What do you think of this bed? Decadent? Or daft?!

Am looking to buy what, I suspect, will be my last ever bed.

Just being realistic - mid 50s, the last bed I bought for myself was getting on for 30 years ago...it's just maths!

Anyway...single now, no kids...living in a nice rented flat in a Georgian property.

I like my bedroom being a cozy, dark, semi-decadent retreat; a nice boudoir...without the sleaziness, ofc.

So, with that said - what do people think of this bed? A bit too much? Or a fine indulgence?

Let me know thoughts/experience/alternatives please.

No one can answer this for you, but personally I think that's a lot too bit much.

I also don't like a soft headboard as they harbour dust and there's a risk they get marked.

Those corners are knee bruises waiting to happen.

And you have to assemble it yourself!

I wouldnt but I love it at the same time. Id love to stay in a hotel with the theme! totally suits what you have described your bedroom as!!

It is too much (for me) but it comes a time when you should be brave and do whatever the hell you please.

If this is not the time yet, wait until you are 45, such a liberating time when you stop giving a hoot about what others think 😉

I absolutely love it, but your knuckles will suffer when you are tucking the sheets in at the end, and those feet stick out a bit too far, maybe? I'd be stubbing my toes on them something chronic.

I love the frame for what you describe. Mattresses you really need to test as that’s the difference in your ultimate cosy comfort.

It's not as bad as I imagined, almost restrained in fact! But the price…. Wow.
But your money, your choice. If you love it buy it, it will bring you lots of pleasure.

@JandLandG , it’s not my cup of tea but I suspect you wouldn’t be into my very modern home. I can see it would fit beautifully into the scheme you describe in a lovely Georgian property.

We live in a Georgian cottage and have an eclectic interior that combines pieces from different architectural periods, but that is way too much gold/bling for me! However, if you love it @JandLandG then you should definitely have it 😁

On the one hand, William Morris - have nothing in your house that you don't know to be beautiful, or useful and, of course, a bed can be both. You spend a lot of time with your bed, so it needs to spark joy on every level

Have you seen this bed in real life?
What's the room like, architecturally and size wise?
What other furniture do you have in that room? because a bed like that is such a statement piece, it needs to be supporting by everything else around it - and that can be really expensive for bedside tables, dressing table etc. unless you're happy to upcycle - which leads me to

Have you considered a similar style but plain wood and gild it yourself?

I don't think matching bedside tables or dressing table would be a good style choice at all. A bed like this should be complemented rather than matched.

Erm…the op is mid-50s already! But you’re right, I think she should go for it. That is a lovely bed!

I personally wouldn't due to dust. Also I'm so clumsy, I'd be constantly face planting the end of it when I got up for a wee in the night! I like having a footboard to grope about for and hang off! But if you love it, you get it!

Yes, I've never understood why anyone would go for a soft headboard. I

t's going to get dirty and there's no way of cleaning it

I love it, but wouldnt buy a fabric headboard where the fabric is not removeable.

Even if its your own head on it, I hate the idea you cant clean it or wash it.

My heart sinks when I see fabric headboards in holiday accommodation.
