micralite twofold ... has anyone seen this?

I'm expecting number two in early may. I need to think how I'm going to transport a newborn and 3.5 year old. My son is getting better at walking, but still gets tired. He is very keen on a buggy board.

I'm not sure my rickety maclaren techno is upto the job. I had considered the Bjcm gt but I think the buggy board wouldn't work plus defo wouldn't work in recline mode. Has anyone seen the micralite twofold in the flesh? It could be the answer, but is also a unknown quantity. The release date seems to be on constant delay. Any other ideas would be welcome... I'm beginning to panic

Update from micralite this afternoon. It maybe of use to others.

Release date ... To be announced over next few weeks. Oliver's are telling me May.

Weight limit on buggyboard, tested to 20kg
Weight limit on 2nd seat, tested to 15kg

I don't think it would be worth me getting the 2nd seat, as my son must be getting near the limit.

If anyone is going to the Harrogate baby fair can they do a reccie? I want to know if it is anymore stable then other prams with buggy boards. I'm hoping it must be as the board is integral to the design.

I'm optimistic that it will be... we kinda thought we would see it last year though and it didn't appear so I'm holding in my optimism about its actual release so far!

There's a lot of us thinking it's going to be some kind of unicorn so high hopes abound.

Actually I'm not really among them though because although I think it looks great I also think it's going to be really long and will be taking my trusty tape measure to find out!

I'm also curious to if the 2nd seat has a hood. Could be a case of style over content?

I'm also wondering if the 2nd seat position gives too much temptation to wheel fiddlers?

And finally I'm wondering which carrycot it takes. The promo shots seems to show the air-flo.

Fingers crossed this is the holy grail of buggies.

I spoke to Micralite about the Twofold earlier. It seems like Parties and I will definitely get to see it at Harrogate. I am hoping that I can put my children in it if at all possible, but we will have to see. The photos I have seen makes the Twofold look great. I think, as you rightly point out, it is a double pushchair for a specific age gap, and more importantly for a child of a specific stage to go in the rear seat ie they wont nap but are under 15kgs. Thats similar to the Uppababy Rumble Seat (a tad higher weight) but I am most interested in that you then still have another stage to move onto ie buggy board stage. My eldest grew past 15kgs LONG ago....but we still could do with a double on rare occasions, and my hope is that the Twofold will fill that gap for us because I simply dont get on well with stroller boards.
Fingers crossed....it does sound like its on the way....but there have been so many delays, and still so many possible delays that it will arrive, when it arrives :)

This is good news. Two top reviewers on the case, brilliant.

There certainly is a gap in the market for this age bracket. Like everyone else in this position I don't want a full on double, but am nervous at the prospect of not having something to strap sir into when he is making a scene, tired or doing a runner.

If the Twofold doesn't past muster, I'll have to consider the mutsy evo (you suggested on a different thread). That or a single with sling for when tempers fray...shudder.

I'm sure I read somewhere in twofold stalking that the main seat only has 2 recline positions, if so that sounds a bit rubbish.

Anyway I have obsessed enough...good luck on your mission!

I am expecting the main seat to function in a similar way to the Micralite Super-lite Fastfold (MSLF) with its 2 positions. But TBH this should be fine for a 6 month old + because the seat on the MSLF has a tilt on it anyway - its a bucket type seat. I can't say its the seat I would always want my youngest in, but unless you walk miles and miles every day I would think it would be fine. I am having kittens about taking 2 out this weekend, and am trying to work out if I can stash the YoYo under another pushchair for those trying moments...but then that needs two of you to push one child each....

I have seen it, and I am in LOVE! Its fabulous!! sighs
Its a great concept, well executed, seems to be easy to use, you can flick out the buggy board whenever you need it and put it away just as quickly. Its great!!!

Oh Tiggy! I did a jig when I read your post. I'm on the cusp of a cart wheel now (not dignified at 33 weeks prego)... before I burst with excitement spill ....

  1. Was it sturdy?
  2. Was length an issue when the board was flipped?
  3. Did you manage to pin down the elusive launch date?
  4. How did the recline work out?
  5. Did you manage to put your kids in it for a test drive?

I have a buggy board for my gt double and it works fine, so I'm sure it'll work fine for a single. Maybe wrong x

Glad you are clear. June is hopefully the release date. The Twofold was the first pushchair to be put through the new safety testing so it took longer than hoped.
It was just so easy though to stop the Twofold, flip out the board, hop the child on and keep on going. Its very stable in tandem mode.
Basically if you have used the Micralite and get on with it, then you will love the Twofold.

