I'll start.

  1. Mothercare travel system which my mum bought us when I was pregnant the first time. Did everything. Disgusted at idea of spending £500 upwards for a pram
  1. Discovered the above went in the back of our clio but couldn't put anything else in so we got a petite star zia which lived in the car (I got a scenic less than a year later, after telling Dh it was either new buggy or new car)
  1. Wanted to face DD without her sitting in the car seat. Got M&P switch when she was 18m, just as I got pg with DS. I also had a O'baby zezu but sent it back as I didn't like it.
  1. Baby jogger city mini double, for toddler and new baby.
  1. M&P and zia difficult to push, too low down. WOndered if it was me being weak and feeble being very pregnant so got a £10 tesco value stroller to tide us over.
  1. All still difficult to push, can't push M&P with one hand with DS in pram and holding DD hand to go to park, so buy a bee+, which I love and IS the last one!

Tell me your journey!

For ds

Urban Detour three wheeler - Burgundy

Maclaren Quest Sport - Blue and Grey

Maclaren Quest Sport - Yellow and Grey

All in rubbish condition by the time we were finished.

For dd

Urban detour three wheeler - Black

Maclaren Quest Sport - Pink and grey

Maclaren Techno XLR stroller Pink and Coffee (pretty much out of it now but still in very good condition)

Got through so many because didn't have a car for most of their babyhood so used much more than average, clocked up a lot of mileage.

Disenchanted3 · 26/05/2010 20:24

Well over 100 in 5 yrs,

I have had 8 phil and teds alone

Lerato · 26/05/2010 20:24
  1. Mothercare travel system. £160 all in. 4 years and two children later and is still the only one I have. Have 4 slings / carriers though. Hate pushchairs - they get in the way so.
UniS · 26/05/2010 20:29

4

1 -mamas and papas pram/ pushcahir. On loan from a friend used it birth till 13 months, fantastic bit of kit,I missed it when she asked for it back.

but it was bulky hence

2- very cheap 2nd hand Maclaren buggy to take on holiday used from about 4 months till 13 months occasionally. Then shipped off to grandparents house when we were given

3- As I had to give back the M&P pram I was then given by another friend a 2nd hand McLaren something or other that was last years colours or too "boy" or some such other excuse for her to buy a pink shocker for impending baby girl. With a scrub up and a fleece liner added this lasted us till 3 yrs , then donated to surestart centre to be re-homed.

We still had
4 - A CTS Chariot bike trailer/ jogger combo. bought 2nd hand when boy was 6 months old, used regularly as a bike trailer and irregularly as an off road pushchair till boy was 4. Has just been passed on to my SiL for her baby.

Now pushchair less. I have asked for a wheelbarrow for my birthday, as I need something to collect gas bottles/ sacks of spuds/ other bulky stuff from around the village. I had to get rid of teh chariot or I'd have become like my mother, who kept my silver cross pushchair to use as shopping trolley till I was 18. ( I refused to be seen out with it after age 10)

littlelozz · 27/05/2010 11:56

lol my mum asked me this the other day

  1. Icandy Apple. Wanted a loola as only had a ford Ka and the Loola fitted but then decided to go to an independant retailer and saw the Icandy - fitted in my boot (just) and hubby liked it so got the works. Think it was about £600 and I didnt want to buy a bugaboo as it was expensive

  2. Petite Star Zia when DD1 was 6 months old. Just wanted something for the car that was a lot easier to get in the car.

  3. The Icandy Pear - just the bits to convert it for DD2 arriving.

  4. Maclaren Quest for spare and something easier to push while Pg. Was only £20 too and great condition.

  5. Double Obaby umbarella buggy for staying in the car. The Pear was a nightmare getting in and out so sold that when DD2 was 8 weeks. Loved the Apple but pear not as good

  6. Bugaboo Frog. Love, love love this! Was I think my fave one so far loved how cosy DD2 looked in it and was so light compared to the icandy. Used it as a travel system most of the time and have just sold it

  7. Baby Jogger City Micro - my last one for sure! Only had it 2 days but love it.

Now only have the BJCM and the Maclaren. Always wanted a Bugaboo so thats why I got one and then the pear and other double were practical reasons.
BJCM just because I was bored last Tuesday and bought it my mistake! Glad I did though.

1 second hand pram.
1 single Maclaren
1 'long' second hand double buggy which became too heavy and was replaced with:
1 side-by-side Maclaren.

So we only every bought two new Maclarens. Which went on and on for years.

