New thread!

OP posts:
JessieMcJessie · 12/09/2013 10:55

I think that she was being serious. However it was badly written because Lynda is clever and would be well aware that Jim, as a professor of classics, would not be in any way qualified to talk about the Aztecs! That is why It may have seemed like she was taking the mickey.

Ladyflip · 12/09/2013 14:15

I too love the way that Linda can punctuate a sentence with a sniff!

And I have now completely lost faith in the robnHellin story; she's clearly not that interested or she would have wowed at the 50 point rotary.

mummytime · 12/09/2013 14:48

I actually quite liked that bit. It was if Helen suddenly started to realise after the lust that maybe she has a few moral issues with Rob (obviously a wife isn't one of them-she'd be eaten alive on the relationship board here).

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2013 16:11

But Hellin wasn't morally outraged enough to stop dragging him into an empty storeroom for a knee trembler was she?????!!!!!

Ponders · 12/09/2013 21:02

Still recovering here from having to listen to all the heavy breathing and slurping from RobnHellin. I so want them to be found out ASAP, at least it'll move the storyline on a bit

I have to keep moaning stoppitstoppitstoppit at the radio until they desist

it's horrible

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2013 21:07

Hopefully Pat will enter that bought necklace and someone will recognise it .

Oh Kathy... didn't you learn how to handle bullies when you were a teacher? I do hope Martyn gets his comeuppance soon, I can't stand much more of him.

WhatSheSaid · 12/09/2013 21:07

YEs, Rob and Helen in storeroom was getting a bit "Sid and Jolene in the shower"-esque.

So the judge of the craft bit of the show is going to be the owner of the shop where Helen bought the necklace, isn't it? Or some such device to land Helen in the poo.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2013 21:13

I agree TA radio sex is dreadful; I s'pose it must be difficult to write anything different, but there must be another way other than slurping Hmm Anyone here have any ideas?

TheSilverySoothsayer · 13/09/2013 11:42

Sighing. Slurping. Groaning. Moaning. Howling? (bet Hellin howls)

No, no ideas that work. Now need brain bleach.

TheSilverySoothsayer · 13/09/2013 11:43

Rustling? ? (I got that one from Buffy sub-titles)

I'd better stop...

Ponders · 13/09/2013 11:53

I am still traumatized by the sound effects just before Ben was conceived (just got the hay in - beautiful warm night on top of the hay wagon - sigh - moan)

gag

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2013 12:02

To be fair, I'm not sure this is unique to TA - can you think of any examples where its been done well? And frankly, I'm not sure that even if it could be done I really want to hear it just after lunch/dinner time or while making Sunday lunch Grin

Ponders · 13/09/2013 12:38

Imagine that chicken-eating scene from Tom Jones without the pictures

ew

Ponders · 13/09/2013 12:43

I think it's worse in TA though because they're people we 'know' - when it's a one-off play or whatever we don't have a connection

As it is it's like listening to actual friends snogging (even if we don't like the characters)

The livestock noises can be just as disgusting but they're not personal Grin

Somethingyesterday · 13/09/2013 13:26

Ponders I'm sure I have heard that particular scene on R4! Was quite entertaining iirc.

Good point about it being people we know.

The worst thing is that they always arrange the slurpy episodes for when I have people to stay who think TA is merely a rather quaint affectation of mine. Then they hear Helen... Blush Then they look at me funny. Hmm

HarlotOTara · 13/09/2013 14:19

I really can't stand the Martin Gibson story when o when will it end. Surely the SWs know we have got the picture by now. I think I will need to turn the sound down in future as I am getting more and more angry and frustrated.

I really hope Kathy stands up to him and tells him to fuck off. Sadly I expect Kathy she will just slope off to GG and we will never hear about his comeuppance. Time for the mouse to roar.

curlew · 13/09/2013 15:01

Nobody will tell me why Martin has the authority to behave the way he is. Who is he?

Somethingyesterday · 13/09/2013 16:07

Isn't he the Borchester Land accountant, or something like that? And they own the Golf Club? That's how I've been understanding it - but I could be wrong.

I'm certain it will all come to a head tonight.

choccyp1g · 13/09/2013 16:09

Martyn is the accountant for Borchester Land, who apparently own the Golf Club (don't remember its ownership ever mentioned before).

The story is bollox. Since when has it been the accountant's job to recruit catering staff?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2013 16:11

I think the actor playing Martyn is enjoying himself hugely. The story surely has to wrap up soon so that he can move on to his season as pantomime villain.

Somethingyesterday · 13/09/2013 16:12

.....the "something like that" being on the Board of Borchester Land and charged with the duty of overseeing this particular asset....

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2013 17:47

Hopefully the board will review soon: 'so Martyn, the problems at the club started when? Uh huh... and your active interest began ... uh huh' -

PrincessFiorimonde · 13/09/2013 18:29

Every time I hear Martyn (yes, it is Martyn with a 'y', according to the Radio Times cast list) do his sneering stuff, I grind my teeth.

I don't care how annoying/whingey Kathy (with a 'K') is - I just cannot believe that any grown-up person could possibly listen to his sneering shit without either throwing his humungous bar bill in his face, or just telling him to fuck off.

Ponders · 13/09/2013 18:53

\link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thearchers/\this is interesting}

Kathy actually looks like her voice

& Martyn looks very familiar but I don't know where from

Ponders · 13/09/2013 18:56

oooh, oooh, oooh

\link{http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0148895/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_30\he's Mr Cholmondley-Warner!!!!}

how wonderful Grin
