Would you buy a flat with no bathtub?

I'm looking at a flat in good nick with a good layout, good kitchen, in a good building.

Bathroom renovated attractively, but owners took out the bath. No hand shower either. I usually shower, but I'm not sure about never being able to bathe.

Big city view on a high floor, but modernist, very ugly (imo) building very visible from all rooms.

The photo is what you would see if you were reading in bed.

Price is not cheap, but fair.

?

Would you buy a flat with no bathtub?

I wouldn't buy a place without a bath or without the ability to install a bath but what matters is you? What do you use the bath for? I use mine for loosening up muscles/tendons etc. and for relaxing in. If you don't mind losing the benefits of a bath then.not having one is fine although will deter a few buyers when it's time to sell.

Nah I’d want a bath put back in. I like a shower and only have baths occasionally but wouldn’t want to cut out the option entirely.

i don’t understand the view - is it a rail bridge or some metal cage on another building? That’s a bigger issue than the bath. There must be better options. Flats are a buyers’ market in most places so you shouldn’t have to settle. Imagine trying to sell it on with that view.

I haven't had a bath in this house and we've lived here over 25 years so wouldn't bother me but I'm not you so if you want a bath you either don't buy or budget for replacing.

SirChenjins · Yesterday 17:55

It wouldn't bother me now, but when the DC were little a bath was very important to us - it was part of our bedtime routine for a good many years. It may reduce the number of future buyers who are at the stage of thinking about having a family or raising young children.

Advocodo · Yesterday 18:05

Yes, yes and yes I would buy. Flat without a bath.

TheChosenTwo · Yesterday 18:13

I’d buy the flat if there was scope to put a bath back in. I have a shower every morning to wake me up and feel fresh for the day but I have a long soak in the evenings during the colder weather.
No one else in my house has a bath though.
The view is… well it’s a fairly banal city view. My view from the room I’m in now is the road outside my house and my front drive. Not exactly inspiring or picturesque! Your city view is what I’d expect if I was looking to buy property in a city. It’s not objectively a ‘nice view’ but you need to work out what’s important to you.

I can't bare a hotel room without a bath. I hate them. I'll tolerate them if I have to, but given the choice it's a bath every time.

A bath is one of those little things I'd really miss very quickly and I would not consider buying a house without one.

I could not buy a house without a bath....I don't like showers at all, they make me feel cold, whereas a bath is warm and cosy.
However, oddly enough, I never use a bath when in hotels, I shower all the time, probably because we go to hotter countries usually.

AlannaOfTrebond · Yesterday 18:17

I'd buy a city centre flat without a bath, but the lack of handheld shower head would put me off.

OneSnugBear · Yesterday 18:20

I loathe showers, so would never buy a property without a bath.

Overthebow · Yesterday 18:23

Personally I wouldn’t because I have young children so need a bath. I also wouldn’t like that view.

mauvenailvarnish · Yesterday 18:24

@pinkdelight I don’t understand the view - is it a rail bridge or some metal cage on another building? That’s a bigger issue than the bath.

It's the rooftop mechanical equipment of that modernist building - lift motor room, air handling units, etc. They've left it all exposed and visible. Since the flat I'm looking at is on a high floor, it's at the rooftop level of that building.

No bath would be a deal breaker for me, I looooove a bath in the evening.

SallyAnnDrivesACar · Yesterday 18:38

I wouldnt buy it because of the shower over a bath (I've done the same) but no hand shower - no. I've always used one and never the rain shower.

jay55 · Yesterday 18:38

I hate climbing into a bath to have a shower. So prefer a walk in shower to a bath.
Can always have a bath in a hotel.

Thanks for explaining. I guess someone has to look at it but I wouldn't choose to. I like an urban cityscape, but that's like permanent scaffolding level of grim.

TeddySpaghetti · Yesterday 18:52

One of the things (next to plastic grass) that will definitely put me off a house is a bathroom missing a bath and replaced with a massive walk in shower. Ugh.

Grasshopperhopping · Yesterday 18:55

If you do buy, you can buy a converter for the waterfall to allow a handheld shower so you wouldn’t need to break the tiles. Look on Amazon for options.

As others have said I’d be more put off by the view than the lack of bathtub

Yes I would…can’t remember the last time I had a bath (well over 30 years!)

Same here. Was at a hotel in Cornwall in 2015 and it was boring and I was so overheated afterwards realise I hate baths ! Showers are so uplifting to.me

BillieWiper · Yesterday 20:15

I'd just have it put back in. It's not a case of there's no space for one.

I feel I might be able to deal with no bath but it would be a massive minus. A lot of people say the opposite but I don't feel as clean from a cubicle/standing shower. I like soaking. Obviously I then shower using the handheld and scrub off so I'm not just covered in the dirty water. In other countries baths are extremely rare so if it wasn't in UK it'd be different.

LateNightOne · Yesterday 20:18

Yes. Haven't had a bath for 25 years. We are really fine without a bath.

Calling · Yesterday 20:34

The view of the ugly building might annoy you soon.

luckylavender · Yesterday 20:40

Yes it would bother me. Love a bath on a Sunday or if I feel under the weather.

EveryoneUsingOutro · Yesterday 20:53

I love a bath so it would put me off. I also like a hand held shower so I can shower without getting my hair wet ( I loathe shower caps) and thoroughly rinse my bits!

IzzyLeng · Yesterday 21:08

Is it Manchester? That building looks familiar.

anyway I’d love not having a bath. I’m about to redo my bathroom and ideally would prefer no bath. But realise that having a compromise of a small bath may be sensible. I want a larger shower which I can’t fit in with a normal size bath. But part of me thinks why am I going to add something I’m never going to use 🤷🏻‍♀️

Friend of mine has a fixed shower and I asked her about days when she doesn’t want to get her hair wet. She reckons it’s easy to tilt head to the side and keep hair dry. She doesn’t use a shower cap.
