Ten year old pram - what do you think?

I’ve been offered a ten year old newborn Icandy pram.
It’s from my MIL - it was used for SIL baby only when at MIL house.
It’s practically brand new.
We have money set aside for a new pram but it seems silly when this one is here. I like it and we would obviously get a new mattress and possibly some new wheels.
I’m just a bit worried it’s so old that it’s bad to use an old one?
Any advice for a FTM? Xxx

Why would it be bad to use it? I have a 5 year age gap between my oldest and youngest. Used the pram until the youngest was 3. That’s 8 years of use and it never crossed my mind it would be a problem! Or, to be honest, that it would need new wheels.

I bought my pushchair from some random on Facebook and later discovered it was 10 years old- it's been fantastic. Only minor hiccup is some of the spare parts are no longer made. But if mil is offering it for free I'd suggest you jump at it! It can always be your "best spare" if you find you don't like it.

If it hasnt been used much surely the wheels are ok.

It should be fine as is as it's hardly been used.

Save your money as you may prefer to switch to smaller buggy when your DC is older like an umbrella fold maclaren

The wheels are a bit used looking so thought if new ones are available we will get but if not I’m not too fussed. I really like it tbh - I’ve tried a few in shops but this one just feels a good size / right. The second attachment - stroller bit has never been used at all.
I’m happy to take it and put the money towards something else. Just being a FTM I wasn’t sure that but was ok to use prams that were older.
I’m just being super cautious - but this has made me much more relaxed.

The wheels are a bit used looking

So will the new ones about 30 mins after you get outside! Don’t change them for the sake of it.

There are buggy cleaning companies out there that would give it a good going over for you, I'd probably do that and as you say with a new mattress you've got a really good pram for very little outlay!

Definitely worth it. Our pram was passed on by my aunt and was probably about 10 years old too at that point. If it feels a good size and shape to use then that's a bonus :)

I agree you'll probably end up with something else as well when they are older, though thinking about it the only other stroller I used was a lightweight umbrella stroller picked up second hand too.

Definitely save your money for something else!

Thank you all. I honestly really liked it and tbh - I know it’s good quality and everything else I have tried in shops seems big and clunky - it just feels right.
My MIL (who is wonderful) keeps things impeccable understands I may want a new one and theres no pressure but this one just feels like it was waiting for us to have this baby. That probably sounds daft but it just felt right.

Now to work out what to put the money towards ... family holiday maybe :) xxx

Which one is it?
I had a Cherry 10years ago. Was used constantly for five years, occasionally after that and then moved onto a dog charity to get the rescues used to prams. It was a workhorse.

Thank you - it’s pretty immaculate - my MIL keeps things so good and buys quality - so the things that have been passed on are lovely.
New mattress and we are sorted - it just feels right xxx

Definitely use it. You might decide later on you want a little compact pushchair for travelling etc and can spend buy that when needed

Why would it be bad?! I love my Icandy peach, they are very well made so won’t be an issue with it being older

I used a lovely second hand pushchair. Why spend hundreds if you are gifted one. Never really understood the fashion for the latest design.

Does it have a mattress or pad in it? If so, you might want to follow the rules for cot mattresses and replace. It's been so long since I went near a pram that I can't think what they have in th way of padding in the bottom 🤣

We were given my friend's pram. It had been used for three children, in two families who walk a lot. We've used it for both of our children, and hope to use it for more! That's maybe ten years of fairly heavy use.

It's structurally perfect. We could spend £100 to make it look like new, such as replacing the faded hood, but we dont see the point.

My NCT friends all spent £1000s on new things for their babies in the first few months. We spent maybe a few hundred, if that. And the vast majority of that was on a car seat. A few of them have struggled for money since, and having 3k in savings rather than shiny baby things would have helped them.

Use the pram!

I had a Cherry for my DS. They don't make them any more. It's a real pity. It's a great buggy. Light, huge basket, easy to manoeuvre.

The only downside is that it folds in 2 parts, but that didn't bother me. I walked everywhere and rarely needed to fold it.

If it's good condition, yes. I've wasted money on second hand prams that have broken after buying but if you're being given it and it's good condition, you may as well.
