Graceparkhill. 'low pair' work for EmmaGrin like an au pair but less glamorous.

ThoughtFox · 17/01/2014 19:35

He's practised at manipulating women, isn't he? But I think Pat will be the one that stands up to him.

OddFodd · 17/01/2014 19:37

Grin @ low pair - so true!

Bah - I was a bit disappointed by tonight's episode. I wanted a big Friday night cliff hanger, not the slightly damp squib of Pat's hand wringing

ThoughtFox · 17/01/2014 19:39

oh come on - this one is going to run and run...

Bluestocking · 17/01/2014 19:40

I do love a good villain, and the SWs have served up two - Emotional Abuser Rob and Slitheen Hazel. It's just a shame that there's no earthly reason why the two of them should cross swords.

GypsyFloss · 17/01/2014 19:57

Rob almost had me fooled into thinking that he and Helen really do love each other. Then he quietly threatened Pat in that slightly scary menacing way he has and I came to my senses. If the scriptwriters get this right it , it could be the best domestic abuse storyline .

GypsyFloss · 17/01/2014 19:59

That reads oddly , I don't want to glory in a domestic abuse situation but if they are going to do it I want it done realistically.

ComposHat · 17/01/2014 20:00

Has there been a Domestic Abuse storyline in the Archers before?

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/01/2014 20:06

I've only half listened this week but did I hear Emmur being a tad judgey over Helen's affair with Rob - oh the irony.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 17/01/2014 20:14

Not domestic abuse as such, but when Owen raped Kathy, had she been seeing him? I can't remember the details now.

GypsyFloss · 17/01/2014 20:17

Indeed MrsCampbellBlack pot...kettle sprang to mind. That and oh you are definitely your mother's daughter.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/01/2014 20:23

Owen and Kathy were just friends I think.

Rob is truly chilling.

GypsyFloss · 17/01/2014 20:26

He is. He will start hitting Helen and she won't know where to turn having burnt her bridges when she leaves home.

LondonMother · 17/01/2014 20:29

No, Owen hadn't been seeing Kathy, but they'd spent time together because of the panto, I think. He'd convinced himself that his attentions would be welcome, as far as I can recall. It was a horrible scene to listen to.

Very much her mother's daughter- a bit jealous and resentful. I think she enjoyed the drama of having 2 men fighting over her but the reality of poverty, returning to live with parents and taking on low pair work has given her an air of perputual envy. Spot on, Grace!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 17/01/2014 20:40

so what about this family gathering at Peggy's on Sunday...??? Any ideas?

OddFodd · 17/01/2014 20:45

Wasn't there Lizzie's boyfriend ages ago? Simon? He hit her I think (and raped her). But that wasn't a slow build a la Trevor Jordache - it was a quick turn from charming to menacing as far as I remember.

That description of Emmur is spot on!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 17/01/2014 20:47

oh yes! Simon Pemberton!

And the one who had a go at both Shula & Debbie?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 17/01/2014 20:52

oh - no - Cameron Fraser was Lizzie's (I've had to google though)

Simon Pemberton was Shula/Debbie's

Simon was a cad, Cameron was a love-rat

OddFodd · 17/01/2014 21:05

Oh yes - thanks NicestSmile - I'm conflating two characters (have also googled!). It was Simon Pemberton who assaulted Debbie. And Cam Fraser who got Lizzie pregnant

TallGiraffe · 17/01/2014 21:10

I just hope we're right and they don't just turn it into they all live happily ever after. It's such a good storyline with some brilliant acting.

GypsyFloss · 17/01/2014 21:27

It can't be a happy ever after storyline. I would be so disappointed .It has the potential not just to entertain but to fulfil the Beeb public education remit big time.

ComposHat · 17/01/2014 23:14

That is the first thing I remember, Cameron Fraser dumping a pregnant Lizzie at a motorway service station. The rotter.

Theas18 · 17/01/2014 23:16

The writers must read mn. It's a very chilling EA portrayal.

Graceparkhill · 17/01/2014 23:35

My EAdar must be well and truly defective then. I thought Rob was being sincere and responsible in his convo with Pat. I think Pat is the controlling one tbh.

Sorry to disappoint you all after my dazzling resume of Emmur.

I will of course come back and apologise when the gaslighting of Helen begins.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/01/2014 23:40

How many 'sincere responsible' blokes have their wife apparently due to start work nearby, with discussions about where they should buy a house just before Christmas, and then by mid-January are moving in the OW complete with child who calls you 'Daddy' ?
