i should be sensible & keep my old one shouldn't i?

Just taken my broken babystyle oyster back to retailer for repair.

I know i shouldn't have, but while i was there i perused all the shiny new prams & www.silvercrossbaby.com/pram-systems/wayfarer/raspberry/ this one caught my eye.

With my sensible hat on i know we should just pay the £75 to repair the oyster for new baby to use rather than buy something new (esp since we have already have carrycot & carseat to fit too).

BUT I never really 'loved' the oyster, the suspension is awful & poor ds got shaken around so much in it each time we went for a walk
I've always regretted buying it really.

This silver cross one looks pretty good quality & is lovely to push, apparently compact enough to fit on the boot of a yaris (i have an A1 & have to take a wheel off the oyster), & I've also just discovered they are bringing out adapters so would be compatible with our existing britax carseat. Despite the £500 price tag it is tempting me a lot.

Tell me I am being stupid & i should stick with the old one.
I know its the sensible thing to do but i am pregnant, hormonal & irrational, & this dc is going to get mostly hand-me-down's so wouldn't it be nice to have something just for him/her?

Why are you paying to have the Oyster repaired?

Is it old or did you do something to break it?

3 yrs old, way out of warranty. Frame is cracked & not thru misuse, which tbh i feel means its more of a 'not fit for purpose' scenario really. But due to its age not a lot i can do. Babystyle have quoted this as approx cot to repair, b

Babystyle have quoted this as approx cost to repair but it may come in at less, as my retailer is gonna try get them to contribute. Of course til they've seen it they won't offer anything.

A buggy is supposed to last more than three years... I'd have a look at the sale of goods act. The retailer is obliged to repair of replace it if it's not fit for purpose.

tethersend i've just checked out sale of goods act on Trading standards but can't quite see where this scenario fits in. All i can find is that if item is over 6 months old onus is on me to prove it was faulty at purchase.

We just noticed a crack near the hinge one day. No idea how it happened as its never been roughed about, only used on pavement for approx 12 months. from its location its almost like a stress crack from when you push down on the handle to get the front wheels up a kerb iyswim?

Since ds had almost outgrown it & it was also out of warranty, we just got a new stroller & put the broken buggy away & it was forgotten about. That was 2yrs ago & its only now we're expecting another i remembered about it.

Retailer has never seen this fault before so said it'd have to go back to manufacturer, who have said from the outset there will be a charge for repair. Maybe foolishly, i accepted that since its out of warranty, although i did request that my retailer try & negotiate a contribution from babystyle given the nature of the fault. I've been a total dumbass & didnt take any pics of it tho so how i will be able to contest any charges retrospectively idk.

Its crap all round but i guess the lesson to be learned is that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. There's a reason these pushchairs are cheaper!

twitchy u caught me out . I just wanted someone to tell me its ok lol! Just gotta persuade dh now.....

Hmm yeah, here is not the best place to ask whether you should get something else and there are a good few of us who will have a reflex answer of yes!

It's tooooo late for me to get a wayfarer but I would love one, the fold is oddly big but I love how neat it is open. Seems sturdy, decent wheels, all round suspension. They're still very new, someone did end up buying one who posted on here but I can't remember who it was.

How well do the oysters sell? Could you sell yours once fixed and put it towards a new one?

Re: selling oyster - that did occur to me! Its worth nothing as it is but fixed we may recoup something. Watched one on ebay same as ours but diff colour pack - sold for £100 for just the pushchair. We have carrycot too, plus original black hoods & parasol, so maybe we could recoup a little more?

I don't usually go for stereotypical boy/girl colours on prams, but i actually really like the raspberry wayfarer, its gorgeous. Though so is the purple, blue, green......

Worst thing I ever did coming on this topic. Within the space of 8mo (have 8mo twins) I've gone through 1 double (about to sell my current one) and about 2 single strollers and bought a quad stroller.

However I do love coming on here and nosy at people's stroller choices

Sometimes, I wish I was only having 1 baby then I'd had have so much stroller choice! Haha.

Buy the raspberry! It's gorgeous.

Gah my plan has been foiled.
No britax car seat adapters available for the wayfarer & no plans to make any at present (even tho they sell them for the Surf). Since we already have car seat + isofix base i don't want to have to switch that too.

I know i could lift baby out into pram & manage without full travel system, but i always hated to do that with ds as he'd instantly wake... & scream.

Boo! Am of anyone with a lovely shiny new pushchair!!

Just move the baby and buy the new pushchair! I will be very envious of you getting a Wayfarer. I am saving my pennies up for one!

Oh i wish!

Babystyle have surprisingly completely redeemed themselves in my eyes this morning! The oyster is fixed already (less than a week), they have completely replaced the handle, serviced it & due to the nature of the fault, retailer haggled them down to £25 which i was happy to pay given it was so far out of warranty.

Now comes the tough decision as to whether to keep it or sell it.

Looked at the wayfarer again today & it is really lovely, though would need to try it in the car boot as fold is bigger than oyster. My retailer is doing 15% off rrp atm too! mutters to self to keep sensible head on & at least wait for the 20wk scan...

The silver cross is rather lovely. I'd be tempted to sell the oyster now it's all fixed and get a new one!
