Does this tandem pushchair exist?

Looking for a tandem pushchair where the toddler seat lasts over 15kg.

My toddler is already over 15kg but I need a pushchair that holds both toddler and infant.

I thought I was sorted with a second hand silver cross wave, which is birth to 25kg but on further inspection of the details, it's only 25kg when used as a single stroller, it's 15kg + 9kg when used for toddler and infant duo.

Is there a (not too expensive) tandem or double pushchair which works for a bigger toddler?

Mountain buggy duet? Goes to about 20kg in each seat I think. I have it and really rate it

pushchairtandem · 11/05/2023 14:34

Ah yes, I saw that and the price was a bit steep but forgot to check secondhand! Thanks!

Also, due to where we live, if there's a tandem one, it would be preferred.

I loveeeee my mountain buggy duet.

Bought it second hand for about £200 and it's made my life so much easier with 2 kids.

The only annoying thing is putting the car seat on is a bit faffy, but I use it mostly for walks anyway.

It says single pram width, that can't be right? How wide is it in relation to a standard pram?

It means the wheelbase is the same width as the single mountain buggies. The single mountain buggies have a seat narrower than than the wheels, while the duet has a seat the same width as the wheels. So only the seat part is wider, but it still fits through the same doors/gaps etc.

Ahhh ok thanks for clarifying. So it's still wider than a standard. It's so frustrating that my LO has just gone over 15kg so buying one of the tandem ones would be a waste 😣

I think the Uppababy Vista goes to 22kg in toddler seat - not sure about weight limit on second seat.

pushchairtandem · 11/05/2023 15:18

Brilliant, will look into that one - thank you!

I will say they're not cheap but there are a lot of them available secondhand for more reasonable prices.

Lockdownmummy · 11/05/2023 15:37

Would be good to know what you mean by where you live needs a tandem?

Also love my duet and there hasn't been anywhere I've not fitted (buses, corner shop etc)

I've found a few nearby. I can see the toddler seat is 22kg, but not sure if it stays at that weight allowance with a carrycot added (if you get what I mean)

The silvercross wave is 25kg toddler seat, but actually in tandem it is 15kg and 9kg carrycot.

I can't find anything yet to tell me about the uppababy to confirm.

The streets I need to go down have those metal bike stopping things down the alley to walk the dog, so would be difficult/not possible to move a double buggy down them if too wide.

Current pram is 47cm wide and sometimes difficult to manoeuvre. The mountain duet is 63cm 😕

We have a vista and my understanding is that you can use the bassinet and toddler seat in tandem to their maximum weight limits. Using both at the same time does not reduce the weight limits each can safely hold.

Lockdownmummy · 11/05/2023 17:49

@pushchairtandem argh those things should be banned! That and bloody kissing gates to get into a park

rfr · 11/05/2023 17:56

Bugaboo donkey goes up to 22kg and still is really light to push. They are horribly expensive, but I have a toddler, a newborn and a 4 year old on the buggy board as well so I wanted the lightest buggy to push

Really? That's good to know as I might have found one! I thought it was about weight on the chassis.

I have found one called baby jogger city select 2 which may be suitable.

I found an icandy peach 3 but doesn't seem like it will work.

So annoying! Although I actually think I may have seen double buggies go down there so maybe... the dog doesn't make it easier.

Cybex Gazelle double (tandem) - 2x 22kg seats.

My daughter has twins (8 months) and a 3 yr old.

She sometimes has one twin in a sling and her other two in the pushchair. Sometimes, both twins in the pushchair and other child on an attached Roma Uptown rider.

I had an oyster max tandem, no idea on the weight limits but I quite liked it and it wasn't really wide

It's lovely! But up to 15kg 😔

I have no idea what weight it went up to but I used the mountain buggy duet until nearly 4, it's a chunky/robust pram, I'm pretty sure you could use it well beyond what it says and be fine. I wouldn't be so fixated on weight limits I can't say I've ever looked up a pram weight limit and I have 3 kids, as long as it isn't a cheap lightweight thing and has enough room for your oldest to sit comfortably I'd say it's fine.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/05/2023 20:54

I had this problem 11 years ago. I put the baby in a sling and carried on using the buggy for the preschooler.
