New thread!

OP posts:

Rich. That's his name, not his level of affluence.

kiriwawa · 10/09/2013 18:09

LondonMother - you should go on Mastermind with the Archers as your specialist subject. Your powers of recall are truly awesome :o

LondonMother · 10/09/2013 18:29

Aw shucks, kiriwawa! If only my powers of recall about things that are actually useful were anything like as good....

happyscouse · 10/09/2013 20:08

Anyone else quite fancy the Mexican night at Grey "Butlins" now where's me poncho!!!

OliviaMMumsnet · 10/09/2013 20:12

Yes, surely Ian has some chicken and chocolate recipe in his repertoire

Rich. YY what has happened to him?!?

Somethingyesterday · 10/09/2013 20:43

Tut... We've been over this Grin

Rich wont appear again until the reading of the joint Pat'n'Tony will. At which point Helen, Tom and Henry will discover that legally, everything belongs to John's descendants.....

BeaLola · 10/09/2013 21:27

Just joining this lovely thread so I can whinge - its getting boring.... The scriptwriters need to up their game. Where arecthese current plots headed & Do i care ?

Lynda for assistant manager
Kathy takes over the Health Club after giving Martyn his rather large tab
Tom & Kirsty back together
Ruth drawn to mega dairy arch enemy Rob ...
Shula cleans out a stable for Daryl to sleep in
Helen pregnant
Jess arrives in Ambridge ...

BTW what scars for Rob ?

I remember Polly dying -it was dramatic - she was out with Pat at the time.

WipsGlitter · 10/09/2013 21:41

Oh god. Not another affair for Ruth.

Somethingyesterday · 10/09/2013 21:58

Hi MethuseLola Smile A stable might be poor Darrell's only option.

I was furious with the SWs tonight. How dare they make homelessness look like a reprehensible "lifestyle choice." And make Alan sound such a hand-wringing incompetent. He's a highly educated, experienced Vicar - they made him sound as if he'd never come across any human problem before. Darrell doesn't need counselling - he needs a roof over his head. And in the real world ... < disappears, ranting and shaking head..>

HarlotOTara · 11/09/2013 07:09

I had some sort of eureka moment in the night. I woke and realised that the woman that Ray has ensconced in the Garden Suite is his fancy woman! Icing on the cake.

Why oh why do Kathy, Linda and Ian not just tell Martin and Ray to fuck off.

Gigondas · 11/09/2013 07:13

Oh you reckon harlot! I also find it bizarre they just suffer ray and say nothing.

PigletJohn · 11/09/2013 07:30

She does seem to have been there rather a long time for a reviewer.

Caroline will be furious that she was not warned in tine to give a few touches of advice or put Linda in charge.

PseudoBadger · 11/09/2013 07:40

Don't forget this is clearly a SL designed to split up Carpline (sp mistake but i like it :o) and Oliver. Therefore she will only be furious with him, for dragging her away from GG to selfishly. Personality transplants ahoy!

OP posts:
lottiegarbanzo · 11/09/2013 08:09

Ooh, interesting Harlot.

They cannot break up Coliver, Caroline has had such terrible luck with men over the years; just when she seemed to have found happiness, that poor husband dropping dead on the kitchen floor.

Hopefully the incident will persuade her to employ a proper manager, as not being able to leave the hotel for a moment is totally impractical. Then Kathy and Linda can battle for the job and Caroline can retire to bathe in Jersey milk while Olly feeds her grapes and Sterling Gold.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/09/2013 08:17

I've completely forgotten Caroline had a husband who dropped dead... what was he called? Confused I seem to remember her being engaged, was it to a vet but it broke up?

Somethingyesterday · 11/09/2013 08:30

A Harlot in the Garden Suite? Interesting...

Caroline and O splitting up? I hope you don't have inside info Pseudo.

Cathy never seems to have any relatives. Isn't it time for her to inherit a huge amount of money? Just in time to relieve the Sterlings of their burdensome business.

Or - more 21st century - why not a (sort of) management buy out? Cathy, Linda and Ian could surely drum up some funding?

Somethingyesterday · 11/09/2013 08:32

The husband who died was Guy. And she was (apparently before Guy) engaged to Robin the Vicar.

PigletJohn · 11/09/2013 08:35

Caroline has always been attracted to older millionaires.

Even Brian.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/09/2013 08:44

Oh yes, I vaguely remember them.
Wasn't the breakup with Robin somehow connected with the accident which did for Shula's Mark? He was avoiding Caroline's misbehaving horse and she got terribly guilty and sad or something?

curlew · 11/09/2013 08:56

On a sort of serious note - I'm quite angry with the powers that be at The Archers. It just feels as if they're taking the piss- "How much crap can we feed the boring middle aged farts who listen before they actually reach for the off switch?" And then, when listener figures eventually do drop, they'll axe the show.

Hookedonclassics · 11/09/2013 09:37

...also does anyone remember Dr Thoroughgood (I think) that Caroline lived with for a short time?

I seem to remember she couldn't marry Robin as she didn't she feel she could believe in God after Mark died, and couldn't be a vicars wife etc.

Has her uncle Lord Netherborne popped off yet? Maybe he could leave her his stately pile!

LondonMother · 11/09/2013 09:43

Errol - Mark was avoiding the horse that Caroline was riding, yes. He went into a tree while on his mobile to Shula and we heard the whole thing on air. Caroline was either in a coma for a while and emotionally traumatised, or just emotionally traumatised, and in the end she called off the wedding as she realised it wasn't what she wanted. Not her first long-term relationship to go up in smoke, either - she had been previously been living with a doctor whose name IIRC was Matthew Thorogood.
I think he was the one who sold the practice to Richard Locke, who lived with Usha and had an affair with Shula. And before that there was some army chap who was in Berlin.

Curlew - yes, I agree. I've resisted that way of thinking for umpteen years but just at the moment TA is about as bad as I can ever remember. I wonder how things will change when the new Editor takes charge.

LondonMother · 11/09/2013 09:44

X-post, Hooked! Well remembered about Lord N. He hasn't been mentioned for yonks now. Perish the thought that the SWs have forgotten he exists.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/09/2013 10:11

Well remembered! It was before all those men that she had a long affair with Brian wasn't it, in the 80s. For years, every time a new professional or wealthy man appeared in the village I thought 'new squeeze for Caroline'. She was like a spider, waiting to wrap them up.

OldBeanbagz · 11/09/2013 10:13

I had a brainwave last night re. Rob's scars.

Maybe he and Jess had been in a car crash in Canada and she's actually wheelchair bound living with her parents? That's why he goes to visit her all the time rather than Jess coming to Ambridge.

In any case i wish the story would move on a bit.

And can the scriptwriters please get rid of both Ray & Martyn. The storylines are cringeworthy and it's turning me off The Archers!
