Mike's only got one eye (or is blind in the other), hence Cyclops. I can't remember what happened.

This explains what happened to Mike.

Mike explanation

Sorry about the link fail

GrendelsMum · 06/04/2014 14:03

golly - Moike tried to torch a barn!?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/04/2014 16:17

Thanks for the link to the Fi Glover thing, I started listening the other day but got called away to do something so only heard the first 5 mins. Mumsnet gets quite a big mention!

BasketzatDawn · 06/04/2014 19:55

Another ML name that I like is Fagash for Lilian. My recollection of Mike's eye accident was something with a hook whilst working on someone's farm ?Brookfield, maybe. During harvest. I can't open the link Eastpoint posted. Am I wrong? Again!

Eastpoint · 06/04/2014 23:03

Mike was helping to hitch up a trailer on the estate & a hydraulic pipe snapped & hit him in the eye. This was in 1991 at the time of the foul Cameron Fraser. I'm sorry I can't cut & paste from the other site & the font is awkward on my phone. Essentially he got compensation & used that as a deposit on Willow Farm. He drove Betty into leaving him. Eddie stopped him torching the barn. Sorry if I missed out something important.

BasketzatDawn · 06/04/2014 23:25

Thanks, Eastpoint. That's come back to me now. M had a very bad depression after the eye/vision was lost. It seemed to go on for ages, as these things often do.

Listening to the film yesterday , Shula and Jill were talking about the wedding and how the food will be good at Cathridge Hall . Made me wonder whether the food will be the downfall of the wedding plans...either a major kitchen problem that shuts the place the week before or a mass outbreak of salmonella after the bash?

How long before Shula is able to boast about her beloved boy being commissioned as an officer?

laylalilac · 07/04/2014 08:25

I suppose there is a wedding list as Jennydarling has got them towels and Adam has bought a bin.Shame Kirsty is not on MN -she could have found a nice little poem to put on the invites and asked for cash instead Smile

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 07/04/2014 09:43

A bin? Did Adam mention that himself? Because sometimes when he speaks I tend to drift off and then have no recollection of what he's actually said...

As regards the (retrospectively remembered by Jill) wedding venue, surely there are only two possibilities? Either the wedding doesn't happen there and no-one ever speaks of it again, or it becomes a "real" place with a role in village life - perhaps a new base for Justin Elliot? (...Or Mr Darcy as I'm hoping he'll become.)

I do seem to remember Mike being horrified when (after his accident) Pat suggested he might be depressed.

JessieMcJessie · 07/04/2014 10:42

Catheridge Hall will burn, burn, burn I tell you!

laylalilac · 07/04/2014 10:55

Zero I think a shiny chrome bin was mentioned in a conversation between JenD and Adam [I may have imagined this]

GypsyFloss · 07/04/2014 11:22

When is the wedding?

WillieWaggledagger · 07/04/2014 11:37

twentysomething of april

23rd or 24th?

it was supposed to be easy to remember according to some weird logic from kirsty

i think i would remember 23rd due to st george / shakespeare so maybe not that one

PseudoBadger · 07/04/2014 11:42

24.04.14. Fancy not remembering that catchy date

I think that's it anyway...

OP posts:
TheOriginalSteamingNit · 07/04/2014 12:02

I think it was a shiny chrome BREAD bin, which Adam said he didn't think was Kirsty's taste but the flowery bedding was! Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 07/04/2014 12:07

Confused So was it "floods" that mixed everything up and pushed the stag and hen nights to several millennia before the Day? Or is that how things are done in RL these days?

WillieWaggledagger · 07/04/2014 12:16

dp is going to two stag nights this year, one two months before the wedding, the other four months before the wedding, so i don't think it's that unusual (more unusual that they were week nights rather than weekends but obviously couldn't be saturdays if wanted to broadcast Wink). however, dp and lots of his friends are teachers so have to fit in with those holidays

few people do the big thing the day before i'm sure. my uncle did (back in the 70s) and nearly vomited during the ceremony

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 07/04/2014 12:29

Gosh - I obviously am out of touch! I can understand months ahead if one has to book a hotel in the Caribbean - but they were just going for a night at the pub. And surely most of Tom's employed friends only work office hours...

(Definitely not suggesting the night before!)

WillieWaggledagger · 07/04/2014 12:35

lol at hotel in the caribbean - dp's friends' events are based around particular sporting fixtures so that's the other thing

yes i agree re night at the pub. though it didn't sound as though tom had any friends other than cousins, roy, jazzer and his sister's loverrrrrrrrrrrr. no wonder he was miserable. i suppose the rest (young farmers?) must have been silent

i guess if they all work on farms or in hospitality then best to do midweek as easier to get cover for them, but still

GypsyFloss · 07/04/2014 15:18

Sorry Pseudo Grin

GrendelsMum · 07/04/2014 15:38

No, Ian and Adam are giving them the duvet cover and pillowcases. JD had wanted to give them those, but chose the towels instead. No-one wants to give them the bin.
