micralite twofold ... has anyone seen this?

I'm expecting number two in early may. I need to think how I'm going to transport a newborn and 3.5 year old. My son is getting better at walking, but still gets tired. He is very keen on a buggy board.

I'm not sure my rickety maclaren techno is upto the job. I had considered the Bjcm gt but I think the buggy board wouldn't work plus defo wouldn't work in recline mode. Has anyone seen the micralite twofold in the flesh? It could be the answer, but is also a unknown quantity. The release date seems to be on constant delay. Any other ideas would be welcome... I'm beginning to panic

Tiggywunkle yes my handlebars are absolutely spot on now. Since they were replaced at no cost and with the service guy coming to our house I am happy with the result. I will add to this that the standard handles -and I think this is perhaps where Saltyseacow maybe this is part of your issue - are made from heavy plastic. The replacement we got was metal and in this sense I am referring to the inside channel that locks th adjusted handlebar into place. I wonder if this is part of the issue...

As we take the twofold with us everywhere we use the 40l bag instead of nappy bag/day bag etc so a good period of any day we are in full mode. I am short, and I have never had an issue with reach in the full extend mode. Looking forward to one day hopefully needing the extra seat but for now appreciate the option of the 40l bag doubling up for shopping, swimming, nappys and so on.

Thanks for link to Easy X Rider Ihateparties - I didn't realise there was an actual Surf buggy board on the market! I am eyeing those up on ebay now... £75 new and seem to be going for half that second hand and scuffed.

saltyseacow shame that the twofold isn't living up to its promise to be the ultimate carriage for your two kids. That really irks me especially as I/we had such high hopes. Hope you can keep 4 month old in it for another two months - think safe and cocooned, rather than squished.

I may start a new thread for buggy ideas for my newborn and big sleepy toddler, so be prepared to ignore it. I do like it when he naps and we're out and I get time to be.

I find I have to quite often stow the buggy board to get up a kerb in carrycot/board mode.

Micralite have sent me a second handle set. Once again the handles have failed me in the middle of the road several times. Not fun asking a toddler to dismount while you try to guide him and newborn to safety.

I'm also cornering on 3 wheels where there is a steep camber involved.

Given my toddler is 15kg so under the 20kg board limit and my newborn is nowhere near 15kg for the front seat, I wonder what the future will hold.

By the time I received the buggy my 3 month old had nearly out grown the carrycot. He is now 4 months, and I can't see him lasting another two months in there. He is the 75th percentile. This kind of puts me back at square one.

I had my SIL saying "he'll have to walk" not getting how it's not just an aversion to walking: he conks out (not narcoleptic, but can almost sleep on his feet). My DB (the one she married) was apparently the same in so far as he wouldn't walk anywhere or would walk to the nearest bench, ahem, according to DM.

Am in a quandary indeed as the manufacturers only test up to 15kg.

Anyway, am most excited about having another baby - am all joyous today with hormones; I fear a crash!

Purchasing a buggy board and a sling and will look out for you and your Twofolds around town! Just not around nap time... x

Although there's no recline, DS1 sleeps nicely in the second seat and finds it very comfy. He's 2.11. and probably heavier than 15kg by now

I was about to answer your questions but noticed the "Need a double that could accommodate a large sleeping toddler". If your toddler sleeps then the Twofold is no good for them, as the only seat which reclines is the front one, and that gets stripped off to add on the carrycot or car seat.

I'm due to have my second mid-October and got excited by the twofold when first PG. Few Qs:
-Does it work well with the carry cot and extended board/second seat?
-Do they have any guarantees for a 16kg toddler in the second seat?
-Are fingers close to wheels?
-Is it worth it you guys?!

Need a double that could accommodate a large sleeping toddler. Any ideas beyond this one?

I got seduced by the newly-released Silver Cross Surf first time round so have form for going for the "new" one. The Surf handled well but wasn't a good buy really I hate to say. Will be using that with a buggy board I suppose unless have an influx of cash (unlikely).

I haven't had the handlebar problem but I do find it quite hard to lock the seat down properly when I'm opening it and the second seat release doesn't work, pulling the ring has no effect, I have to tip the pushchair on it's side and push the clip open to wrestle it off.