I spoke to Micralite today to check the price, and they said that the Twofold will definitely be in the shops in early July.
Kiddicare are apparently stocking it, as are Precious Little Ones, Anklebiters and lots more.
I hadn't noticed before, but they are doing it in Ivory as well as the Orange. Sadly there's no all black though!

Thanks Tiggy. I hope the date doesn't slip, I've bought the carrycot in anticipation, had the baby just need the pram now. Having had the experience of carrying a three and a half year old home a number of times while pushing the trusty mac it can't come soon enough. I've pre-ordered from Olivers baby care. I agree about the all black. I opted for the orange, I was worried about ivory and grubby fingers.

grins I opted for the Ivory - I play safe too often and I had the off white Toro last year and amazingly it stayed clean! I did mention the Ivory colour when choosing and I was told that it washes clean well so thats a positive.
I was absolutely told it would be in shops in early July....believe me I have been mailing Micralite every month since I first saw the Twofold!! I think its such an amazing piece of design with great options! Sadly my eldest is really too old for the rear seat now (rising 5), but I am hoping we will have fun with the board, plus I really like the bag option - great hopefully for Christmas shopping or days on the beach!!! TBH I just want a better play because its ace!!!!!

Hey Tiggy ... What are your thoughts now? I received mine on Mon and I'm a little disappointed on the handling. I live in an area with many a steep camber, and I feel the twofold can't cope. I have had to ask my son to get off the buggy board on some stretches of our street, as I feel like I'm fighting to keep the twofold from tipping over. Maybe I need to adjust the handles. The design is really good but it hasn't bowled me over. I also ad to abandon a beach outing as the twofold couldn't cope with the pebbles in buggy board mode or single mode. I'm also wondering if the strap covering the basket can be removed as this limits the use of the basket. I'm hoping to be feeling the love by next week. I would be interested to hear how you are getting on.

I have been getting on fine but we havent done anything too challenging TBH. However it did have all the wheels on the floor where my Bugaboo Bee didn't...so thats a positive! I dont think I have quite got my handles adjusted correctly - I have had them mainly out to the side, but I was pushing one handed like this the other day. The basket access isnt as good as the other Micralites from what I can see, but I did manage to get a small rucksack through the front. I think TBH I havent had enough time to really comment. I need a good long outing! I am surprised about the beach because Micralites are known for being good to take on a beach.

I'm still having a few problems with this pram. My partner thinks there is a design fault with the adjustable handles in that the bolt needs to be just the right tightness in order for the handles to not move when in use but not too tight so that they can still be adjusted when the rings are pushed down. However, the bolts work loose under normal operation and to be blunt the design is somewhat wishfull thinking. Several times when I have gone to push down to get up the kerb the handles have swung down, leaving me with no leverage in the middle of the road. Not the best position to be in with a baby and very concerning. I am very disapointed and have had to resort to carrying an alan key with me for roadside repairs.

(this is my first mumsnet post)

We have this pram, after making the change from the bugaboo cameleon. The main reasons were weight and travel.

Pros: We find it very light, very easy to push, very easy to change from single to dual carry mode and great if you have in dual carry mode with the 40l carry bag. Replaces the need for a nappy bag/day bag if you only have one baby. Its extemely easy to fold down and stable in folded down position.

Cons: handlebars they aren't great, we are having the same issue as you saltyseacow. Stability (top heaviness) in single mode is not as good as in dual mode. Access to storage is unusual in that is front the front. Sun cover is average (we have a canopy added to ours for

That is good customer service. Are your handles fixed now? One of mine does it too which reminds me to find an allan key and tighten it. I agree that in single mode it doesn't feel as stable as in extended mode. But I think you buy the Twofold for the board / second seat, so I think you would put up with that for the benefits?

I haven't had the handlebar problem but I do find it quite hard to lock the seat down properly when I'm opening it and the second seat release doesn't work, pulling the ring has no effect, I have to tip the pushchair on it's side and push the clip open to wrestle it off.

Other than that I love it, DH loves it and DS1 thinks it's the bees knees when he's riding so we're keeping ours for the foreseeable.

I would tell Micralite about the seat. Mine pops off really easily. Glad you like it though.
