I'll start.

  1. Mothercare travel system which my mum bought us when I was pregnant the first time. Did everything. Disgusted at idea of spending £500 upwards for a pram
  1. Discovered the above went in the back of our clio but couldn't put anything else in so we got a petite star zia which lived in the car (I got a scenic less than a year later, after telling Dh it was either new buggy or new car)
  1. Wanted to face DD without her sitting in the car seat. Got M&P switch when she was 18m, just as I got pg with DS. I also had a O'baby zezu but sent it back as I didn't like it.
  1. Baby jogger city mini double, for toddler and new baby.
  1. M&P and zia difficult to push, too low down. WOndered if it was me being weak and feeble being very pregnant so got a £10 tesco value stroller to tide us over.
  1. All still difficult to push, can't push M&P with one hand with DS in pram and holding DD hand to go to park, so buy a bee+, which I love and IS the last one!

Tell me your journey!

Blimey! Have had one, because I felt like I ought to before ds1 was born. It's rarely used.

Now carriers....

suzie38 · 31/07/2010 12:15

I've had quite a few...Some are from my paper delivering days and 3 i found for free...
1...Silvercross Voyager pram off eBay.
2...Bugaboo Frog off eBay
3...Britax Ultra system (papers)
4...Maxi Cosi Citi cx off eBay
5...Silver Cross Wayfarer (papers but now been dumped at recycling center)
6...Silver Cross Wayfarer Lite off eBay but not lite and DD doesn't like it much.
7...Maclaren Superdreamer brand new from a charity shop.
8...Maclaren Quest off eBay
9...Maclaren slightly older than the Quest (left at in laws)
10...M&P Freestyler £3 from a car boot, used for papers when pregnant as it was so light to put in car and push (at in laws)
11...Cosatto Rapido (papers)
12...M&P Pulse i found dumped in our courtyard (at my parents)
13...Red Castle 3 wheeler left at my parents recycling center, now been dumped.
14...Chicco stroller, also a found one.
15...Graco Citisport, my all time favorite as so nippy, £8 from a car boot
16...Graco Metrosportx2 1st one refused to fold so bought a 2nd off eBay...Great for days out as light and nippy with a tray.
17...Phil and Teds Smart off eBay
18...Bugaboo Bee Plus off eBay...1st buggy i've had a box with!!!

Can't see me reaching 100 though...I'm going to Snunkie my Bee, and with the exception of a BJCM maybe next year, it'll be my last though saw the new Quinny Zapp today and the Quinny Senzz appeals also...Try to sell/get rid of some of my collection but i hate parting with them as most have specific uses.

faddle · 31/07/2010 13:40

probably close to 30 pushchairs, all except the first, and a recent bee plus have been second hand.
My rationale is usually "because I feel like it" which is not really rational as such, but works for me.
Other half tolerates this as I only ever have 1 at once, and because I always make back at least what I paid for it when I sell it on.

huffythethreadslayer · 31/07/2010 13:47

My niece has had 13 in 14 months! She's done a few Quinny models, a few Maclarens and currently has a juicy model?? I don't get it myself.

I had 1 3-in-1 system when dd was born which was the standard pushchair and completely impractical and we only used thd baby seat. Then we bought 2 umbrella pushchairs, both cheap and cheery, for going on hols, one was second hand, one was from Babies R Us. That was it. And if the second hand pushchair hadn't fallen apart, we'd never have bothered with the third model!

Jojay · 31/07/2010 14:01
  1. Second hand Graco travel system. i knew nothing about pushchairs and thougth it would be fine. It was awful. The carseat was too upright and ds's head lolled about, and the buggy was rattly and generally horrid.
  1. Bought a Babies R Us own brand stroller which was ok, but nothing special. The handles are disintegrating and DH irrationally hates it with a passion so I'll probably chuck it soon.
  1. Got pg with ds2 so bought a P&T sport. Great to push but heavy to lug in and out of car, so when Ds1 started walking everywhere I bought.......
  1. A Baby Jogger City Mini - a £65 bargain in Argos's clearance sale. it's fab and the one I use all the time.
  1. I've just conceived DC3 and once we get past the 12 wk scan stage I will buy a Mutsy 3 rider from a friend. It's got a carrycot and I want a really comfy pram for the new baby as I'll be doing lots of school runs by then.

I love 3 wheelers and wouldn't have a 4 wheeler now

LilyBolero · 31/07/2010 14:05

OMG at some of these!!!

Seriously - how do you have 30/50/100 pushchairs???

I had;

Britax travel system - wheels that carrycot/carseat/pushchair attachment fit on to. Still in use with dc4. We also used the carrycot for sleeping in. The only bit that didn't have great usage was the pushchair attachment. Altogether (including car-seat) was about £300.

Maclaren umbrella pushchair - can't remember the name, but was the one everyone had 9 years ago. That one got eaten by a train door which snapped off the wheel, but the railway company replaced it with an identical one. Was about £60.

Graco double buggy - great with ds1 and dd. Unused with the others as the age gap was too big. Was bargain in ToysRus - about £60!

