Thanks Londonmother! I have relished reading everybody's thoughts on TA, I don't have many people irl to share with. I have been an avid listener since childhood and am amazed at some of the knowledge on here.

SthingMustBeScaringThemAway · 03/11/2013 09:55

Oooh another childhood listener! Though if you have anyone to talk about TA with you're luckier than me some.

Earliest memories??

ppeatfruit · 03/11/2013 10:22

Thanks Thanks for both the links london. Interesting about the new ex EE editor and his attitude to 'old' people typical bleedin' arrogant git face IMHO Grin
Yes agree about the pics i think the description of Sunny Ormonde (Lilian) as beautiful (the Ruskys must be living in another world) is pushing it a bit. David is cuter in RL though.

Eastpoint · 03/11/2013 10:26

I think the incest refers to Lilian's affair - sleeping with a pair of brothers may not be incest but it's pretty dodgy.

ppeatfruit I haven't been to quatres saisons since 1995, we spent two nights there back in the days when we didn't have dcs. Food wasn't as memorable as the food at some other restaurants we went to back then.

JessieMcJessie · 03/11/2013 10:39

I rather liked the Liz Jones article. Interesting that Hollie Chapman who plays Alice is actually a nanny.

I am another childhood listener. Would have been conscious of the programme from around 1980 or so. I think that my earliest memories are of Nelson and his wine bar, maybe Lizzie and Cameron Fraser, possibly Bridge farm making yoghurt for the first time, Mark's accident.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 03/11/2013 10:41

Well this is a depressing omnibus ... Not enjoying any of the storylines so far, what with ragey Ed and depressed Darrell and the irritating skwawking Aussies ...

campion · 03/11/2013 11:25

Lillian and Matt aren't actually married, LondonMother, so she can sleep with who she likes.

Not that she'd be any different either way.

How's Matt's blood pressure?Wink

ppeatfruit · 03/11/2013 11:53

It was the late 90s when we ate there; it's a bit like paradise East lucky you staying there Envy i remember the food being AMAZING actually Grin We had rich friends and dh had a big expense account at that time!

WhatSheSaid · 03/11/2013 19:08

Could Shula be any more patronising and snarky with Darrell?

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/11/2013 19:12

I know - and all the lame ducks references are most annoying.

And Jess is also uber annoying isn't she?

GypsyFloss · 03/11/2013 19:14

I haven't listened all week , just catching up now to hear the wonderful wife Jess and the extremely patronising St Shula.

WhatSheSaid · 03/11/2013 19:21

Even David got in on the Darrell-patronising. "Get yourself and me a drink, peasant".

Would have loved Henry to pipe up to Rob and Jess, You're the man who was kissing Mummy!" :)

I think they're setting up Meriel to stay longer in Ambridge, with her ”I like lots of things better here" (including Jamie)

GypsyFloss · 03/11/2013 19:33

Oh I do hope Henry dobs in Rob Grin

Mirage · 03/11/2013 21:02

I'm friends with Hollie Chapman's mum,my sister taught Hollie ballet and tap years ago.[outs self completely].

R4 · 03/11/2013 23:35

Can someone explain what happened tonight. Did Jess connive with Lynda to talk Rob into taking part in the panto. Does that mean that Ambridge finally gets Jess' seal of approval and she will be moving in soon? I really hope not, she is as wooden as a wooden thing.

JessieMcJessie · 04/11/2013 01:35

Eurgh, the actress playing Jess is TERRIBLE. The lines she has are fine but she's delivering them like a 6th former in a school play- extremely unconvincing as a social worker.

Also, I can't fathom why they had Kenton and Jolene driving to The Lakes in October for a honeymoon. Kenton staying sober at his own wedding to drive straight there? Nonsense. K and J already live in a rural village and are the least outdoorsy couple there. They'd me much more likely to have gone to Vegas or Paris or something. At least when she married Sid they got it roght and sent them to Memphis.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2013 13:47

I can't fathom why they had Kenton and Jolene driving to The Lakes in October

It'll be perfectly beautiful there today if they get outside, and lots of excellent local beers and food.

Minimammoth · 04/11/2013 17:14

Does anyonelse wonder why there is a distinct lack of dog owning on the Archers. Everyone I know who has a farm also has a dog or two. The Grundys would defo have a Jack Russell. But no one ever mentions or takes their dog out. Horses have a mention. Captain, now long gone, so SW get real.

SthingMustBeScaringThemAway · 04/11/2013 17:32

Hmmm.. Think there's a dog at Brookfield. And Will has one. I have a vague feeling there's one at Home Farm. And Ambridge Hall of course. Not sure about the Carters or the Tuckers or Grange Farm...

But the Bull ought to have a dog. And surely there's one at Lower Loxley?

Something in Sunday's episode made me think they're reading this thread. So we may hear more dogs soon.Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2013 17:32

There are a few dogs - I'm not sure what the current ones are though, dogs don't live long enough (especially in a place where they may be shot for sheep worrying or eat a poisoned egg. Is Scruff still around? The Grundies had Tess; Will has/had Meg; Brookfield always has a dog - and of course Oliver has a whole pack of hounds.

ppeatfruit · 04/11/2013 17:39

jessie I agree your namesake is not a very good actress i got the feeling it's her nerves though very clunky indeed.

Oh and i think Shula is at last dealing with Darrell in the correct manner; his behaviour seems to warrant, he's a sad character with no gumption and needs a kick up the arse IMHO Grin

JessieMcJessie · 04/11/2013 18:23

Lynda has got Scruff - he was too boisterous for the stables IIRC. Wasn't there a new puppy at Brookfield that Freddy liked to visit during the time that Lizzy and david had fallen out? Will Grundy's dog died and there was much talk about the new puppy and what george wanted to call it, after a biblical character, began with B.

A dog at the Bull would chase the peacock.

Kirsty and Tom should get one I reckon, a nice Irish Setter or something.

LondonMother · 04/11/2013 19:17

I reckon that peacock has drunk the waters of eternal life. I have no idea how long peacocks normally live, but Eccles (I think that's his name) must be about 30 years old.

celestialbows · 04/11/2013 21:11

Sthingmustbescaringthemaway: I think my earliest memories include an old man who used to exclaim 'my eye!' when something shocked or surprised him, I can't remember who that was, possibly a Grundy?
I remember Walter Gabriel and I remember his death and I clearly remember Ruth joining the Archers as a student and the ensuing romance with David.
As a teen I used to try and persuade boyfriends or friends to join me in listening to the Sunday omnibus after wild Saturday nights, it was a constant for me throughout some really crazy times.
Now I mainly listen to podcasts on my phone on the way to work or when I'm cooking in the kitchen.
In some ways I love it more now as I've been through so much and so many changes through the years and it's always been there (mawkish post)
It also reminds me of my late grandfather who was a huge fan, he detested Linda but I've grown quite fond of her, they've made her kind.
I hated the recent Russian Amex story but was glued to it, it was ridiculous, far fetched and cheap despite the diamonds and furs.
There are four people in real life who I can talk about it with BT none of them are people I see frequently, two of them live a long way from me, one is a friend I barely see and another is a colleague who works from another office!

celestialbows · 04/11/2013 21:15

I also think Jess sounds wrong...she sounds way to young to be a married social worker or maybe it's just me who is old? I have noticed that the police men and women are looking very young these days...
