maclaren quest or P&T smart

I have a P&T sport which i love but I will be travelling to Oz alone with DD in May (who will have just turned 1 at the time of the flight) and I don't think i can manage the Sport by myself plus baggage etc. Also i dont think it will fit into the rental car at the other end.

I have been looking at strollers and seem to have narrowed down the ones i like to the Maclaren Quest or the P&T smart stroller.

I love the look of the P&T smart but would be very interested to hear from anyone who has one as to how functional they are. DD would need to be able to sleep in it and i am not sure it reclines sufficiently to allow for that. Have been keeping an eye out for one in stores to have a test run but so far not seen one. Also, how easy are they to fold and unfold?

The Maclaren seems to be the popular choice for a lightweight umbrella style stroller. Seems fairly vanilla but the "sensible choice" if you know what i mean. I do have a soft spot for the Cath Kidston red spot version but not the budget unfortunately.

So, any thoughts or other suggestions? I should say i am 5"9 and DH is 6"1 so it would be good if whatever we buy is height adjustable.

Both are too low handled for you in my opinion...I have both, well sold Smart last week...I'm only 5'2" and they're the perfect height for me...The Smart is not really a buggy for regular sleeps as it barely reclines...Both are very easy to fold and unfold...For handle height i think a Ryder or Techno are your best bet.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 28/02/2011 22:55

NOT the quest! I'm 5"6 and the handles are just to short for me, i hate it!

And I reckon the P&T smart is the same height!!

Thanks ladies. Will check out the ryder and the techno.

id look into the baby jogger city mini or micro too,the fold is brilliant, very light and the recline is good enough for sleeps, its also a good height (im 5'7 Smile

SweetApril · 01/03/2011 10:09

Yes, Quest way too low-handled. Agree with Frigg, the BJCM (I have the mini) is fab, lovely high handles and the recline is much better for sleeping. I've posted twice on here in the last couple of days about travelling on a plane with it so I'll let you read those yourself in case people thing I'm a BJCM plane hopping weirdo.

B**r it's that lovely buggy again!!! My best friend from primary school lives in Perth, maybe she could post me one...In American Graco do the 'Flip it' buggy that's very similar...Can't import it over here though guess nothing against friends posting it though.

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 21:43

Flips quite heavy though. Suzie if you really want a combi, and are willing to pay Bee prices Grin I can point you in the direction of a company that imports them. The postage is included so you need to add 2.7% import then a further 20% vat to cover yourself for import duty, so you'd be looking at £300 -£400 depending on model. They also do Apricas too.

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 21:53

holy crapola...i have one of those combi's sat at my mums...my Dsis left it here when she went back to taiwan...its a bit rickety though...can i tighten bolts? is it really that good honeydragon

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 21:53

Thanks for that...I'll have a think about it as i've just bought a brand new Graco Citisport, though in comparison that cost pennies but i love them, which is why i'd love a Flip It...Guess the Flip is the size of a Metrosport rather than the Citisport if it's quite heavy...Citisport is 5kg.

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 21:55

Aprica's felt rickety too.

mosschops30 · 01/03/2011 21:57

I don't get the comments about the handles on the quest. I've just bought one of these because I wanted. Stroller that reclined for holidays.
I'm 5'7 and have no problems, it's lovely and comfy to push, best pushchair I've had

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 21:58

I had on when ds was wee and loved it. They are rickety but so light and small. Mine never died so I passed it on. Crap on rougher terrain and terrified of pavement cracks if you've got one with the diddy wheels , well I assume it was scared, it would just stop Grin.

But it was my favourite holiday / summer buggy as when suns in their eyes, flip the handle. When they want to walk, fold, fold again and carry. Mine only weighed 4k if that.

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 22:00

The Well Comfort is 4.2kg.

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 22:00

friggFRIGG you lucky person!!!

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 22:01

Envy at Frigg too

deffo keep it for hols / days out if nothing else

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 22:05

Aprica's were the brand of the '80's though weren't they, you had your Aprica and a shell suit....classy Grin.

The quest would be a better buy surely? I think you have to pay for the raincover etc with the smart, plus as its plastic you'd probably need a liner too which is extra, as babies get sweaty.

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 22:05

ooohhh,i had no idea...couldnt even figure out how to open the bloody thing today...tips?! Grin

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 22:10

It folds in 3, it umbrella folds then in again. catch should be in the middle

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 22:10

Think they're 3D fold like the Combi's you can buy over here...Bet there's a latch you need to open at the front where the swivel wheels are...Then it swings open to become flat, then push it apart to open it up and lock, like my Citisport does...Only that doesn't fold in on itself.

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 22:14

right, thanks,i'll give that a try tomorow.

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 22:16

PMSL!!!

Honeydragon · 01/03/2011 22:18

Something tells me from that last comment that your Mum wouldn't be that surprised if you did Grin

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 22:19