My mum then bought my Maclaren off me to keep at her house so we didn't need to take a buggy, and I bought a Maclaren Techno. It is still going strong! It was about £80.

So 4 (or 5 if you count the one destroyed by the train), for 4 children. The pram (Britax) is still in absolutely perfect condition and would do another 10 children I think! It's 9 years old, but it's interesting how many people remark on how 'old-fashioned' it is. But it is a fabulous pram to push!

TheDuchessOfNorks · 31/07/2010 14:21

Anyone who has had more than 3 pushchairs needs a real hobby or a job or summat.

:loonies:

LilyBolero · 31/07/2010 17:12

Have remembered the name, was Maclaren Daytripper.

faddle · 01/08/2010 09:34

best way I can explain it is like a shoe or bag fetish? I love pushchairs like some people love handbags, and because it doesnt actually cost me any money (I usually make a profit when selling on as I have cleaned it up etc) I dont see any reason why not really.
I only have 1 handbag, which I use until it falls apart and then buy another one, and I dont really get why some women buy new bags every other week etc, but hey, if that makes you happy then go for it. Same with shoes, I have a pair each of practical outdoor boots, smart boots, ballet pumps and a pair of flipflops. Any more would just be silly IMO, but lots of people have hundreds of pairs of shoes, and thats seen as quite a common female obsession.
Just speaking to people (in my job I talk to a lot of new mums) you would be surprised how common it is for a woman to have many different prams, either because she is trying to find the perfect one, or just because she wants a change.

xkaylax · 01/08/2010 09:43

I did quite well just had a bugaboo chameleon til DS was nearly 3 then just got a zapp for long trips etc
Didnt see the point in spending a fortune on all buggies etc as the bugaboo was perfect
and i looked after it, still in good condition.

spent a fortune on accesories for chameleon though

huffythethreadslayer · 01/08/2010 11:16

I think faddle makes a good point. It's personal choice. I don't get that my niece has needed to buy 13 pushchairs for her daughter, but she probably wouldn't understand my desire to pay off my mortgage quicker than I have to.

We're all different.

And pushchairs are perhaps the young mum's alternative to handbags and shoes. In which case, I still don't personally get it, but I accept that others will. And if you can make a bob or two out of it during the process, good luck to you

rusmum · 02/08/2010 09:08

1- DD! Chicco XT big big pushchair- bought as was cheap and had no interest in prams! (lol) Got rid at about 3 months due to weight and size.

2- Techno XT - frame warped so returned.

3 m and p aria hated it to cheapy looking,,

4 - m and p pliko ( MOST CONSTANT, only got rid last week after 5 years!)

5 pink combi dash as was small for hols still have for dd2 as dgp puahchair

6 mothercare stroller same reason

DD2 started in the pliko

7 and 8 Bugaboo frog ( as i wanted a posh pram) didnt like bucket seat though) - i did sell and buy another! SO HAVE HAS 2. LOL

Tweetinat · 02/08/2010 12:45

Three:

  1. Bugaboo Bee - absolutely loved it and then I saw the new model which led to...
  1. Bugaboo Bee Plus - bought with 20% off and 8% cashback so cost me less than what I sold my Bee for
  1. Secondhand Micralite Fastfold for holidays at my Mums (which is in the country) as the Bee just doesn't handle shingle/gravel and big bumps well.

Both prams are perfect for what I need them for. Live in a village with no roads, so drive everywhere and mainly use the pram in the (v. busy touristy) town centre. Bee is exactly what I need - comfy for DS, light to get in and out of the car with one piece fold and a dream to push around the city.

When I (rarely) go for walks in the country like on holiday, I've got the Fastfold which has lovely pneumatic rear wheels but still folds down small enough to pop in the car and take on the plane (maybe not all Airlines though).

Tweetinat · 02/08/2010 12:47

Oh, just to add I sold my Bee for more than what I paid for too, as I also bought with 20% disc + cashback when it was at a reduced price anyway.

So upgrading and getting a 'third' hasn't cost a penny

Rockbird · 02/08/2010 12:55
  1. iCandy Apple - my pfb pram, fantastic with the car seat (bad mummy), DD hated the carrycot and was heavy with the seat unit to keep lugging in and out of the boot so put it aside (still have it) for;

  2. Techno XT - charcoal, great buggy, loved it. Only sold it to get a;

  3. Techno XT - black, much preferred this colour, use this most days.

  4. Babywelt Moon Kiss - really liked this, identical to a Zia. But I found I was stooping when pushing it and am only 5' 2! So sold it.

  5. Bee 1 - Loved it, used it for ages but DD started to outgrow the straps so sold it and the next day regretted it and bought;

  6. Bee 2 - . Still have it, love it, don't use it so much but DD does still fit into it.

  7. Silver Cross Pop - bit of an impulse buy, am thinking of selling it as it's only been used half a dozen times.

  8. M&P Luna - really liked this. Was SIL's and bought it off her. Then gave it away on here . Must have been insane!

So 8 in just under three years. Still want another Luna though and am considering the Triumph in Majesty (love the purple) but need to sell the Pop.

