How many pushchairs have you got?

There doesn't seem to be a product that fits every scenario single handedly (town/beach/country/shopping/baby facing mum/durable/lightweight/fits in car boot) etc.
So how many pushchairs do you have - and what are they best used for?

one double and two singles. I am a childminder but even if I wasn't, I reckon I'd still have far too many prams

Bugaboo Frog - for rough terrian (is that spelt wrong, my mac has underlined it?), also it is my pram I used for DS1 and it has sentimental value so not getting rid

im now down to two the least i've had for a long while!!

i have nipper for park, football, beach etc and black mac xt for everything else. Suits me now my youngest is 2.3yr im growing out of my obsession!

we have one and only one

had a carrycot for when dd was tiny so she laid flat and faced us
has a seat now she is bigger
works in town (has swivel front wheel so turns in own length)
works in country (is 3wheeler with large wheels and suspension)
is built like a tank
is not so heavy I can't lift it
fits in boot
works well with buggyboard for second child

we looked at our lifestyle and made compromises accordingly rather than trying to have one for every occasion - I mean it goes on the beach abou once a year
so
no beach tyres
dd facing away from us over 9m
doesn;t fold samll enough to be easy on buses

but we can live with that - when she was small we used a sling and/or backpack when bigger she walked

there is not one that is perfect for every occasion
but it is up to you whether that means a) you need multiple pushchairs, or b) accepting that sometimes you won;t have the absolutely ideal tool for the job.

I have not bought pushchairs to use for different occasions but I have had some bad luck getting one to meet my needs.

To begin with I had a 2nd hand M&P Ziko Frankie - This was a beauiful looking umbrella pushchair but fell apart very soon after it came to me (it was about 2 yrs old).

I bought a Britax Vigour 3 as I don't drive and lived in the countryside but that didn't mmeet my needs very well either. I was big bulky and awkward to fold down (2 parts). The seat unit was not big enough for DS who was 18 months and the bloody thing is still in the garage.

I then got a Maclaren Volo. Lightweight relatively easy to push on smooth pavements but my DS was a big boy and he was just over two when it got uncomfortable to push him in it. Not driving meant I still walked further and for longer than he could cope with so...

I bought a Baby Jogger City Mini - I wish I had had it forever. It is brilliant. Pushes like a dream even on the odd occasion my DS is in it now (he is 3.4). This buggy copes with rough ground although obviously not proper offroading. It had a brilliant huge hood and a comfy big seat.

I just wish I had had this one from the beginning!

Currently 3. A M&P Twin Pulse, a M&P single Nipi and an ABC Zoom Tandem which I haven't gotten around to selling yet.

At one point it was 5. Have sold the Maclaren Twin Triumph I didn't like and the Quinny Zapp I had for the sole purpose of using as chassis for the Maxi Cosi Cabrio.

I am trying to resisit buying a cheap rear-facing pushchair and a buggy board, which I have been telling myself I need.

I only have one pushchair.

a Maclaren Techno XT - has been perfect for DS

It suits everything I want, is slim and light, folds up easily and fits in the car boot (with room for a full Sainsbury's shop too.) and doesn't take up lots of room in our little house.

I will be using it with a buggy board soon, as number two is due in the next couple of weeks, and it reclines fully so when the new baby is out of the sling they will be able to go in my current pushchair without the need to buy another.

Did have a britax travel system to begin with but hated it so much that I ditched it very quickly. because it was too bulky, too heavy and needed too much storage space. Wish we had never bought it and gone for the Maclaren first time round.

I have only ever had one pushchair (done both DSs) - it's a Stokke Xplory and has been brilliant for me. It doesn't do sand very well and mud does get stuck round the wheels but it generally suits me brilliantly as I don't walk very well and it supports me when I'm out. Goodness knows what I'm going to do when DS2 grows out of it!

I have 4 - 2 doubles and two singles.

First Wheels City Twin as I love parent facers and carry cots for babies so that fulfilled that but not keen on the seats that tilt rather than recline and small hoods.

Phil & Ted E3 which I HATE but won't get rid of as if I need to visit my mum on the bus (she lives in another town with really crappy old buses so wont take the FWCT) but it was only £30 with cosy toes and carry cot so not a total loss.

Loola UP I really like this pushchair as it does everything I have ever wanted in a pushchair - light, small/freestanding when folded, great recline, can fit a newborn or a big 3 year old, huge hood, takes a buggy board and has a good sized basket.

Safety 1st Surf for elder/middle dd when camping/days out when boot space is at premium but couldn't use it full time as no basket or hood fine for occasional use though.

I have had a Hauck Infinity (loved but sold to buy loola up), MacLaren Quest (ok but didn't like small basket or recline), Alu-rax double off Ebay then took down tip when I found it was rusted though and my 16 month old was too tall for the seat .

