Uppababy vista and getting in the car boot? (Ford Focus) - advice please

Hi

after reading all the reviews on here I would really like to buy the Uppababy Vista but I don't live very close to any stockist and was hoping to get a 2nd hand one if possible. However, I have a year old Ford Focus (not c-max) and the dimensions of the pram (with wheels on) and boot - almost match...humm.... have got my fingers crossed that someone on mumsnet has a uppababy and has managed to fit it into a ford focus boot or can let me know the level of hassle involved in taking the wheels off every time.

Off to stare at boot dimensions again and hope they have grown.....

Lol re watching to see if your boot dimensions have grown! I am getting a new pushchair today and it's 3cms too big on paper for my car boot so I am crossing my fingers that it will fit somehow!
Just bear in mind pushchairs aren't cubes, so the handle is slimmer and may fit better than the wheel end, if that makes sense. Popping the Vista wheels on and off is easy. Also when it is folded, there is a fair bit of give in the frames ie it doesn't fold as flat as it could. I think this is to give the freestanding fold. So if you didn't lock the chassis after folding, I am sure it will go flatter. Also taking the seat off makes the Vista a little smaller. There are some folded photos here at the bottom of the first section which may show what I mean.

I am so glad I am not the only one doing this - my husband thinks I am slightly crazy not to see this as a non-starter. Hope it goes well for you later. Thanks for the photo's - you are right I just need to think about wiggle room and if the wheels are easy to get on and off, maybe it is just one of those things...starts to get hopeful :)

Can you get to stockist and try a Vista in your boot? At least that way you would know for sure. Don't worry about getting the carrycot in ( it does flatten down) but for 6 months I am sure that could go n the back seat or in the front? The Vista is certainly a great pushchair.

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 29/11/2011 12:53

Thanks Twinkle - as the stockists are quite some distance from me I did spend last night trying to come up with a "good day out" plan to make it worth the journey. Glad to hear you like the pram - I haven't actually seen one - the reviews seem really great - was going to go for a 2nd hand bugaboo but really want the vista now ;)

no don't get a bugaboo, i have a cam and a vista amoung others hiding round the house and the vista is far better in everyway

fairimum · 29/11/2011 15:08

i def got ours in my Mum's focus - but hers is only 6 months old - i did take the wheels off, but not if they needed to come off, just didn't want to have to fight with it! no sure if that helps!

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 29/11/2011 15:29

ohh presentsribbonsandmerrysanta - its that kind of message that has me thinking I could get a roof rack if it won't fit!! when I had my daughter 4 years ago and I really didn't give much thought to the pram, ended up hating it and selling it as soon as my daughter go happily go in a stroller - this time I am going to get it right and mumsnet is showing me the way!!

fairimum - I will be showing your message to my husband later, I have been hoping for a message like yours - just need to find out if focus' have changed their boot size recently

thanks you both so much for replying x

I sold a double pushchair to a couple with a tiny boot. The husband decided he'd buy a new car for his wife because he wanted the pushchair so much! Shock Just thought it was worth a mention.WinkGrin

aswellasyou · 29/11/2011 17:16

I actually think it wil fit though. I've never been bothered about taking wheels off pushchairs to get into boots, which I think is the worst you'll have to do.

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 29/11/2011 19:09

aswellasyou - hee hee - I'm not a natural shopper so finding buying a pram difficult enought - breaking out in a cold sweat at the thought of going round car dealerships!!! :)

I have a vista (it is awesome btw, what colour are you thinking?) and I have definitely made it fit in my Mum's 04 focus, on side with wheels off, I also used to have to take the wheels off in my old car and it's very easy.

Besides it is very easy to take on the bus ;)

fairimum · 29/11/2011 22:41

oooo and just remembered my mum's focus has a smaller than normal boot as it is hybrid one and a good chunk of the boot is taken up by the battery part! Taking the wheels off only takes a second (are a bit stiff to start with!) and it went in easily :)

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 22:54

if you get it from kiddicare.com at the moment, if you 'like' them on face book you get a code for 12% off, i did this and saved around £66 i think it was.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 30/11/2011 01:33

If it helps, my pushchair which was 3cms too long fits in great :) with room to spare!!! LOLOL

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 30/11/2011 10:49

farimum and the furryone - you have totally made my morning!!! Now I know I can get it in the boot, I can start enjoying starting to look at them on-line - I am hoping to get it 2nd hand (hoping there is a decent market) so I might be a bit limited in what is available colour-wise (all suggestions welcome - I don't know sex but am fairly relaxed about colours - tend to like bright red) baby not due to early April - so hoping that I have got lots of time to find the right one on-line ( or save up and buy new!)

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar - fab news - I am going to happily follow your optimistic lead and get looking :) LOL

I have red, it's a really nice shade Smile. Have also seen a couple of folks round here with a really nice dark blue one that wasn't out when I bought.

Not sure about secondhand Market they haven't been out in UK long so might not be that many around.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 01/12/2011 09:31

mine is red as well Smile i did see a green one that looked quite nice, the ones that have come up on ebay, are not far off the price of kiddicare.com with the discount off, and you would get the warrenty as well buying new, which all us pram addicts will tell you are worth their weight in gold Smile

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 01/12/2011 20:18

Ok - so for Christmas I have to wish for a red one and errr.... start saving to make my wish come true :) Thanks for the reality check - might have to get into the mindset of buying new (shudder....). :)

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 03/12/2011 05:46

@ktcaramel - lucky you - what colour did you go for ?

OP posts:
fairimum · 03/12/2011 10:09

the kiddicare 12% ended last week :( what colour have you ordered? We have the green and love it :) Really liked the blue too when we saw it in the shop!

Nanny01 · 03/12/2011 15:46

If any of you ladies can wait I would recommend going to the baby show. They have them in London and Manchester in the spring. We got ours there and got a good discount. I didn't get the accessory's so I am going back again to order them. I got the blue so I will probably get the silver footmuff as they don't have blue. Alos the 2012 version will have a couple of new things to like the black frame and orange fabrics. I think it will recline back further to which when used with the special seat insert will make it usable for a newborn. I didn't try the pushchair in the back of our c4 Grand Picasso ( 1 rear seat folded down) but it fits as long as you put the larger wheels in first. I think ours was delivered by Groovy style to but got ours discounted at the show. My dh loved the fact it was a male sales team which helped clinch the sale.

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 03/12/2011 21:07

Nanny01 - thanks for the advice - baby due early April, so might be too close. Going to have to hope Kiddicare have a good January sale.... have just signed up for the newsletters for all the stockists, just incase any of them do a decent discount - maybe if they are launching a new model - might be some ex-displays? :)
