Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

I think I said upthread I really can't see them killing off Ruth. If they did, three out of four of the Brookfield Archer children would be widowed. Run, Jolene, run!

Having said that, if the new Editor wants to slim the cast down he might be looking at acting ability as one way of deciding who to chuck.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/03/2014 10:07

Ooooh nasty!

If he did that Mimsy we'd be left with an extremely small cast...

I don't think they can kill off Ruth. But I'm prepared to put money on the cataract business not being straightforward. (Or at least not straightforwardly positive.)

You'd think Jill would say something about it - I know my mum would.

Zero, I think we'd still have quite a good-sized cast. There aren't many with as limited a register as FF, and to be frank I don't mind her that much. I'm hoping Pip will settle in Yorkshire or perhaps Alaska or outer Mongolia when she finished her degree. That would help.

Selks · 08/03/2014 14:57

Yeah I was not keen on the cheese and pickle sandwich munching noises.

JollyGolightly · 08/03/2014 19:32

Oh please let this not herald the return of Peep. Everything has been so much better since she left.

Bluestocking · 08/03/2014 19:51

Oh no, not Peep. She is AWFUL. But we have had quite a long respite from the Dopey Duo's children and I suppose it can't go on for ever.
The Alice-as-wedding-planner story is very weird indeed. She has never expressed the slightest interest in planning events, to my knowledge. It must be a key plot point - but how? Is she going to run up enormous bills? Will it cause further rifts between the parental generation as JDarling defends Alice's extravagant tastes to Moany and Pat?

GypsyFloss · 08/03/2014 20:29

I hate Peep even more than I hate Roooth .

ButterscotchClouds · 08/03/2014 20:32

Slightly late to this but did anyone notice earlier this week, or late last week, the mention of the fly-tipping. I think it was David who spotted it. Was it a coincidence that it was a mattress that had been dumped or are the writers just obsessed with beds at the moment?

PseudoBadger · 08/03/2014 20:37

I've caught up with the week. There was a plethora of "Hello you two" which I much enjoyed.
Ruth - VW would have enticed us then dropped the SL like a hot poker. I wonder if the new guy will run with something or not.
I did enjoy the cow meets pig debacle.

Yes butterscotch, hard to know the significance of that, whether it was just mentioned as the kind of maddening thing farmers have to deal with or whether it has other implications. Good point about the mattress when H+R have just got rid of one, but the bed company took away the old one so maybe not related?

cheminotte · 09/03/2014 08:37

I really like Ruth, especially since she got parodied on dead ringers. I like her level of parenting competence - good enough, doesn't worry too much. I only wish I had such a mother in law like that on my doorstep. (My MiL us lovely btw just not very local)

Bluestocking · 09/03/2014 12:03

Having listened to the minibus, my money is on Ruth having found another lump, and being terrified. I did feel for her when she burst into tears at the idea of Jill going to Shula's - she sounds completely overwhelmed. Good going, FF!

RocknRollNerd · 09/03/2014 12:32

I think the longer term plot with Ruth though will be menopause, if it weren't for the fact they'd already widowed 50% of the Archer children I would have gone for lump and recurrence of the breast cancer but I can't imagine them offing another Archer child-in-law...

ComposHat · 09/03/2014 13:34

Yes menopause I reckon.

Iwantacampervan · 09/03/2014 14:03

I amy or may not have just snapped "Thirteen minutes a day! Thirteen minutes! That's all I ask for!" as both of my daughters insisted on telling me some vital total trivial boring facts at 7:02!

Are you me ? My DDs never want to talk to me apart from when I'm trying to listen to the radio!

JessieMcJessie · 09/03/2014 16:06

"thirteen minutes a day!" -the title of the next thread?

BitOutOfPractice · 09/03/2014 17:12

Iwant they want me to sign homework diaries, discuss homework, tell me the score they got in a test, tell me what their dad said about something I don't care about, tell me about arrangements for some outing in three weeks time, tell me about every. bloody. thing. All within my thirteen minutes!

The rest of the time they are shut in their rooms Hmm

It's a conspiracy I tell you!

WhatSheSaid · 09/03/2014 17:55

Due to the time difference, my 13 minutes of Archers is live at 8am, in the middle of getting-ready-for-school madness. So I listen on my phone on headphones whole hissing "Teeth! Brush hair! Have you finished breakfast? Where is that reading book???" etc etc etc Grin

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 09/03/2014 17:57

I think '13 minutes a day! That's all I ask!' is a brilliant thread title!

GrendelsMum · 09/03/2014 18:08

I think Ruth is incredibly good at acting imaginary animals. Infuriating with actual human interaction, but when she's acting an imaginary cow, she's great!

FunLovinBunster · 09/03/2014 18:46

YY to next thread "Thirteen minutes is all I ask..."
DD waits until 19:02 when she deigns to unload all the important school stuff I need to know for the next day.

FunLovinBunster · 09/03/2014 19:12

Huzzah Roooth has lost her shit with J-eel.

ComposHat · 09/03/2014 19:16

I normally don't mind Neyul but I wanted to scream 'enough with the unsolicited advice already' on Krustie's behalf.

BasketzatDawn · 09/03/2014 19:23

I think I should get my DH a flock of sheep - so when I lose the rag he can head off to check them. And not discuss what is bothering me .... Grin Thanks to SWs for a brilliant idea.
