Hello you two :o

OP posts:
ZeroSomeGameThingy · 19/01/2014 19:17

"Anyone for a fondant fancy?"

Grin
Selks · 19/01/2014 19:17

That was priceless! I could just picture the expressions of horror as Peggy revealed her intentions...

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 19/01/2014 19:17

um - I think it's time she found out about Rob (or would that make her give Helen something else just in case? Hmm)

GypsyFloss · 19/01/2014 19:18

Oh blimey. I wonder if she will change her mind about the Lodge when she hears about Helen.
I agree about her soft spot for Tom, he is her golden boy and he and Kirsty are now set to carry the family name onwards.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 19/01/2014 19:19

I'm so glad my mum doesn't differentiate between her children on the basis of our relative financial success. Well meaning but a seriously bad idea.

This is like the opening chapter of an Agatha Christie ...

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2014 19:20

Oh yes, all that a week or so back about how Tom & Kirsty reminded her of Jack and herself.

Lordy though, if you were going to so umm 'unfair' in your will, surely you'd have a quiete word with Jenny and Lilian first. Does seem very unfair to the other grandchildren - I mean Adam isn't exactly loaded is he?

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 19/01/2014 19:20

PS. Tom is technically the Archers heir (only surviving son of only son of eldest son) so leaving most of it to him makes sense in an old fashioned way. But not for the rationale stated. She should have just said 'patriarchy innit'.

GypsyFloss · 19/01/2014 19:22

Can you imagine the ill feeling this will cause between siblings who already have a slightly challenged relationship , never mind between the cousins. What a daft idea , unless we discover that, having tied up all the loose ends, she pops her clogs in her sleep tonight.

WhatSheSaid · 19/01/2014 19:24

So Peggy's grandchildren are...

Adam, Debbie, Kate, Alice, James, Helen and Tom. Plus great-grandchildren - Phoebe and Kate's other 2, also James' dc when he/she is born. Oh and Henry.

And Tom gets the lot Shock, with Helen and Henry getting a valuable property. Still, at least it wil get thirtysomething Helen out of her parents house...

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 19/01/2014 19:25

& what about John's son...

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2014 19:25

Especially as Pat & Tony do very little for Peggy. Seems to be Jenny and Lilian who do the bulk of running her round etc

I bet Helen will be furious that Tom will get more than her. Rob will be happy though - no need to go house hunting but Peggy may want to be a bit careful when around him in case she joins jess under the patio.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2014 19:27

I don't think it fits with what we know of Peggy - she's normally so fair.

I did like Emma getting annoyed though with peggy and jennifer who both thought the puppy would be better off and less likely to be shot at Wills Wink

WhatSheSaid · 19/01/2014 19:29

Of course, John's son too, the amazing disappearing Rich.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 19/01/2014 19:30

if the puppy moves in with Will, George won't be far behind

Bluestocking · 19/01/2014 19:30

Never has a fondant fancy been so freighted with familial fireworks!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/01/2014 19:33

Does Peggy know about Rich?

I can sort of see Peggy's logic - although she may not have taken into account that when Brian divvys up Home Farm, Adam may be out and Rory (look, its radio, that's how it sounds) may be in.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2014 19:34

It also makes tony feel a failure compared to his more financially stable sisters.

Yes, Peggy's will has managed to offend everyone, well apart from golden tom.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 19/01/2014 19:36

Rich appears to be persona non grata (and, back to patriarchy, is technically illegitimate. Rich FitzJohn as it were).

GypsyFloss · 19/01/2014 19:37

I was just thinking about Tony will feel shite as provider and Pat will get all prickly about being deemed inadequate. It will feed her feeling she has failed as a parent .

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 19/01/2014 19:38

And someone should point out to Peggy that financial ruin can and does happen. All this 'you won't want for money' business is a misplaced approach to things.

GypsyFloss · 19/01/2014 19:41

Exactly Somewhere it wasn't that long that Tiger and Pusscat were struggling for money

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2014 19:41

Yes, I thought that too. I mean Matt has lost how much money recently? Brian is a bit of a risk taker isn't he? And surely Jenny could do with a running away fund?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 19/01/2014 19:41

all this is far more SATTC than pushing poor old Nigel off that roof

I hope VW is grinding her teeth that she didn't think of something like this herself

Bluestocking · 19/01/2014 19:42

Anyone would think Peggy was a fictional character whose actions are not guided by character but by the need to create adversarial relationships between her kith and kin!
Seriously, though, don't apparently quite rational people go doolally over wills? MN is full of ghastly toxic legacy stories.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 19/01/2014 19:43

I hope if Tony does feel like that he will come to realise that Jennifer & Lilian have got most/all of their affluence from the men they hooked up with

whereas what he has is from the work he & Pat have put in
