Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

Re the piping children, Judy Bennett (aka St. Smugula - I love that!) used to 'do' children's voices in radio drama. Come to think of it, all those afternoon plays of my youth, with weirdly high-voiced but adult-sounding children, probably featured her playing 8-yo boys.

Relieved to see that the blessed Nancy thinks Rob's a wrong 'un too even if she can't spell aficionado

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/03/2014 14:34

I'm sure I read somewhere that JB had to talk to herself sometimes as 2 different young characters!

I want to know who voices Henry - is that JB? Wink

Swannykazoo · 05/03/2014 16:18

Very harsh on marsupials I feel. hoiks bosom

unitarian · 05/03/2014 17:30

I know it's fiction but surely Helen would have had a chat with Ian by now.

nauticant · 05/03/2014 21:24

That Julie Burchill. She's one wacky individual.

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2014 08:46

The conversation (delighted goss.) between jenny and Lil about the Hell Rob situation is one I've either missed or have yet to hear and it's annoying (i know i must get out more Grin).

WillieWaggledagger · 06/03/2014 08:48

haven't heard from lilian for a while and i miss her. always entertaining. would have liked to have heard her re the water being switched off!

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2014 09:04

They probably used up her up her whole year's contract when she was having the "Russian Adventure" Matt has been very quiet too.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 06/03/2014 09:30

Ooooh yes, Jenny and Lilian should have masses to talk about! Lilian must already be in a daze about her approaching Grandmotherhood.

They have been a bit slack re Ian. Helen would have invited Adam and Ian to the love(rat) nest long before she bothered with T and K.

(29th March)

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2014 12:35

ZeroSome Also Alice and Jenny would have a great chinwag about the scandal of Hellrob wouldn't they?

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2014 12:36

I expect they're reserving Lillian for a while so that she can figure large again when Leonie is further along. Haven't had much from Lynda either, you'd have thought she'd have been active in the water crisis.

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2014 12:36

Oh I wish I lived near to Brummie Grin the OneWith

JollyGolightly · 06/03/2014 13:19

The lack of Ian is disappointing as well as unrealistic. Was the last sighting when he took Helen out to commiserate after Rob dumped her? Im sure he'd have had a few more questions for H than anyone else has dared.

Swannykazoo · 06/03/2014 14:52

I'd have to go to Brum blindfolded. They all look wrong except for Debbie when I've seen a picture

Bluestocking · 06/03/2014 15:41

Quite apart from the fact that the actor who plays Ian must be off the rota at the moment, I think it's quite plausible that The Cheesey One wouldn't seek him out at the moment. She knows that he is probably the only one of her so-called friends who would ask her some tough questions, and not fall for the whole "Helen's so vulnerable and fragile AND YET fiercely independent and stubborn" bullshit. She has established that she can trust Krusty to continue pussyfooting around the whole Titchyknob business.

GrendelsMum · 06/03/2014 16:50

Yes, I agree that Ian isn't stupid and she isn't able to bully him in the same way she does everyone else. She really is an utter cow.

Eastpoint · 07/03/2014 04:31

I really don't understand why Helen felt Kirstie & Tom needed a wedding planner & then why they thought Alice would be good at planning a wedding. We've never had any indication that Alice is good at planning anything, she's an engineer who rides. Kirstie hardly has a demanding job with long hours & an awkward commute. Next mini rant: how can Helen & Kirstie go out together for lunch? Who keeps Ambridge Organics open?

WhatSheSaid · 07/03/2014 05:37

Is the "Alice as wedding planner" storyline just to get Kirsty and Tom into even more debt, when she comes up with various expensive additions to the day?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 07/03/2014 06:10

The wedding planner thing is odd.

To be fair Kirstie's working life must be rather awkward now that she's moved into Ambridge. Juggling Ambridge Organics and Jaxx probably made sense when she lived in Borchester - but she must be forever going backwards and forwards now.

But I'd assumed Helen meant a professional planner - not just free assistance from a random family member.

Was interesting that Tom, for all his bluster, still seems to have an eye for cows.... Perhaps in the end he will embrace the new herd?

GypsyFloss · 07/03/2014 07:17

Eastpoint there is silent Anya for those moments when neither of them can be arsed to work. Quite how Ambridge Organics sells enough to fund 3 staff I have no idea.

Alice as the wedding planner could either be a way of increasing the debt as suggested up thread or as a frugal , clever with money ounterpoint to JDarling and her extravagant kitchen spending.Who knows. Personally I think whoever organises it needs to get a move on given it's next month and not April 2015.

GypsyFloss · 07/03/2014 07:18

*counterpoint. Does help if I don't leave out too many random words and letters.

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2014 07:29

Alice as wedding planner seems to me to be as artificial a construct as is Ruth's BFF relationship with Usha, and Hellin's BFF relationship with Iain.

I hope Alice's involvement has some catastrophicpoint.

And yes, it's totally unrealistic that Hellin wouldn't have been gushing about Titchy Nob to Iain.

I do hate these artificial friendships on TA, there seems to be no background story for them and certainly no ongoing relationship maintenance.

nennypops · 07/03/2014 07:31

Anyone else feeling like slapping the sausage king when he was having his hissy fit about the cows escaping? He sounds more and more like a petulant child since he stopped getting his own way about everything involving the farm.

GypsyFloss · 07/03/2014 07:36

Exactly CuttedUpPear .Another one is Helen's friendship with Emmur. They had become quite close and I can't believe that she wouldn't want to have told her about Titchynob even though it would have been like telling the whole village in one fell swoop.

The old BBC ML site used to call Soosan "radio" which I think it a cracking nickname for her and Emmur certainly has a touch of her mother about her.