Other than that I love it, DH loves it and DS1 thinks it's the bees knees when he's riding so we're keeping ours for the foreseeable.

That is good customer service. Are your handles fixed now? One of mine does it too which reminds me to find an allan key and tighten it. I agree that in single mode it doesn't feel as stable as in extended mode. But I think you buy the Twofold for the board / second seat, so I think you would put up with that for the benefits?

We have this pram, after making the change from the bugaboo cameleon. The main reasons were weight and travel.

Pros: We find it very light, very easy to push, very easy to change from single to dual carry mode and great if you have in dual carry mode with the 40l carry bag. Replaces the need for a nappy bag/day bag if you only have one baby. Its extemely easy to fold down and stable in folded down position.

Cons: handlebars they aren't great, we are having the same issue as you saltyseacow. Stability (top heaviness) in single mode is not as good as in dual mode. Access to storage is unusual in that is front the front. Sun cover is average (we have a canopy added to ours for

I'm still having a few problems with this pram. My partner thinks there is a design fault with the adjustable handles in that the bolt needs to be just the right tightness in order for the handles to not move when in use but not too tight so that they can still be adjusted when the rings are pushed down. However, the bolts work loose under normal operation and to be blunt the design is somewhat wishfull thinking. Several times when I have gone to push down to get up the kerb the handles have swung down, leaving me with no leverage in the middle of the road. Not the best position to be in with a baby and very concerning. I am very disapointed and have had to resort to carrying an alan key with me for roadside repairs.

I have been getting on fine but we havent done anything too challenging TBH. However it did have all the wheels on the floor where my Bugaboo Bee didn't...so thats a positive! I dont think I have quite got my handles adjusted correctly - I have had them mainly out to the side, but I was pushing one handed like this the other day. The basket access isnt as good as the other Micralites from what I can see, but I did manage to get a small rucksack through the front. I think TBH I havent had enough time to really comment. I need a good long outing! I am surprised about the beach because Micralites are known for being good to take on a beach.

Hey Tiggy ... What are your thoughts now? I received mine on Mon and I'm a little disappointed on the handling. I live in an area with many a steep camber, and I feel the twofold can't cope. I have had to ask my son to get off the buggy board on some stretches of our street, as I feel like I'm fighting to keep the twofold from tipping over. Maybe I need to adjust the handles. The design is really good but it hasn't bowled me over. I also ad to abandon a beach outing as the twofold couldn't cope with the pebbles in buggy board mode or single mode. I'm also wondering if the strap covering the basket can be removed as this limits the use of the basket. I'm hoping to be feeling the love by next week. I would be interested to hear how you are getting on.

grins I opted for the Ivory - I play safe too often and I had the off white Toro last year and amazingly it stayed clean! I did mention the Ivory colour when choosing and I was told that it washes clean well so thats a positive.
I was absolutely told it would be in shops in early July....believe me I have been mailing Micralite every month since I first saw the Twofold!! I think its such an amazing piece of design with great options! Sadly my eldest is really too old for the rear seat now (rising 5), but I am hoping we will have fun with the board, plus I really like the bag option - great hopefully for Christmas shopping or days on the beach!!! TBH I just want a better play because its ace!!!!!

Thanks Tiggy. I hope the date doesn't slip, I've bought the carrycot in anticipation, had the baby just need the pram now. Having had the experience of carrying a three and a half year old home a number of times while pushing the trusty mac it can't come soon enough. I've pre-ordered from Olivers baby care. I agree about the all black. I opted for the orange, I was worried about ivory and grubby fingers.

I spoke to Micralite today to check the price, and they said that the Twofold will definitely be in the shops in early July.
Kiddicare are apparently stocking it, as are Precious Little Ones, Anklebiters and lots more.
I hadn't noticed before, but they are doing it in Ivory as well as the Orange. Sadly there's no all black though!

Glad you are clear. June is hopefully the release date. The Twofold was the first pushchair to be put through the new safety testing so it took longer than hoped.
It was just so easy though to stop the Twofold, flip out the board, hop the child on and keep on going. Its very stable in tandem mode.
Basically if you have used the Micralite and get on with it, then you will love the Twofold.
