Hello you two :o

JaneEyresHeir · 12/01/2014 20:47

Do you mean Bergerac, London?
Shoestring was about a private detective, starring Trevor Eve.
I remember it because my husband told me someone came up to him in a pub and asked if he was Eddie Shoestring!

Crikeyblimey · 12/01/2014 20:58

Anyone think that Jack's daughter (Hazel?? Heather??) will have visited recently and there is a new will!? Leaving everything to her and Peggy will be destitute?? Just me then?

LondonMother · 12/01/2014 22:11

Yes, sorry, I did mean Bergerac!

Nice idea, Crikey, but Hazel came over and tried to wreak havoc over the will a few years ago and it was all sorted out then. Jack was scarcely compos mentis at that point, and has had no mental capacity to make a new will for many years now, so no subsequent will would stand up to legal scrutiny (I hope).

GypsyFloss · 12/01/2014 22:26

I thought they bought Hazel off a few years ago. She came sniffing for money, was it when Jack sold Grey Gables to Cazza and Ollie? Jack paid her a lump sum and sent her packing .

Crikeyblimey · 12/01/2014 22:34

Hmmmm. I suspect the mention of her is a pre-cursor to something "unseemly".

GypsyFloss · 12/01/2014 22:39

Oh most definitely . She is a money grabbing cow who is universally disliked and I would say she has her eye on another handout.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/01/2014 22:59

Fancy thinking she was more important than Tom's pigs! Shock I had a moment's 'who is this new very rude woman' before I realised it had to be the odious Hazel.

Panzee · 13/01/2014 06:55

Surely Peggy would have had power of attorney? No way would a will stand up in Jack's condition. I'm sure a lawyer wouldn't have even contemplated it, esp as he was in a home (and barely spoke!)

Pilcrow · 13/01/2014 08:27

Panzee, good point. She must have done, as Jeck was financially comfortable and payments to the nursing home would have been pretty eyewatering.

I do hope they don't go down the route of surprises over the will because Peggy 'forgot' to get power of attorney. She's sharp as a tack over money, always v in control, but I recall that ridiculous episode a while back when she confessed to having 'let things go', and Brine and JennyDarling had to get a finance guy in to sort it all out. Completely out of character.

NorthernLurker · 13/01/2014 08:29

Why did Hazel describe herself as a blood relative? She's adopted isn't she? She was the child of the first Mrs Woolley I thought. Maybe Jenny and Peggy were too nice to point that out.

PseudoBadger · 13/01/2014 08:33

SWs forgotten? :o

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2014 08:37

i just listened to it - after the blood relative thing jenny sort of splutters but peggy seems to stop her pointing that out

WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2014 08:38

tom said earlier in the episode that hazel was adopted so it's flagged up iyswim

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2014 08:43

Peggy was magnificently rising above everything Hazel tried - no way would she have said anything about the 'blood relative' bit - quite right, that would have been a low blow.

WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2014 08:52

yes peggy was admirable

ComposHat · 13/01/2014 08:54

Along with Rob/Robert thing, there's Jim/Jazzer two Jameses under the same roof.

As for Rob Tichner, I have a feeling that Rob's closeness to Henry is a bit sinister and we are being set up for a grooming storyline.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2014 09:03

I suspect Hazel might have thrown in that 'blood relative' line deliberately - I think she was trying to provoke 'unreasonable' reactions. So glad she failed!

I don't think you're right re rob and henry - he's a woman-abuser, Henry will be a pawn in his manipulations.

ppeatfruit · 13/01/2014 09:04

Yes but pilcrow Peggy is in her 90s it wouldn't be surprising if she let things go sometimes.
I never heard mention of Hazel visiting her old Dad who she "was so close to". Anyone?

cheminotte · 13/01/2014 09:09

Compo isn't jazzers real name Jack? There is the 2 Eds of course as well.

ComposHat · 13/01/2014 09:11

You're right Jazzer is a Jack, I've just checked on the BBC website.

lljkk · 13/01/2014 09:27

I felt sorry for Pat last night, the deception has been so thorough. But then Pat is quite interfering.
Y'all know that the actress who plays Peggy had the same experience in real life with her late husband, long decline into dementia etc.? That's one reason she plays it so beautifully.

I'm going to enjoy Hazel. Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/01/2014 10:23

pilcrow Surely the "letting things go" by Peggy was a cunning plot device to introduce the community shop? (As well as being a fairly natural development iyswim.)

Hazel might protest - but it would be entirely wrong to introduce any sudden inheritance surprise.

HenryShock No way! Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2014 10:30

Was it also around the time of her stroke? Even an ambridge-style one would naturally cause some 'letting go'.

WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2014 10:33

june spencer's desert island discs is well worth a listen

GreenShadow · 13/01/2014 10:36

Don't forget there is also a Chris and Christine and I'm sure I once thought of another one but can't for the life of me remember who at the moment.