Did someone really say they'd had over 100 buggies in 5 years??????!!!!!!????? Really???? Am astounded and interested and horrified all in one.

suiledonne · 27/05/2010 14:21
  1. Graco Mosaic Travel System bought new for dd1. Awful, hated it. Car seat too upright. Buggy too hard to push. Gave it away to a girl who couldn't afford any baby stuff
  1. Chicco Xplorer stroller - recommended by saleperson as a good light stroller for car but dd1 was too young for it really and slumpe too much so bought. Still have it. Used it til recently for dd1 as it suits an older child.
  1. Maclaren Quest - was very happy with it at the time. Still have it. Use it regularly
  1. Silver Cross Sleepover on Linear Chassis - wanted lie flat pram for dd2. Got a great deal on Kiddicare. Excellent in pram mode but didn't like it in pushchair mode at all. In the attic until we decide if we are having any more dc.
  1. Mamas and Papas 03 Sport - for walking on country roads etc. Love it. Have started using it around town now as find the Mac too rattly now we are used to air tyres
multimummy · 27/05/2010 14:25

Okay - this could be like that game "I went on holiday and in my suitcase I put...." for me!!! I will try to remember all.
1992
a 2nd hand "silver cross" corduroy body sprung huge thing - with no raincover - for a tenner out the charity shop before the arrival of dc1. (I really wanted a sprung mamas and papas thing - that was navy with fruit printed all over it - but it was soooo expensive!
a new maclaren bought for us by my mum - it had a "lay back" facility which was quite new and cost £45!!!
I saved up and bought dd a hideous in hindsight Hauck buggy that was pink and mint and had minnie mouse all over it!!! She was 8 months old before I could afford it. (I paid £85 for it - and sold it for £60 after 3 years of good use - it was pristine - I looked after it well!)
2001
DD2 - DH aquired a britax practicale sport italian collection thing - (through a trade contact) - with car seat and the works....
I didn't use it in the end - figured it was too heavy to use on the bus or train - so sold and put money towards a brand new Landrover with carrycot (I also got a tax rebate so that paid most of the bill!)...
Used it for around 18m.
Got given a maclaren techno (from DH's trade contact). Used for another 18m - then sold for about £45
2003
Discovered the interweb !!!
Discovered eBay!!!
Bought and imported a phil and teds prior to arrival of DD3 - they were not yet available in the UK - got stung over £100 on import duty - and about 6 weeks later they became available in the UK anyway (although I had paid about £20 less - even with the import duty).
HATED it - it was hard to push, hard to lift up kerbs. DD aged 2 undid the buckles from the harness (they weren't sewn on!!) and threw some away - she also pulled the cap from above the front wheel and threw it away. The mesh in the seat wore down to the string. DD also discovered she could halt the buggy by stamping her feet hard on the fabric footwell and applying pressure to the front wheel from above - extremely inconvenient and caused me to trip up a lot!!!
Sold this (for virtually what I paid) and bought a display model bertini bidwell - plus toddler seat. Sold when I realised DD2 was so huge she was going to tip it over with DD3 in it! (by rocking violently back and forth in the toddler seat)! sold for what I paid
Bought a 2nd hand double wayfarer - was fab - and sold for around £30 more than I paid.
Got a bebe confort trophy air and had dd3 in the seat and dd2 on the footrest. Was good - but sooo big! sold for profit
Bought a mamas and papas sherpa - that was also good (if not garish - bright purple and yellow!!!)....sold for profit
bought baby jogger twinner 2 (for £15 off ebay) used a while - sold for profit)
and another - sold for profit
a couple of single wayfarers - tidied up - tightened bolts - oiled etc. sold
a maclaren volo for £25 in sale
a maclaren triumph - was not great - back rest would not stay upright enough - sold for a bit less than I paid.
2008 - ds on way - easylife sport - plus toddler seat incase (despite dd3 being 4y - because we did a lot of walking....)
sold for what I paid.
another babyjogger twinner 2 - sold for profit
silver cross pram (grosvenor) used for a year - sold when ds got too big for what I paid.
Maclaren techno xt - sold for small loss - got horrendous back ache pushing it.
Baby jogger city elite and toddler seat(selling due to new mutsy - will sell for loss) love it but ds can't face me in it.
baby jogger city mini - incase I needed to use the bus - sat in cupboard little used - sold for loss.
micralite fastfold and all the bits - didn't think I'd need it after purchase of new mutsy (regretting already) sold for loss
Mutsy 4 rider + fun seat + deluxe seat - only had for 2 days - LOVE THIS ONE (watch this space!).
Considering if I need a bee for bus/train. I thought I could use the mutsy but it won't lock closed with seat on (I thought it would - the mutsy website suggests this!!!).... so not sure how I could manage it on the bus now.

multimummy · 27/05/2010 14:28

Forgot - I had an instep nipper 360 at one point too - but got terrible back folding and lifting it in and out of house on daily basis. sold for what I paid.
Must say - that's not so many prams as I thought I'd had!

multimummy · 27/05/2010 14:30

Oh - and I briefly had a mura 4 too. sold for what I paid.
and a loola - sold for what I paid too.

XboxWidow30 · 27/05/2010 14:45

Multimummy, I love the discovered interweb and discovered ebay bit. Thats where it went all downhill for me too, lol!!!

