Yes, Jack is dead, I'm afraid. The actor (Arnold Peters) has been dead for several months so it was only a matter of time.

Sorry!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2014 18:06

The thing about David was just some sort of joke of Eddie's I think.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 03/01/2014 18:06

Thanks, LM - I haven't managed to listen this week (I knew the actor had died) so was planning to catch up on Sunday - hence the clanger comment though, for anyone else who didn't know but heard PM tonight!

Minimammoth · 03/01/2014 18:15

Does the Am never flood? Will we ever see/hear Jess again alive
Are Hellirob really going to move in together?

LondonMother · 03/01/2014 18:23

The Am flooded a few years ago and Ambridge Hall (Lynda and Robert's house) had flood damage.

I hope we're in for some big rows over HelliRob, including Jess returning!

Songbird · 03/01/2014 18:27

Loved the PM interview, it all sounded eminently sensible. I liked that they looked for someone 'Eeyoreish' to be the new Tony. And that Colin wotsit was involved in the decision. Poor old bugger is nearly 15 years older than the character and has had several heart attacks and heart surgery Sad

Songbird · 03/01/2014 18:28

And also, if David 'son of Patrick' Troughton has recorded a months worth of episodes the shit is clearly going to hit the fan at Bridge Farm!!

Pilcrow · 03/01/2014 19:09

Errol, yes! I remember David Troughton in that (very good) Dickens adaptation Grin

Pilcrow · 03/01/2014 19:10

Whoops, I meant me, not you, Errol! Blush

Bluestocking · 03/01/2014 19:12

Stand by, Jill is driving again!

JaneEyresHeir · 03/01/2014 19:15

Not any more she's not!

NorthernLebkuchen · 03/01/2014 19:20

Ok - who cried?

I did Blush

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/01/2014 19:39

I did feel a little tearful...

And I thought of TheSparklyPussycat (I think) remembering "doom music" for other deaths. But this was lovely and gentle.

LondonMother · 03/01/2014 20:22

I was a wet rag. Was this the first week Sean O'Connor has been in charge? He directed this week as well as being Editor, and I noted that Joanna Toye wrote the scripts. I thought she probably had, as we always have lots of casting back to the past when she is writing (all to the good, as far as I am concerned). Nicely judged all round, I thought.

I see that Vanessa Whitburn has been made an OBE. I also see that the BBC has sensibly disabled comments under that blog post.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/01/2014 20:29
Grin
Bluestocking · 03/01/2014 20:37

I don't know what's wrong with me - I usually cry at everything but Jeck and Piggoi just didn't do it for me.
Is Eddie going to go after Jill and the Dopeys for more compo, having got such a great result out of Caroline after Joe's drunken fall at Grey Gables?

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 03/01/2014 20:48

About time there was some Ambridge flooding, given this bloody awful depressing weather we've all had to put up with recently ...

Re: Ambridge Hall flooding - the name makes it sound much grander than I'd imagined for Lynda and Robert. Can any of the old-skool Archers listeners provide us with a handy cut out n'keep guide to The Properties Of Ambridge?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2014 21:03

Lovely ending with the music and the cat purring.

Pilcrow, the gimmer hat probably fits me too. Grin

NorthernLebkuchen · 03/01/2014 21:11

I remember Jeck and Peggy getting married -so I guess I would find it more moving than if you've only known them in these last years.
Ambridge HAll is quite grand. It was the home of the Lawson-Hope family I think - the original squires of Ambridge. Dan Archer, David's grandfather, was one of their tenants at Brookfield before buying the far,. Doris, his wife, was Mrs Lawson-Hope's maid. She left Dan and Doris Glebe Cottage in her will. Doris left it to Shula and then Phil and Jill retired there whilst Shula and Elizabeth got some cash and David got the farm (Kenton had already got some cash to pay off debts)
Ambridge Hall was the home of AUnt Laura for a long time - Dan's sister in law. After she died it was bought by Robert and Lynda - Robert was then quite high up in 'computer programming'. It was only a few years later that he lost his job and Lynda went out to work to make ends meet.

LondonMother · 03/01/2014 21:13

Properties of Ambridge, courtesy of the BBC. This shows artist's impressions of various houses/areas. here are various maps, also on the BBC website.

LondonMother · 03/01/2014 21:16

Sorry, Northern, but according to the Archers Encyclopaedia, Ambridge Hall was actually built as the doctor's house, so probably not quite as grand. I'm not sure where the Lawson-Hopes lived, but only silent people live there now. I think it may be some way out of the village.

NorthernLebkuchen · 03/01/2014 21:34

Hmmmm I wonder if they lived in the Dower House then?

Impomea · 03/01/2014 21:52

Thanks for that link London-I want to live at Ambridge Hall Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2014 22:10

Hmmmm I wonder if they lived in the Dower House then?

surely the Dower House would be where the squires mother would have lived?

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2014 22:13

Oh L.M. did you see the lonely cow at Bridge Farm in your link? Grin Thanks for it btw!
