ICandy Peach to Blossom - confused! What on earth do I need?!

RnB · 23/04/2012 06:29

I have the original iCandy Peach and my new baby is due in Sept so I want to convert it to a Blossom.

I am looking to have the seat unit on top and the maxicosi car seat at the bottom. I'm thinking that by the time the baby is out if the carseat (6 months) he/she will be able to go into the main sear unit, as dd (who will then be 2.9) should be walking most of the time. Or is that naive?

So 2 questions really: what do I need to convert to Blossom? I know I need some kind of adaptor kit and then lower maxi cosi adaptors. Do I need a new seat unit (upper unit??)

And do you think when the baby is 6 months and dd is 2.9 I should get another seat unit? (lower seat??). So effectively the current seat on my chassis will be redundant?

So confused!

You need the lower seat unit anyway to have is as a double even with the carseat as well as the adaptors, I think. I have the lot lot but have not used it yet as still pregnant. And the extra seat is quite dear (£190 ish) and the adaptor was about £30.

Thanks DialM (great name :))

Really?! Look at the picture here www.icandyworld.com/uk/en/products/peach_blossom

It looks like there is just the upper seat and the car seat. Or am I going mad?

oh sorry, do you mean the seat is the lower seat in that pic with the carseat? So in order to have it as a double I'd need to get the lower one anyway?

So if I was to have 2 seats then could I use my original seat as the 2nd one, or would I have to buy the 'upper' seat?

DialMforMummy · 23/04/2012 13:43

Thanks!
I think that the bit that makes it into a tandem only comes with the second seat. As in the converter comes with the second seat IYSWIM. Once you get that, you do not need to buy yet another seat to use it as a tandem with 2 seats.

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 23/04/2012 15:45

When bought new, the adapter bars and lower seat come together at £190. They can be bought seperately second hand but for not much cheaper usually. The lower carseat adapters are then another purchase. The upper seat stays as the upper seat in double mode.

When you say about using the carseat at the bottom, do you mean you have no plan to have a lower carrycot? If that's the case then you shouldn't be using the carseat for more than half an hour at a time up to around 2 months, and up to 2 hours at a time until about 6 months. I would buy a second hand carrycot, get a new mattress and then sell on afterwards so you'll barely lose any money on it. Unless of course, it'll just be used for very short trips.

RnB · 24/04/2012 13:28

Thanks DialM and Hypatia.

I didn't know that about car seats Shock. Have looked into getting the lower carrycot and I see that it can't be used as the main carrycot if you take the seat unit off - grrr. That's really annoying as I won't always have both children with me! So to use the chassis as a pram with a single carrycot and as a double with seat/carrycot means buying 2 carrycots and one lower seat - ridiculous!

I thought buying the Peach was a good idea - but looks like converting it to the Blossom is very expensive!

I found the main carrycot second hand on Gumtree in great condition and for a mere £50!
Have a look around, you might find it at a steal too!

RnB · 24/04/2012 13:39

Good idea DialM - I'm off the have a look...

Bear in mind as well that the new Peach Blossom kit is about to be released this summer and that has a carrycot that will go in all 3 positions however its not officially safety tested for use as a single as iCandy say its not the best carrycot for single use. There's loads of information on both the current and new Peach Blossoms here.

monkeypuzzeltree · 24/04/2012 21:26

As someone who is trying to buy a black jack converter kit for a baby due first week of july, all i can say is buy it now if you want it, am having a nightmare trying to get hold of a converter kit, may dump the whole lot at this rate. iCandy have really let people down with their supply problems - even john lewis are complaining about it, they can't get old stock and new stock is delayed. Grr

DialMforMummy · 24/04/2012 21:34

Indeed Monkey. John Lewis had none in stock and told me they expected them beg of May ( my DD). Went in the iCandy website and rang another stockist who had one in stock. Bought it there and then over the phone! Drove about 30 miles to get it!
So might be worthwhile ringing around.

monkeypuzzeltree · 24/04/2012 22:34

You're not wrong, am doing a ring around this week, not much luck so far though - even JL don't know what is going on, spoke to them this morning - they are now only selling the original converters as a special order, so they are not going to carry any stock in the future, is a nightmare..