In use:
Maclaren Techno XT for everyday use
Quinny Buzz for walking on more rugged terrain

Hibernating:
Petite Star Zia. Handles are too low for me, but my mum likes to use it when she looks after my son.
Peg Perego. Monster pram that now lives in the loft.

RIP: Mamas and Papas Aria - Gave away to a friend. Handles too low.

Bugaboo Cameleon for most of the time
MacLaren Techno for Holidays/Trains/Buses

One now, a silver cross stroller. There was a time when I had 5 buggy's at one time

Had one 3-wheeler with swivel wheel and lightweight frame for girls when they were small then from about 1yo a light-weight umbrella fold for ease of taking on transport when needed.

I still used the three-wheeler more but umbrella fold was useful for planes, tubes, escalators and when boot space tight etc.

The umbrella fold eventually fell apart and we're back to 3-wheeler only but dd2 is 3.5 now so used a couple of times a month at most.

Well, I've got a double baby jogger in the garage - that I prob ought to sell - but I did buy it with the thought that my friend and I were going to start running together - and we would be able to do this when the kids were at school and our babies were in the baby jogger (we both have babies approx 18m old)!.....so far we've talked plenty about the running but not done any!

Then I have a Mura 4 - in daily use for the school run - the pavements in my locality are pretty rough - so anything with little wheels just isn't that good....

I have loola for weekend outings with the family (because we have 4 kids and the mura won't fit in our zafira anywhere once the kids are all in their seats! I can't use this one every day as it really really doesn't feel right reversing it - and it needs to be reversed up a slope and some steps to get into our house - I think it might break if I did it daily with the loola (only has single back wheels that "splay" out if you reverse - has anyone else noticed this effect?)...

I have a tiny (only cost £25!) old volo - that I lend to the grampies if they need to borrow (for visitors or carrying picnics/coats for my lot - they never take the baby)... It wouldn't be worth much if I sold it - and it's the only one they can cope with the folding system on (simple)!

FWIW I don't have a car myself for daily use (haven't even passed my test yet anyhow), and I walk 6 miles daily for the school run -also in kids holidays we mostly use public transport so I need the loola for that too).

I just feel quite guilty about having more than 1 pushchair sometimes - I have tried (bought and sold a LOT - at least 50! - but mostly 2nd hand or on bargain sale) loads and this is what I have now....

I also use slings when I can but the last 5 months my back has been so bad (dr thinks maybe slipped disc) and having tried wraps and mei tais - sometimes I can get away with them - but other times I can barely stand up straight - and I still have to go out for the school run - having a pushchair to hang onto can help a bit.

Ten10 Good on you managing with the XT alone - if it had fit in my car boot - I maybe could have lived with this one - except for the fact that it wouldn't go in the boot - and DS hated not seeing my face! It is indeed a lovely and lightweight pram! (I sold mine to a friend - so I still see it every day )

Oh, and we do off-road a fair bit at weekends - so I'm not sure what to do about that - the loola is fine for moderate off-road - but we do live near beaches and forests - so sometimes I have to walk along the footpath near the beach while my hubby and kids are walking along the pebbles near the water.... which is why I was contemplating the micralite - but I wouldn't want to use the micralite ALL the time because of DS facing away - which he hates atm.... it would probably go most places at weekends but for whole days outings (and we do those too) he wouldn't have much comfort for his naps - or see me as oft as he's used to in he mura or loola....

So - like Mrs Badger said - I either compromise and not necessarily have the perfect tool for the job - or I will have more than one pushchair.

I guess more pushchairs is still cheaper than:
A: me having a car/roadtax/insurance to pay and 1 buggy that does all (and fits in the car!).
B: A bigger Family car (for more boot space.
C: A roof box permanently on the car (which makes for extra fuel consumption due to wind resistance dh reckons)!

I candy pear, my favourite ever buggy, it just ticks every single box for me! just a pita to ram in the boot of a 106

Maclaren twin techno, nice double but mighty hefty to push when used to pear!

Maclaren techno xt, the best stroller there is.

Loola, nice compact parent facer that fits the same carseat as my pear.

All my buggys have there uses, the two maclarens are the least used though!

One in the car, and then we have a lobby that just houses spare carseat, infant carseat and buggys, oh and a freezer, we are moving in a month, think i may have to sell atleast one as ill have no hidey hole for them!

I have two - a Bugaboo Gecko, which I use for everything. It probably wouldn't be great on public transport but I don't use public transport (I live in a rural market town so there's nowhere to go on a bus). Since I don't drive, I walk everywhere with it so I've found it ideal. Not sure how well it will work out with a buggy board when DC2 is here though.

I bought a Maclaren Volo as well because although the Gecko fits in our boot OK, it was a tight fit when we were going on holiday. I'm not sure it was worth it though since the few times we've used it, we could have carried her just as easily. We have a back carrier which is just as good for travelling.
