NOOOO David

missthing · 19/05/2011 19:17

Oh God, I've been dreading this coming, thought it might be avoided - why why why WHY did David tell her???

OP posts:
GrendelsMum · 20/05/2011 13:20

NO, I meant that someone was being unfair to say that David talked him into it - Nigel was more than willing to go on the roof there and then. If anything, I thought that Lizzy was being unreasonable by expecting that David would just drop whatever he had to do and come round to their house to take down a banner. She could have helped Nigel herself the next day, rather than expecting David to come over specially.

Ponders · 20/05/2011 14:29

they should have got a man in, with scaffolding, & elf & safety certificates...

poor old Dave. He really is a dope.

GoodnightNobody · 20/05/2011 14:29

R4 thanks for potted summary!

Ponders · 20/05/2011 14:32

how many of us were screaming "DON'T TELL HER!!!!!" the moment she started praising him to the skies?

IloveJudgeJudy · 20/05/2011 15:19

I was. Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut. Haven't been listening that long. Why don't people like Lizzie?

SpeedyGonzalez · 20/05/2011 15:23

Ah. I see, Grendel, that makes sense.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/05/2011 15:24

I actually did go 'noooo Daviiiid' at the radio last night - and turned off the repeat this lunchtime, couldn't stand it again.

The bloody idiot. He should either have fessed up immediately or forever held his peace.

Ponders · 20/05/2011 15:34

I agree, Grimma. (I went 'nooooooooooooooooo' too, as well as DON'T)

but it was all about looking after Lizzie at the start & knowing it was his fault might have finished her off (shame he didn't tell her then Grin) & he couldn't keep it in forever.

what will Jill say? Shock

Ponders · 20/05/2011 15:39

JudgeJudy, she's the baby & spoilt & she's always been a bit of a brat with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. When Phil decided to dole out the family inheritance she had a big strop about Lily & Freddie getting their share, even though D&R would be doing all the work on the farm & L&F get Lower Loxley anyway.

She roped Kenton in to help fight her corner even though he'd already had his share.

I think she & Shula, who was OK with it all, both ended up with the same thing (but I can't remember what that was Grin)

campion · 20/05/2011 17:33

Furthermore, she's got a dicky heart ( not dicky enough) in more ways than one and so we have to be ever so nice to her.

Even I feel a bit sorry for her now

midnightservant · 20/05/2011 17:35

Hi all - haven't been listening because Nigel's death was the last straw for me - but keeping up very very vaguely via the Beeb forum. However, DP heard the repeat today (he was in the car and couldn't be bothered to turn it off) and he came in all "that woman went ballastic WTF?" so I got him to update me.

Lizzie didn't get David to come over specially did she? Weren't they having some sort of party?

I am one of those who has listened for umpteen years, and am very sad that it all turned so soap opera.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/05/2011 17:38

He was aerating her grassland and she'd brought a special Orangery picnic hamper out to thank him for all his help. So he ended up crying under a tree with the remains of smoked salmon etc scattered sadly around. Sniff.... quite sorry for the silly chump.

midnightservant · 20/05/2011 17:43

I meant, in reply to Grendelsmum, that he didn't come over specially to take down the banner.

Ponders · 20/05/2011 17:58

no, you're right, it was a new year's party for the family

or most of the family...Kenton wasn't there. If he had been maybe he'd have gone up on the roof instead & they'd all have lived happily ever after

IloveJudgeJudy · 20/05/2011 21:05

Thanks, Ponders, for that info about Lizzie. I thought she was being unfair to David and didn't want to listen to his side at all. I can sort of understand it, but think it will lead to all sorts of problems within the larger family circle.

Ponders · 20/05/2011 21:38

Yes, I do too, JJ Sad

the whole SATTC thing was always going to be about the future family ramifications

but Ruth going to Jill about it was a good move to possibly pre-empt any of Lizzie's future poor little me rants

PrincessFiorimonde · 20/05/2011 23:17

David's a tosser (not least for confessing to Elizabeth).

However, we all know that Elizabeth's a tossette too.

Who's to choose between them?

carocaro · 21/05/2011 11:06

But at least Ruth got cross and gave him what for, am sick of her jolly dee constant brightsideness, she raised her voice at last HOOORAAAHHH!

A big family fall out, real life!

missthing · 21/05/2011 18:36

Thank God for Ruth screaming at him. I really want something to happen to make Lizzie see That Her Behaviour Is Not Acceptable. Maybe the ghost of Nigel coming back and giving her a slap. If she hadn't broken Nigel by being such a farkin NIGHTMARE he might have been able to tell dave he really didn't fancy dicking about on the roof. In the rain. And the dark. And the wind.

And I don't think it's ok she stole Roy.

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 21/05/2011 21:13

She's going to become totally dependent on Roy now, isn't she?

seeker · 22/05/2011 12:56

As I predicted in January, David will shortly top himself.

And Ruth will blame Lizzie. Entirely justifiably. Which puts mo on the same side as Ruth.

Damn.

Panzee · 22/05/2011 19:04

Ah it was you seeker! Well done. :)

GrimmaTheNome · 22/05/2011 19:23

No, I think David will have a mental breakdown - possibly attempt suicide, but they surely can't lose another major character this soon.

Things are certainly grim when its Neil who has to provide the light relief.

GrendelsMum · 22/05/2011 19:56

re. taking down the banner - David was already at LL that night, but he would have had to come over specially the next day, which anyone apart from the obsessively self-entitled Lizzie would have thought might be slightly incovenient, particularly given that Kenton was actually living with them and could help out any time. And given that they actually EMPLOY people whose job it is to work at LL, rather than relying on family to come over at all times of day and night.

DH is hoping that David will top himself and that Ruth and Pip will never speak to Lizzie again, but we've got concerns that it's too soon after Greg's suicide. In fact, we spent a happy evening going through our 2009 Archers' Character Directory and writing 'died horribly' against a whole range of names.

R4 · 22/05/2011 20:27

Whatever happens, I hope they keep up the Ambridge tradition of stringing stories out over a very loooooong time. This could play out in so many directions:

David commits suicide and we have Warring Widows.
The family splits between Lizzie'n'Kenton versus David'n'Shula - hence splitting the twins (who have never been that close tbh)
Lizzie becomes the Madwoman in the Attic, brings on financial ruin and loses the estate
Lizzie has her heart attack so David, as guardian, has to bring up Freddie and Lily, despite having killed both their parents
Freddie takes a shotgun to David (is he over the age of criminal responsibility yet?)

Any more?
