone for the baby (in true MN stylee).