Tiggywunkle · 24/04/2012 22:56

To be honest, I think right now its confusing, but I think it will become clearer. I know iCandy brought over a quantity of Black Magic singles. The rest of the colours were originally planned to follow suite very quickly after. But someone made the decision to stop production, and get the back log of Strawberry and other orders caught up. I was told that JL handed over some Strawberries in return for the new Black Magic peaches (JL have their own warehouse). It was interesting to hear that the old colours of Peaches are on their way, because I had been told June for those, so thats positive. I think its a matter of time that the old pushchairs filter back into shops and the new stuff begins to roll in. The stockists are honestly the best ones with information. They are constantly speaking to iCandy and to their reps. Just bear in mind when a shop ordered will affect when they get stock.

RnB · 25/04/2012 11:37

Just called my local stockist and they said they are having a complete nightmare with iCandy and they have had to cancel and refund loads of orders. Apparently iCandy said they would have new stock to them in March, but have now changed it to July. I can imagine many very unhappy people who have had their babies and have had to buy new buggies :(

She told me to try John Lewis.

Ouch, that sucks.

monkeypuzzeltree · 25/04/2012 13:07

JL told me this morning that they won't get any until July either and a local stockist has taken all iCandy off their floor as they are fed up with having to let customers down. Guess I'll just have to leave one child at home at a time Grin
Surely someone has a warehouse with one in!!

RnB · 25/04/2012 15:53

Oh man, this is a nightmare! I also called JL and was told the same thing. My 3 nearest stockists all sounded really annoyed with iCandy and said July at the earliest, but no guarantee.

My baby is due in sept - I'm glad I started this early...

OP posts:
LKbabyH · 28/04/2012 14:36

I got told by Bluewater JL today on the phone that they aren't even taking orders till end July.

:(
Will have to rethink now as baby 2 due at beginning Aug.. maybe it's worth waiting to see the reviews on the Babystyle Oyster max after all.

wilson82 · 03/03/2015 21:59

hi we have an icandy peach but cant get it to hold the toddler seat and the carrycot at the same time as the carry cot on the bottom wont fit if the toddler seat is on the top have i got it the right way round or does the carrycot have to be at top because that dont work either and our new baby is due anytime and a double is a must so is there any ideas or any adapters we could use to have the carrycot on bottom toddler seat on top or vice a versa?
thanks

Ihateparties · 03/03/2015 22:11

Which blossom adaptors do you have and is it the blossom carrycot you're trying to attach?

The main carrycot doesn't fit at all in double mode.

On the peach 1 and 2 the blossom carrycot fits in the lower position facing forwards.

I'm less clear on the peach 3 as there are different ways of putting the adaptors on for forward and parent facing and I don't know the details of that.

I think if it's set up parent facing the cot goes in the lower position at the front of the pushchair over the front wheels. If it's set up forward facing then same as the 1&2 forward facing, low position at the back.

wilson82 · 03/03/2015 22:22

we think its just the peach 1 but not 100% sure its icandy peach made 2009......we have 1 lower seat, 1 upper seat & a carrycot but we can have it as a single then the carrycot will fit or both the lower & upper seats will fit together as a double but really we need the carrycot and toddler seat as our new baby will be in carrycot and 18month old in toddler seat.

Ihateparties · 03/03/2015 22:26

If it's a peach 1 then you need a lower carrycot for that model, it's the only way it will work. Is your carrycot oval shaped or squared off at the foot end? The lower carrycot for the peach one is a slightly unusual shape, the main carrycot is a smooth oval shape.

wilson82 · 03/03/2015 22:28

THANKS for your help........Sits oval and smooth silver like material, so we have the wrong part and need the lower carrycot yes???? do you have any idea how much the lower 1 costs roughly

Ihateparties · 04/03/2015 09:57

Are your fabrics silver coloured.. Silver mint I think it's called? If it's silver mint it will be a peach 2 and you need a peach 2 blossom carrycot (which fits in single mode and twin mode).

The blossom carrycot for the peach 1 and 2 are different, have a look on ebay for prices. The peach 1 will have to be second hand, you might still get a new peach 2 cot if you prefer.

Colour might be the easiest way to tell which model you have, the Peach 1 was tomato, sweet pea and black magic, which was basically browny black. Peach 2 was black magic, berry Bon bon, Parma violet and silver mint.

Hayleykieran90 · 19/03/2015 09:52

Can anyone help me I bought the icandy peach 2 Berry bon Bon colour last May I have main carry cot and seat unit. I need to convert it to a double but done want to have to pay out for lower carry cot and seat unit when I already have one can my new born go in the main carry cot and 14 month go in the lower seat unit? If not it means selling my icandy witch I have Tryed but getting offers around £250 £300 when I payed £900 for it and would rather keep it for that price thanks x