Alicetheinvisible · 02/08/2010 12:57

DD is now 2.9yrs and awaiting the arrival of dc2.

We have had 1 pushchair. A Mclaren MX3 that my mum got for us (ex display) I was tempted by getting a smaller stroller as ours is a giant 3 wheeler but we haven't the room for more than one buggy and ours is still going strong so will do for dc2 too. We have got a buggy board to go on it too.

theyoungvisiter · 02/08/2010 13:05
  1. Microlite that went from birth - toddler. Bought when DS1 was a bump. Loved it and still have it.

  2. When DS2 was born we got a Phil and Ted's which is very practical but we no longer really need a double so it's falling into disuse. Currently on extended loan to friends.

  3. Considering investing in a Maclaren in order to take a buggy board as DS1 can't always manage the walk home from school, and the microlite can't take a buggy board. But haven't taken the plunge yet!

MumNWLondon · 02/08/2010 13:11

Am genuinely surprised at the number of buggies people seem to use.

We have used.

  1. jane carerra - bought in 2003 for DD
  2. maclaren triumph bought 2004 for DD
  3. maclaren twin traveller bought 2004 for DD and nanny share child
  4. maclaren triumph 2 bought for £1 because maclaren were testing website and didn't notice it was actually taking orders!!!! - for DS1.

DS2 now using buggy 1. He will use buggy 4 when he can sit up. Buggy 2 in attic we use for holidays as its not in good condition. I freecycled buggy 3 when I no longer needed it - after using it for nanny share and for DD and DS1 and lending it to a friend it would not have been worth more than £10.

theyoungvisiter · 02/08/2010 13:13

yes I think there's definitely a divide between the people who buy a pram only when strictly necessary, and the people who buy for fun

Personally I can think of far, far better things to spend my hard-earned on (ie moi) but horses for course.

letsblowthistacostand · 02/08/2010 13:54

Would probably have had more but stopped by sensible DH:

1)horrible mothercare pram given us when we couldn't decide what to get before DD1 was born
2)Techno XT, still have it!
3)Giant ridiculous 3-wheeler, got really sick of trying to get it around the shops and sold it
4)Pliko Switch, part of me still loves this buggy but you can not push it with one hand so I am trying to sell it
5)Joovy Caboose Ultralight-moved to the US and got this as we didn't have to walk anywhere. Sold it for almost what we paid
6)Baby Jogger fixed-wheel double. Lovely pushchair but too big so sold it when we moved back to the UK. Was a floor model so got what we paid
7)P&T Vibe, still have
8) and final! have just bought Bee+ with buggy board, am very excited to pick it up tomorrow!

ATM we have 4 & are selling one so will have 3, I don't think that's too many!

Cheaper than a new Maclaren

theyoungvisiter · 02/08/2010 14:02

Swoon!!!! Thank you Tweet!

Well I never - you learn something new every day. That must be new since I bought my micralite.

[sidles off to ebay]

Meglet · 02/08/2010 14:03

I am almost hyperventilating in shock at the amount of money some of you have spent on pushchairs !

We have had, since 2006..

Mothercare beige Urban Detour 3 wheeler, still going strong despite the fact we walk everywhere.

Cheapy Argos stroller. Loathe it, won't even push it to the end of the street. It lives, unsed, in the car boot in case of breakdown emergencies.

Phil & Teds sport. Only 2 years old and pretty battered but will last us just fine for the next 18 months or so until DS will no longer need it.

Mothercare Urban Detour double. Off e-bay. I loved it . But DS was too big to justify it anymore so I sold it on. Wonderful to walk with.

MumNWLondon · 02/08/2010 14:05

We have a buggy board on our maclaren and I would not recommend it at all. Very uncomfortable to push need to sort of lean over.

You might find it better to get your P&T back and let him jump in if he gets tired.

Micralight do their own buggy board but it might not fit their older buggies.

mamatomany · 02/08/2010 15:58

Well bearing in mind DS, 4th child is only 6 weeks old.

  1. Bertini with carrycot, bought one of these 10 years ago when it was literally a choice between this and a mamas and papas, green with cherries on it Anyway, love this pram, have had about 7 of them because whenever i sell it I want it straight back which is getting harder to do these days. Cost me £65 and it's fantastic.

A mamas and papas pramette, I'm not counting this though because I sold it after three weeks, hated it, ricketty and seemed to tilt the baby backwards.

2 Stokke, with everything I love it but it's just no good where we live, the roads are the problem not the pram, but I'm keeping it.

  1. Loola, this is my car pram, has the maxi cosy adapters, carrycot and is lovely but I'm going to have to sell it as the Stokke has been relegated to the car pram and I don't think you can have two really.
  1. Mountain Buggy. Thinking ahead, I will never buy a maclaren type buggy because they have buggered my back over the years pushing them so this is what we'll use when DS is a huge 4 year old lump and won't walk on holidays or needs containing.
