Give me one for reason why I shouldn't buy a pram that costs more than our car?

PFB is due in spring next year.

Today DP and I ventured into John Lewis to have a look at the prams and kind of fell in love with the Silver Cross Dune Dream - price tag of £1,430.

Our car cost £1,200 2 years ago 🥴

I used to be absolutely obsessed with the stokke prams and thought I'd got over that, now I'm back in silly price land.

GAH, help me!!

Because you could spend the cash on a really wanky handbag.....

And it's a very ordinary looking bugaboo rip off

Because it’s not even nice 😣 was expecting it to be much better.

Sounds like you bought a car for transport and protection from the elements. I presume it fills the brief and you're happy with it.
In that vein, it's just a pram. For transporting your baby, keeping said baby warm and dry.
A much cheaper one would fill the brief too.

Bugaboo fox is nearly £500 cheaper!

It's not worth it. If you use a car it'll be a hefty pain to get in and out of the boot. If you mostly walk you might get more use out of it, but in that case you'd do better with something with larger wheels. Either way you'll have changed to a light-weight buggy by the time the baby is eight or nine months.

If you do buy it, you should definitely be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. I just looked it up and got lower prices.

I have 4 dc and was obsessed with prams! I had a brand new one each time and even replaced some just because i saw a nicer one! It's your pfb so go for it, enjoy the moment! You can always sell it later and get some of the money back.

Strongly recommend looking second hand. Pram prices are SO inflated - and there’s a very active second hand market on Facebook marketplace and eBay. Give them a go first, so you’re at least not throwing money away!

I know the feeling, for sure. And I know it’s so nice to have new things for your PFB! But babies are really expensive and lots of other expenses will crop up, so if you can get something just as good for a less insane price tag, then it just makes sense to do so :)

FWIW - I have the Babyzen Yoyo. Second hand from FB. I absolutely love it.

That is an excellent point, we did indeed buy a car to get from A to B.

The pram FELT nice in the shop, I think some of the trim was leather Confused as if the baby will care!

Because you might push it through dog shit

Because someone put "dream" in the name of the product, making you think owning this thing is the stuff of dreams

Because if it is so fancy, it may get stolen from one of the types of places where they forbid you to bring buggies in and make you leave them outside

Because you won't need it for a gigantic amount of time, you may find a quick umbrella fold type buggy more convenient at some stage

Oh and your baby will vom on it. Get something easy to wash

Ooh also - chances are you may find you’ll need more than one pram. Most of my friends have more than one or have tried several before settling on an ideal one. £1000+ is a lot of money for something that may not be perfect for your usage and you’ll have to supplement with another / sell and get something else!

We have the Babyzen for around town and then a big sturdy off brand thing for off road. Considering getting a mountain buggy but the price…

Look on eBay

But that is a crazy price for what looks like an average buggy

Get one of their Kensington type ones, at least people will notice

Pram prices have got out of hand. Spend £500 on a cheaper pram and you’ll have nearly £1000 to invest on your baby’s behalf for their future. Make the most of the rising interest rates.

Because, in some way you never even considered, it won't be quite right and you'll end up buying about 5 until you find the perfect one (and that one will cost you £80 second hand).

Talking from experience here!

Fox 2 even cheaper than the 3! You can get it for £650 if you look hard enough

Because your baby will get vomit and shit on it along with wet soggy food. You will also most likely load it up with shopping and then chuck in and out of the car a hundred times.

You'll probably use it for 2 years max then switch to a light buggy.

If your baby is like mine they will hate the carrycot part and you will use it only a handful of times (we had to use a baby carrier until son was 6mths, he hated lying flat in pram).

A friend gave me the advice 'you'll never wish you had a bigger/heavier pram' and I totally agree. One woman in my antenatal group had a super expensive pram from John Lewis - forget which brand. She was the first of all of us to switch to a light buggy as it was so cumbersome and impossible to push with one hand.

Agree with PP to consider second hand and online retailers. I got a previous year's model of a pram for about a quarter of the price of the new model (the one I bought was brand new, just discontinued).

Baby won't care. No one else will care. But when they are 3 and you want them to do swim lessons you'll need the money then.

As others have said, you will need more than one pram. My little boy has just turned a year old but I have my main pram I got for him being born. I then very quickly realised it wasn’t that convenient having to squash that in the boot with shopping etc and was such a faff to have to fold down, carry to the car and squash in along with all the other baby stuff and the baby so I got a little compact buggy that now lives in the car full time and also comes on holiday with us (silver cross jet- love it)! I’ve also got a big running buggy that’s very light and far too easy to push so given the choice I end up taking this on dog walks rather than his original pram, which feels heavy in comparison. So that was us at three prams. It was his birthday recently and he got a trike with a pram handle on the back so that’s us up to 4 😂
I do love that silver cross pram and totally share your enthusiasm for it but I’d say just think first whether that’s the one you want to spend all your money on, if it is, go for it.

I had a Stokke and absolutely loved it. Perfect for my tall frame. Loved how high baby could go. Huge basket.

I did however get it at 1/4 price when Mothercare was closing 3 years ago. I would suggest look around at re-sellers. My Sister was also able to get one for £700 brand new.