  1. Graco Mosiac One bought before DS was born. This actually did us really well. I liked that you could put the car seat on it although I didn't do that too often. However, by the time he was about 18 months old he looked really squashed in it (he's very broad) so bought
  2. Mothercare Jive? I think. The cheapest one you can get basically. Thought that we wouldn't need too many bells and wistles now that he was older. Big mistake! It's really not up to everyday use and was a bugger to push so decided to spend a bit more and got...
  3. Silvercross Pop. Not a bad pushchair but I find the seat base very short so DS always looks like he's slipping out. And the hood is too low so DS hates it. But it'll do, it doesn't get used very much anymore anyway.

Really should have just bought a Maclaren in the first place!

TulipsInTheSunshine · 27/05/2010 15:09

just 2 for all three kids. dd and ds1 are 18 months apart and ds1 and ds2 are 2.5 years apart and i never bothered with a twin.

1 - a Cosotto travel system when dd was due as it was affordable, sturdy, had a car seat with it and was neutral in colour without being pale neough to stain.

2 - when ds1 was 11 month i bought a lightwight Cosotto Hula as we were planning a holiday and i needed a lighter buggy to travel with and it was on sale (never got the holiday but still glad i got the buggy)

ds2 uses both equally although we don't use them much as i tend to sling or carry unless i've got to carry something or we're going for a long slog around the shops (very rare!) Still think i've had pretty good value for money out of both of them though. If i could have afforded it i would have bought a pram for him before he was born as i wanted something he could sleep in comfortably inside and out but decided i couldn't afford it in the end.

TheNextMrsDepp · 27/05/2010 22:11

Have any of you actually worked out how much you spent on pushchairs? Could have paid for prep school!

sweetkitty · 27/05/2010 22:19

Graco travel system - hated it
Maclaren XT - still got it
M&P twin aria - for DD2 coming along it was rubbish
Graco tandem
P&T Sport - when DD3 came along
M&P Luna
M&P LunaMix
Hauck Infinity
P&T Vibe for DS

Reallytired · 27/05/2010 22:21

First child
2)Secondhand silver cross pram £10. It was good for the baby stage, but very heavy. Unfortunately it got damaged in the loft by squirrels.

Cheap Maclaren which fell appart after a year

Another Maclaren.

Second Child

M+P prammette bought second hand for £60. It was immaculate. It was great for the baby stage and does fold up nicely. Unfortunately its forward facing.

Maxi Cosi Mura 3. Great for the snow and has lovely big wheels. Unfortunately it is quite heavy and bulky.

We use the Maclaren that we bought for the first child in our car.

I think the prammette in pushchair mode will be good when my daughter is old enough to want to be forward facing all the time.

multimummy · 28/05/2010 07:58

The sale of the previous one has always paid for the next one in my case. Some have been bought for the purpose of doing up for profit. Some i've bought for a tenner and sold for £200! Certainly not enough spent to pay for prep school.

SambuccaKelly · 28/05/2010 08:03

DS:

Jane Matrix something or other - heavy, clunky, horrible car seat.

Replaced it with a bog standard MacClaren stroller as soon as DS could sit up. Went through three of them before he started walking.

DD:

Secondhand M&P Pliko pramette from birth. Great winter buggy as very cosy.

Got a MacClaren Techno at about 5 months, when weather warmed up. Interchange with Pramette depending on where we're going (MacClaren easier to fold/carry, so good for that sort of journey).

Have just replaced with a lightweight MacClaren stroller, as finding others too heavy with a chunky 18 mth old in.

weegiemum · 28/05/2010 08:04
  1. A Maclaren something which was on offer at Mothercare. About £65 I think (10 years ago).

Lasted fine until we had to get

  1. Maclaren Major for dd2 at 5 years old. Got it from OT so didn't cost.
  1. Also had small umbrella fold tiny one that cost £10 in Argos for going on holiday.

3 kids. Total pushchair spend £75 plus an umbrella for dd2 to hold in the Major.

weegiemum · 28/05/2010 08:06

I did spend £135 on a really good backpack though ....

EasilyConfusedIndith · 28/05/2010 08:12

Oh my word some of you get through a lot of pushchairs!

I've had a Loola which MIL got us for dc1. Always hated it. I bought a McLaren when ds was about 9 months. Sold the Loola when pg with dc2 and bought a P&T. That's it and I certainly don't intend to buy any more!

TheNextMrsDepp · 28/05/2010 21:26

Multimummy, I think you're onto something! Clearly there are plenty of mums out there all too keen to be parted with their money due to the lure of the latest model. Pushchair trading - buy 'em, do 'em up, sell 'em on - I could make millions!

roslily · 30/05/2010 19:26

Well we were given a graco, but the car seat was danaged and the seat mouldy (I did try and clean it)

So at 37 weeks pregnant I went shopping and bought a Bebe confort streety as we had a fiat panda! Once ds arrived we realised how impractical tint car was so got bigger car.

When he was 4 months old got an off-roader (£30 secind hand) as we did loads of walking, and sold streety. Dh has always hated streety.

The after 2 months realised that off-roader was no good for buses or around town as so wide, so bought lightweight umbrella from Mothercare.

But it didn't fit in car so have just swapped that for a Herbie. Which will be my last one.
