Will this thread make it to the wedding? Will it outlive Tony?

I heard that More or Less ep Humphrey, Nigel's scream was waaaay too long (unless LL is a skyscraper Hmm).

I finished bedtime stories tonight on dot of 7:05 so that I could sneak into the study and listen, as I knew DH was cooking downstairs and would have switched over at the first tum te tum.

I shed a little tear Blush, even tho it was massively signposted.

Northernlurker · 28/03/2014 20:28

Poor Ruth. I think it's a missed opportunity by the scriptwriters tbh.

cheminotte · 28/03/2014 20:32

Having a little cry here too.

But thanks for the reminder about the clocks this weekend that they always manage to fit in somehow!

GypsyFloss · 28/03/2014 20:43

I can't get my head around Fallon choosing to sleep on Helen's sofa. I'm not sure they ever exchanged two words before. The wedding seems have given Hellqueen a real social life and almost friends. For now anyway.

Nennypops · 28/03/2014 20:46

As soon as Jill mentioned at the top of the episode that Ruth was looking pale, the cry of "Ooooh noooah!" went up throughout the land.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 28/03/2014 21:29

Had a little tear here, too. But mainly coz I was bathing a very very tired and sad dd, and am desperately trying to get my head around ttc #2 while being stupidly worried about it Confused

ColdTeaAgain · 28/03/2014 22:10

So sad. Was hoping for a storyline that touched on some of the issues around being pregnant post 40 but with a happy outcome. Really hope the writers don't bugger this up and sweep it under the carpet like nothing happened.

Suppose the next Ambridge baby is more likely to be Tom and Kirsty's then...

Fallon being drunk and disorderly was a bit unimaginative. They could of thought of something more creative than that to set her up with PC Burns!

Think both the stag and the hen must be feeling mightily disappointed with their big nights out to be honest! Although saying that, Tom would probably have happily not bothered going out at all. Poor Kenton though!

Nennypops · 28/03/2014 22:26

I'm clinging to the possibility that, having decided they wanted a baby, they should TTC again.

OddFodd · 28/03/2014 22:27

I had to explain to DS (7) what mc was. I'm glad it's over quickly though. What was the point of that?

I wonder if Fallon was so desperate to get out Blossom Hill Cottage (isn't that a kind of wine?) because Rob creeped her out or something?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/03/2014 23:20

Amid all that, Tom was apparently trying to mend fences with his dad and admitting to broken ones with the authority. Maybe a boy's night out somehow made him want to act a bit more like a decent man?

JessieMcJessie · 29/03/2014 03:23

Not sure what the point was of the pregnancy/miscarriage story. If they want to raise awareness about miscarriage, surely better to do it with a character who had every chance of a healthy baby (eg Emma, Alice, Nic) than one who was pregnant by surprise over 45. It was so high risk it's a non-story.

Cretaceous · 29/03/2014 08:50

Yes, two storyline leads were killed in one episode, what with: a) Tom going to report the TB risk, after all, and b) poor Ruth. Perhaps Ruth will now yearn for a baby, and there will be some IVF plot using donor eggs from Elizabeth, who later wants the baby back... Oh, no, she's David's sister, not Ruth's, so that wouldn't work as a plot... well, not for The Archers, anyway. I do think there might be a plot with twins and one survives. That would be a bit far-fetched, but would mean it wasn't a non-story.

Actually, I wonder if it was a public service announcement regarding the risks to older couples of getting pregnant by mistake. Weren't some figures released recently about how women in that age group were at risk from unplanned pregnancies. Perhaps the SWs were told to highlight this, but didn't want Ruth to have the baby, for plot reasons.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 29/03/2014 09:04

I hope that's not the end of the miscarriage story. It just seems such a non-story to have an older-woman's-unplanned-pregnancy a year after they did something very similar with Vicky, especially if it leads to nothing else. I have so much more confidence in the new editor that I am clinging to the hope that there will be something interesting happening as a result of all this. Don't know what, though. Surviving twin is an interesting possibility. David or Ruth having an affair could be done again, I suppose.

AskBasil · 29/03/2014 09:29

The other thing I found Shock about the Fallon storyline, is that she got a caution. Nobody mentioned that that means she now has a criminal record. This would affect any job she goes for in the licensing trade and would certainly affect any application as a licensee.

Nennypops · 29/03/2014 11:19

But was it an official caution? I'm still catching up but did hear yesterday's episode, and it sounded a bit as if PC Gorgeous just said something informally to her. Seemed to me pretty clear that he was being lined up for some sort of relationship with her.

Fluffythefish · 29/03/2014 12:23

I normally just lurk here but must butt in to say that I was rather cross on Thursday when my blog feeder ran an Archers post that talked about "if you have been affected by this issue" and links to groups that made it clear that Ruth was going to lose the baby. It disappeared soon afterwards but PLEASE Archers blog - only manually load up as this is not the first time that spoilers have accidentally let the story line out before time and it is not on
And breathe....
(Please notice how kind I was to keep this news to myself)
My teenage daughter who was forced to listen last night for the first time immediately picked up how unfair and horrible Rob was in his conversation with Helen (proud mum)

WillieWaggledagger · 29/03/2014 12:28

Fluffy I saw the same thing and kept quiet too. It's not the first time as you say

TypicaLibra · 29/03/2014 13:35

Did anyone hear the Farming programme this morning? I was half asleep, so I might have been dreaming this, but I could have sworn David Archer was on it ... as if he were just a normal farmer they'd gone out to see. It was quite surreal.

kernowal · 29/03/2014 13:42

Oh Ruth, hope you have some blessings to count next week.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 29/03/2014 13:45

Didn't hear it, but I expect that it was part of R4's character invasion. Today had an interview with Roy of the Rovers.

fairyqueen · 29/03/2014 13:48

Probably was David archer on Farming Today. Radio 4 are having a character invasion day!

nauticant · 29/03/2014 13:48

It's the day of the Character Invasion on Radio 4 TypicaLibra with loads of fictional characters being "real" for a day. Roy of the Rovers was reminiscing about his football career earlier.

nauticant · 29/03/2014 13:49

Bah!

stilllearnin · 29/03/2014 14:11

My aunt had a surviving twin. But yes a quick ttc could also be nice. Sure Fallon got a caution. It's all gone a bit pants but hoping it will pick up .

TeenAndTween · 29/03/2014 16:57

Jumping in with both feet. I've listened to TA for more or less all my life. I reckon I was named after the hole-in-the-heart Archer, who is only a few months older than me.

Anyway, I think they need someone (Tom & Kirsty?) to have a really really long running storyline over a number of years. ttc, fail, IVF a few times, adoption process, and then adopt older siblings (not cute babies), with trials and tribulations along the way, but ultimate success.

I thought they were going to do that with Roy and Hayley, but they bottled it and produced Abbie instead.

TA is really the only soap that could do justice to an adoption story line, all the TV ones need quick fixes.

Going back to T&K, I'd also like them to come to their senses re all this spending, rein it all back in, and go back to their simple wedding in a marquee idea. I really don't think either of them actually want what they're planning.
